Random Thoughts About Next Years Team.

I also heard Pitino's interview (with Terry Meiners after his 55 and over Rec League debut. LoL!). I never heard Pitino or Meiners mention Alstork at all. I THOUGHT I understood Pitino to say that if Adel returns (which he said he puts at 99%) that we would probably not use the scholarship. I thought that was odd considering what little I had heard about Alstork visiting and considering UofL. Perhaps I misunderstood what was being said or implied.

Per "another" UofL site. Makes you wonder why Alstork would even visit, unless Adel leaves. Odd.

Despite all the offseason talk surrounding potential roster additions and “contingency plans” for Donovan Mitchell leaving, Rick Pitino says it looks like Louisville won’t be adding any more new faces for 2017-18.

In an interview with Terry Meiners on 840-WHAS on Tuesday, Pitino stated that despite having one scholarship available, the current plan is to hang onto it. Unless rising junior Deng Adel chooses to follow the lead of Mitchell and Jaylen Johnson and keep his name in the draft.

“If Deng comes back, which I’m 99 percent sure he is, I probably won’t use it,” Pitino said. “We’ve got enough. We’ve got two really good walk-ons coming in that can help us in practice. We’ve got a young man from Manual, Dwayne Sutton, that can help us. So we’ve got enough players to compete. I’m very bullish on the basketball team because we’re very, very athletic.”

Sutton, who came to Louisville as a walk-on and sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules, was awarded a scholarship earlier this week.

Still, the moves of Mitchell — which Pitino said he “expected” — and Johnson have left U of L with the possibility to add one more player for next season. The most likely target has seemed for weeks to be Wright State transfer Mark Alstork, who has previously said that he plans to take an official visit to Louisville on May 17.

Makes you wonder.....this team needs a quality SG (in my opinion Darius Perry is the closest thing we have to a SG on this entire roster), needs outside shooting help, a great FT shooter, and needs help replacing 3 of the top 4 rebounders.

I am very skeptical of this current roster but hopefully Rick can mold them into a decent squad by March.

Darius Perry is a PG. when he is in you might see Snider play the 2. If Adel comes back, he will play the 2 allowing King and Sutton to play the 3. You also have McMahon who could play either 1 or 2.

Right, my statement was basically me saying this roster doesn't have a SG. Adel, King and Sutton are all much better suited to play the SF spots and I'm not sure McMahon will ever be more than a spot player here and there.

Personally I can see Rick keeping this scholarship open because the NCAA still has to hand down their punishment and he knows he might lose a scholarship anyway. Therefore he would rather sacrifice a scholarship now...when the recruiting cycle is over than risk losing it next year where his class has momentum and he has a decent shot at landing a kid like Langford who could bring other elite kids with him. UL will lose Anas, Q and Adel and is likely to lose King and potentially Ray so he will need to bring in an elite class in 2018.
