Getting back to the OP, this supposedly "doomed to mid-tier P5 status" program is now 5-1 and 1-0 in the ACC, after beating a 5-1 conference team on road.

Should be all the stats we need at this point. Thankfully, the 40-point loss only counts as one....
You're smearing the narratives I'm reading from too many fans...

We can readily explain a 40-point loss to a team with less talent in an empty arena. AND we're prepared to explain away a loss to a 1-5 team that has only beaten a Morehead State team a month ago.

If I'm not presenting that accurately, please summarize what you're reading.

I'll also withhold comments on how encouraging last nite's win was or should be, esp. against an unremarkable team missing its two leading scorers and rebounders...

You are too close to dispassionately look at the numbers. If Vegas thought we were falling off the cliff then the money would’ve fallen as well. Vegas odds were the most objective measure at the time the season ended.
Vegas odds are just an aggregation of fan sentiment, nothing more. In this case, the facts show it was likely wrong.

But it's nothing but hypothetical "evidence". I'll go with the facts...

I’m so glad this drivel isn’t on the premium board anymore lmao.

The sky is always falling in Zipp’s mind, but we were a top 25 team last week down 4 impact players while playing 2 freshmen who would redshirt at most programs of our caliber.

We lost all 5 starters from last season off of our best ACC finish and our coach and program supposedly sucks.

For those trying to go post for post with the master of these threads, just know, any chance at positivity went out the window when Tom Jurich was shown the door. Whether that was warranted or not can be debated, but the level of masochism from Zipp to continue following a program he hates is unprecedented.

21% is a high % and it's over 40 + years. You don't like that data. 2 seed pulls more Final Four Teams than the 3 & 4 seeds combined. It's a significant statistic.

Seeds 12-16 haver never made it. So hell, that's not much of a chance based on results.
All those stats "prove" is that the higher your seeding is, the better the chance you have to make a Final Four. It doesn't indicate how good your team really is, or how "strong" your chances are.

Those are extensions you're trying to make to argue how good our team was at season's end. A good team doesn't lose a majority of its games the last month to the likes of Georgia Tech and Clemson...

Last post for me before the lock. Zipp is getting his azz kicked. He'll call in his paid member status after some final BS thoughts and have the thread locked. And Tom still won't be our.... or any other universities AD.
A 'zipp' thread is waiting somewhere for you to contribute to...

And you lost by forty freaking points that could have been 50 had Wisky lacked a little mercy.

That has nothing to do with 'zipp'. I just watched the game until it got ugly enough to change the station...

It’s ONE game in an essential rebuild season. To be honest I’m impressed we’re 5-1.

You had half of the Louisville media saying we’d go 3-2 at best in the MTE.

Other than one horrible game, this team has overachieved.

I’ll rewrite this for you.

“The most objective data didn’t fit my narrative so I’ve tried to use verbal soup to defend my flailing argument. If I remain steadfast in my subpar position I hope that either the topic will change or that I’ll wear out these folks. Anyways, where can I fit a dig at Tyra into this thread because that’s my schtick?” - Zipp’s real thoughts

The team was still getting a 2 seed per final bracket drop. 21% of Final Four teams come from the 2 line in the history of the tournament since they started seeding in 1979.

Obviously, the 2nd most popular seed to reach the Final Four...
Since you're the two guys beating LAST year's drum the hardest, I'll personalize this admission... I didn't weigh hop's data well enough--in part because it wasn't anything I brought to the table.

A 21% probability for a two-seed making the Final Four is the total probability for ALL of the two seeds, not each one. If for discussion purposes we assume that each of the four two-seeds has the same probability of making the Final Four in a given year, it means EACH two-seed has a 21%/4 or 5% probability.

So "strong contender"--based on the 40 years of NCAA history that hop wanted me to consider--equates to 20-1 odds. There's a word for that on Derby Day... Long shot.

And before the 2012 NCAA tourney, how contented and philosophical were the fans? That's my point...
Hmmm, what other current factors might be considered when judging the relative importance fans - all fans, not just UofL ones - place on sports outcomes in 2020 versus previous years?

I wonder...
