SUN BOWL: LOUISVILLE VS WASHINGTON GAME THREAD

We sit here and watch these refs not throw flags for the entire game and then they throw one for pass interference.

How can anyone not agree we are cursed?

Shit just keeps happening over and over and over. It's the Twilight Zone.
We are not cursed. We belong to a conference that gets no national respect. That is why even when we are at home we don’t get the calls we deserve.

I have limited video and audio. Two plays before that last TD by Wash when the QB was diving for the end zone pile on….Why wasn’t that a fumble outside the end zone and Louisville ball??? Saw several replays and he clearly lost the ball before the goal line and it went out of the end zone. It appeared they were reviewing whether or not he scored a TD

They ruled he fumbled it on this side of the goal line. I didn't have an issue with that one,but that interference call in the endzone was 🤮🤮🤮

i saw it as the ball did not cross the goal line before going out of bounds. he fumbled at the 2" line. it didn't go out of the endzone inside the pylon and to me i saw it as it went out of bounds before crossing the goal line and was not inside the pylon so he simply fumbled.

and penalty in end zone was deserved, he had his hands all over his chest before fighting for the ball and ref watched it the whole way. it was obvious as receiver wasn't fighting back at time flag thrown.

They don’t call penalties all day and they call bullshit calls at the end that could affect the outcome of the game. Hats off to the defense who had to defend goal line stand for 8 plays
The unsportsmanlike were questionable at the least. I wish our guys would stop giving these clown refs a reason to throw the hanke, unlike the one in the endzone 🤡

That’s not what I saw. I saw two players with equal rights to the ball battling. It was a very bad call and almost changed the outcome of the game.

Even the announcers were calling out the bad calls and what was the unsportsmanlike penalty called on Louisville. They celebrated because they stopped the Washington TD? I mean holding, face mask and late hits out of bounds that they did not called were more deserving of a penalty.

There was definitely something going on with these officials. They weren't throwing any flags most of the game. It was unreal. I recorded the game so I watched the first half, and there were several blatant offensive holds on both teams not flagged.

The missed face masks. There were three that weren't called. On both teams. The bad officiating was pretty balanced, and not just hurting one team. Of course until the end of the game.

Will there ever be a time when Louisville football isn't constantly hampered by poor officiating?

We didn’t run him out of town. He wanted an extension he had not really earned. He took his act elsewhere.
WE wanted him gone because of his blind loyalty to staff.

WE don’t hire and fire, but WE gave him a world of shit about it, and nobody cried when HE left.

We knew Brohm cared little about defense when we begged him to come. I’m curious how long the love will last if these type games continue. We won’t win em all.

But 9 wins is 9 wins. Even if it should have been 11

This notion that Brohm cares little about defense is ridiculous. How could he expect championships if he didn't care about his defense?

It should be phrased as he cares more about offense than defense. He's a playcaller and that's what he was trained to be. He cares about his defense, he just relys on other coaches to implement a winning formula. It doesn't mean he doesn't care.

I mean what head coach out there controls both the offense and defense at the same level? There's offensive minded head coaches and there's defensive minded head coaches. Brohm is definitely the former, but it doesn't mean he cares little about the defense.

The pass interference call was horrible, and it was not even close. The CBS TV crew were 1st class knowledgeable ex-football players who accurately noted there was nothing to constitute pass interference, “hands on the receiver’s chest” has never qualified as pass interference until yeaterday!

Once again, Danielson was correct; the WSU fumble should have been called as “a touchback”, and possession should have gone over to UL. The official review and replay was initially focused on whether Williams was either out of bounds, as was the call on the field, or was it a TD. Once the replay was viewed repeatedly, clearly it confirmed that Williams lost control of the football, so it was no longer a question as to whether it was a TD, because video evidence confirmed it did not matter whether it crossed the pylon, as it was evident Williams did not have control of the football. At that point, it appears the official review elected to stop their further consideration and decided to rule the call on the field was correct. Anyone who witnessed what we saw on the multiple replays, could see the football went out of the end zone, which qualified as a touchback.

Danielson accurately pointed that out prior to seeing the replay. UL is not cursed, we are just a victim of poor officiating that occurs during a lot of college football teams, but does seem to be directed more to ACC teams than most.

We can be both cursed and a victim of poor officiating. It's true every team has suffered from poor officiating, but Louisville seems to be a victim far more often than others.

