Rather have Ohio State

After watching this first half,I'm certain that the Irish will be right in the thick of it late. They won't beat themselves...like what I'm watching now.

Weird game. Lots of weird stuff happening. Guys throwing a random punch 5 seconds after the play, O lineman coming out of left field after the whistle for yet another 15 yarder.

OSU's lack of discipline has killed two drives. Bad reflection on coaching staff.

OSU spent at a minimum 22 million dollars to reach the Finals. Miami just gave Carson Beck 4 BIG plus to relocate to South Beach for 9 months. Day makes 9.5 million dollars a year. College football is dead.

It's exactly why I like the Irish.
Oh gosh. If ND beats OSU then they are truly blessed. OSU is so much the better team and should win going away against the Irish.

We don't normally see a team of destiny in college football, but with the new 12 team playoff, it may just be the case. ND has been very fortunate to win the last two games which was the case on a few of their regular season wins, including the Louisville game.

Maybe the good Lord above is watching college football this season?

The game turned on two plays. In the fourth quarter Ohio State converted a 4th and 2 at the Texas 43. When they first lined up, Texas was confused and called a time out. They were still confused coming out of the TO, and the tOSU QB just ran at a bubble and got a big gain. They went on to score, 21-14. Texas then drives to the tOSU 1 yd line with a first goal and couldn’t get in. On 4th and goal from the 7, Evers is hit attempting to pass. The ball bounces right up to the tOSU player who hit him. He runs for a TD. the 4th and 2 and the 4th goal was the whole ball game.
I can’t help but watch these games, knowing how our game with ND went, and think we could play with these teams.

I'm already loving the expanded format. You just never know what might happen if you can get into the 12. Hell, nobody gave Arizona St any chance against Texas but if you watched Arizona St late in the season, you saw an improving team getting hot at the right time.

Maybe. I'll tell you if OSU pulls all that undisciplined crap they did last night, the Irish will take advantage of it.
Because the Irish are some great team or the Lord will strike down the undisciplined Buckeyes?

Sorry, but I can't stand ND and OSU may as well be Louisville in this game.

Yes,because the Lord will strike them down. Yes,that's certainly it.
You don't have to apologize. I could give 2 f___s.

My feelings exactly. I have never hated ND before and I really don't hate the institution or the incredible history. I don't like this team because they get every single break they need to beat teams that are better than them.

And that includes Louisville who is the antithesis of Notre Dame when it comes to good fortunes. Had Louisville won that game like it should have, the Irish wouldn't be in the playoff on the verge of becoming one of the least impressive champions ever.

Hopefully Louisville will get its chance in next seasons playoffs, and if they are half as fortunate as ND, maybe they will win one or more games.

I think ND in this new world is going to be a major player. Legit title contenders every year. ND didn’t or wasn’t aggressively cheating before NIL. You know they have a war chest of money. It is just a matter do they open the flood gates or limit it.

It is a brand, it is a football school and academically elite. They won’t churn their roster as much. Kids that go there aren’t only shooting for the NFL. They can actively recruit high school, transfers and grad transfers. They don’t play in a conference. Their schedule won’t be that tough but good enough.

It already started with media and coaches moaning about them not being in a conference. They all see it coming. Notre Dame may go on a run here.

Lot of “ifs” to go all around, as you could make an argument against a lot of the teams that made it into the playoff. I am no fan of the Irish, but I have said ever since we lost to them in South Bend, “they are a very good football team”, as they really have no obvious weaknesses. Riley Leonard is as difficult to defend as any QB in the country, as his decision making ability is underestimated, those multiple audibles were most effective against UGA and PSU.

A tale of 2 experiences

Growing up, if you lived in the 502 you def knew some Ohio State fans. They are the most arrogant fan base ever and I always root against them.

I moved into SEC country. Their fans are the most obnoxious, but for some reason they’re more fun and I really don’t root against their teams other than when I have reason. Like I hated Tim Tebow more than any team ever. I didn’t want Saban to win games.

They’re good academically. I would stop short of “elite”.

What was effective for ND was Georgia having to start the "greenest" of QB's and it was pretty effective for the Penn State cornerback falling down and leaving open the receiver he was defending all alone for the tying touchdown.

OSU smoked both IU and Penn State this season and didn't need good luck and favorable flags to do it. ND should lose this game by double digits. But, as we all know, the better team doesn't always win.

OSU beat PSU by 7 points. Both OSU and Notre Dame dominated IU.

You're right OSU didn't dominate Penn State even though they kind of did throughout the game. I think that's what I remembered, but the score was only seven points.

The early line I believe is OSU -8. I don't believe it will be that close.

In terms of P4 football I think they are pretty high on the list. Bottom line a player can get paid and take advantage of the ND education/alumni network that is pretty hard to beat. Dawson going to ND makes a ton of sense to me.

There just aren’t many schools in the country that have that kind of package.

Fair enough. ND is a great place to study and play.

If you hate a team like ND, there will be plenty of reasons to minimize their accomplishments. Virtually every college football analysts looks at the OSU roster and will concede they have the very best talent, on paper they are clearly superior to ND. However, they were favored over Michigan inside the “shoe”, but lost in a game that was as meaningful as any game OSU a will ever play.

ND is playing for the coveted NC, and along with OSU they have navigated the most difficult route that any two (2) college football teams have ever taken to get there.

Again, I am no fan of ND, and I will be pulling for the Buckeyes ….. but I am not going to be the least bit surprised if ND plays OSU tough to the end. Anyone who denies ND deserving of being in this situation is simply not being objective.

That may be so and I don't hate ND by the way. I never really cared much about them and certainly not for the reasons the true haters do. Yes, they should be in a conference but I agree they have the right not to.

My grievance is totally on this seasons team and nothing else. I agree they are a very good football team. You have to be to get this far, but they're also the most fortunate team, in my opinion. It's like they have a lucky charm. Lol

Truth is I've never forgiven the Football gods for the BS that led ND to beat Louisville, and as a longtime Cards fan I just would like to see some of that good fortune. We all remember the season before the Stanford game. Could of used some of that luck against ND, SMU and Miami.

Be that as it is, I still do believe OSU will win handily against the Irish, who will no doubt to the haters, be as applauded as much as the champion Buckeyes. But sports has had its share of surprising champions and if ND does win, they will definitely be one of the most surprising.

OSU 33
ND 20

What’s interesting is that under the old BCS system tOSU would never be in this position with 2 losses. I like the idea of ND winning because we played them nearly even and lost a close game. Frankly, I haven’t seen any teams in the playoffs that would have blown the Cards out.

Certainly a long shot,I agree with that. Isn't it possible though with the new format and the parity we've seen this season, maybe not totally shocking.
I grew up in a Catholic household when the Irish were on top of the world with Parseghian running the show. My Dad was a big Notre Dame fan and me and my brother by default. Dad grew up in Portland, went to St X downtown and likely started following the Irish when Hornung shunned UK and Bear Bryant by choosing Notre Dame.

I wanna see this one for my Dad,that's really it. Tough match-up for sure. They'll have to make something crazy happen on defense or special teams.
Notre Dame 26-24

Well if it's for your old man, I'm pulling for the fighting Irish. Good luck! (Even though ND already has it)
