How do you know that he will never be good on defense? Nick Saban disagrees with you by the way. Elam has good athleticism for a NG but as an OT he would probably be a step slow laterally. He ran a 5.0 forty when he was 400 lbs and he is unusually flexible/agile for a guy his size. Matt has uncommon size and athleticism for a NG but he would probably be an average OT

If Big Matt was running a 5 second 40 carrying that baby fat , now that he's a physical beast I would put him in a foot race with Lamar Jackson.

The NG in a 3-4 defense isn't responsible for pressuring the QB. They are responsible for occupying 2 blockers and preventing the line from getting a push. He's supposed to push the offensive linemen back to interupt the play. Elam is supposed to free up the linebackers to make the plays. Any tackles that he gets are an added bonus. Even the best NG's in the game typically aren't putting up big stat lines because that's not their job

If he's doing his job, the other ten defenders must really suck. There's no way they will be better after losing Lewis and Forrest, they were far and away the best players on a very poor defense.

If you know the defense Big Matt did a great job last year. While everyone thought he was getting pancaked by the OL his job was to lay down at the line of scrimmage and clog the middle. This year Cash will be there to clean up the play.

It is a shame that he did not enroll in a real strength and conditioning program ..........this is unhealthy and can anyone imagine what he will look like when he leaves football?

This...unless he changes his diet and get serious he is facing serious health consequences later in life.