Just look at this season and the calls that pretty much led to Louisville's losses to ND, SMU and Miami. Two teams in the playoff who wouldn't be there if not for the blatant poor officiating in their games against Louisville.

And this has been going on for years. The curse is not new, it's on going. Just take yesterday's game against Washington. Once again the Cards had a two TD lead in the 4th quarter only to see a team rally with the help from some horrible officiating, including replay.

Is this mere coincidence or a plot against Louisville football, or is it a curse? It has to be one of these because it happens almost every big game the Cards play.

We Cards fans can cite several horrible calls and unlucky breaks for the past decade, but what almost happened yesterday would have been the most unbelievable bullshit of them all.

In a matter of just a few minutes, Louisville had a replay go against them that should have given them the ball, then to a horrible PI penalty that everyone saw and agreed was BS, to two unsportsmanlike 15 yard penalties against the Cards for celebrating stopping the 2 point conversion.

Two penalties. 30 yards! All Washington had to do now was get the on side kick and make a FG to win.

How many Cards fans believed Washington was going to get that on side kick? And just look how close it was, and how many times that ball bounced around before finally going out of bounds.

I've lived long enough to know that things like curses and jinxes are in the movies, but I've also seen plenty of stuff throughout my years that challenges the notion these things don't really exist. For whatever reason, the University of Louisville sports programs have more than their share of bad luck and unfortunate officiating. It never seems to stop. Remember the absolute ridiculous intentional foul called on Olivia Cochran in a post season lost last season? I could cite a dozen instances at least.

That kind of shit and what we saw yesterday is where curses come from. It's probably not real, but for UofL fans, it certainly looks real and I have had enough of it. I go into every big game thinking now what's going to happen to screw us this time.

When I was in college I use to bet on college and pro football. I had a friend that would bet on games with me. He asked me if I wanted to go in with him and pay $500.00 to buy a lock bet. I asked him what is a lock bet and he said it was inside information on who was going to win the game.

I told him no because I didn’t think it was true. He paid it and the lock bet was New Orleans would upset the New England Patriots. Before the game the Announcer was talking about how good a year Steve Grogan ( Patriots quarterback) was having. Grogan had not thrown an interception all year up to that point. He threw 4 interceptions in that game and New Orleans won.

The other game he paid for was college basketball involving no other than Memphis State. Memphis vs Detroit the coaches were Dana Kirk of Memphis and Dick Vitale was the coach of Detroit. Memphis was heavily favored but lost. It was later discovered that Dana Kirk was throwing ball games he was heavily in debt due to gambling. He owed Bud Davis and Avron Fogelman both well known businessmen in Memphis large amounts of money. Dana even threw the game in the Final Four.

When I see refereeing like I saw yesterday my first thought is the referee’s are being paid by gamblers to either shave points or to throw games.

It’s a conspiracy theory.

But I can absolutely believe it.

If not, why are there reviews in every game that you , me, the announcers, and all of America see one way, but somebody in New York sees different?

Money rules today. And football is BIG money.

Ok. Whatever.

I’m don’t care enough to elaborate, or worry, about it any longer.

I will simply say, he has very seldom had a defense at any of his stops. WKU had a little, But Purdue? Now us?

If you have a problem, you fix it.

Bottom line? 9 wins is very good. But it’s a bitter pill knowing it could be better.

Once again I find myself hoping.

Hoping these FCS defensive players we are signing are hungry to show what they can do and that they get the COACHING, and the LEADERSHIP to reach our goals.

If we had all of the impact players that opted out of the game, we would have run that weakass Husky team out of the stadium. Glad we won but it was hard to watch how bad our secondary was. As always GO CARDS!

I agree Brohm is more invested and interested in offense. He was a QB, and a OC. He definitely puts more of his energy and thought into the offensive side of the ball.

That doesn't mean he doesn't care about defense. He delegates that to other coaches, but part of being the head coach is he is accountable for the results.

He had a top 10 defense last season. I believe he cared because it was the defense that won the 10 games.

Charlie Strong was the opposite of Jeff Brohm. A defensive minded coach, but he had Teddy Bridgewater so he won a lot of games. Brohm wants a top 10 defense, he wants the defense to force turnovers because it gives the offense the ball and that is where Brohm lives.

So, it's not fair to say he doesn't care about defense because he's an offensive minded coach. You better believe he cares.

The calls seem to come at critical moments for the Cards; just when we are about to take over or win a game. They did all they could do to hand that game to Washington, but ultimately couldn’t.
