Yeah remember when Southern Miss was really good and our game with them was called the Black & Blue game from all the hard hitting defense.
My reference was to U of L athletics from which Satterfield would still be drawing a $300K monthly paycheck.
You're right, no one else was beating a drum to keep him here...
My only up close encounter with Southern Miss fans was the year we finally beat them for the very 1st time in Hattiesburg at The Rock on 11/4/2000.
At home games I am typically on the opposite side of the field from visitors.
They were the nicest bunch I had ever met inviting us to tailgate with them before and even after the game.
They gave us a great restaurant recommendation for Mississippi catfish, I recall too! It's been a while since I've been down that way. Hmmmm.
They were not kind in my experience after "Mills Kills". Could have just been a bad batch though.
All the more reason to celebrate Josh Heird’s master plan of not extending his contract, which for all intents and purposes - nudged him out the door and into UC’s unsuspecting hands. And they paid UofL for the privilege - which I’m sure has been - or will be - a data point in one of your super important graphs! 😀
That's the horse $hit that I'm fine stepping around while waiting for you (and others) to start blaming Heird for this men's basketball debacle. How soon does that start?...
If you were an honest broker about any of these situations, I would remind you that the atmosphere surrounding the Payne hiring was unlike almost any other.
The guy received the “highest recommendation” from both of the HC where he worked in both college and, the NBA. Throw into the mix all of the Crum era personnel, other assorted alumni connected with the program and some of the city’s movers and shakers all making it known that they felt that the former UofL star was the right choice.
But of course, you’re not an honest broker, so all of that logic is wasted on you.
That said, Heird is IMO on the clock with respects to Payne. If he shows dramatic improvement this year, then give him a third. If it’s more of the same, he needs to be nudged out the door like satterfield was.
What is going to constitute marked improvement 12 wins, 20 wins, etc.? I want us to be back in the top 5, but he has set the bar pretty low.

What boat did you want rocked? Fall sports are going pretty f’ing well in case you haven’t been paying attention. Bball is a mess and I’d expect him to handle that.

Actually - You made a statement about Heird’s leadership and ability and I asked you on what basis you stake that claim?
Is it just your opinion? Intuition? Something else?
What is his vision for athletics? Shouldn't we know by now. He's been here long enough.
To me it seems like it's "OK" is good enough.....Not far off from his statement about scheduling. He's just meh and not fighting hard enough for #1 (UofL).
He'd rather get along than take a stand.

Taking a stand for the sake of taking a stand is, in a word - stupid. And immature. And in many cases - unproductive. The reality is - you have literally no idea how hard he fought.

Would you have felt better if Heird would have come out hard after the fact against the ACC and criticized their decisions? After you were done feeling good - do you think that would have changed anything?
Allowing myself nothing more than speculation, I mostly agree with your assessment of Heird, at least on the subject of Payne. Truth be told, I don't know him nearly well enough to trust my own speculation.
It's also my opinion that Heird in all likelihood had little to do with the hiring of Brohm or Payne, and he shouldn't get all the blame or credit for either coach. But I'm determined to hold people's feet the fire over Payne if they want to credit Heird for Brohm being here. It cuts both ways...
The buck has to stop somewhere and that should be with the guy in charge....good or bad.

The satterfield / Payne situations are currently completely different. If Heird allows Payne to continue to be employed if the results don’t improve dramatically, then criticism would be warranted.
You don't hear a fraction of the Payne negativity from me--and what should rightfully be the fallout for Heird--that you hear from the average basketball fan in this space. That assumes you're not engaging in selective hearing...

You know the one where the law officer reminds all those melting down that its only the first play of the first game that has motivated their meltdown behavior and attitudes? I LoL everytime I see that commercial.
Especially the guy that after hearing this realizes that he just set all his prized stuff on fire only 1 minute before the guy reminds all of them about what is what. Are their any similarities here? Asking for a friend.

Ummm, I hear plenty of negativity and criticism of the current state of the men’s basketball program from this space, as well as in ordinary conversations. What I don’t hear - thus far - is anyone (save you) laying the blame at Heird’s feet.
Nor should they - especially when given the nearly universal call (from those who get listened to) for Payne’s hiring. Now, should Heird let the situation linger in mediocrity or worse? Then it’s on him.
I don’t remember your strong stance against Jurich when he hired and retained kragthorpe despite abysmal results. Or, when he continued to retain pitino despite his many instances of embarrassing UofL. Perhaps your scrutiny is selective?
That's because you weren't paying attention. Why would I not hold Jurich accountable for K-rag when Jurich blamed himself?
In one thread tonite, I already said that I don't really hold a greenhorn AD accountable for hiring Payne--as long as no one is also trying to give Heird credit for any part of Brohm being here.
An AD-in-training didn't manage either hire IMO. But I'll have the debate in its entirety either way...

I prefer to trust in positive intentions. If I didnt believe it, it would be ME (or you in this case) finding evidence, not the other way around before accusing anyone.
.Saturday was a great day. For me personally it was all about that firm handling of Duke, a media darling who got completely shut down by that energetic defense in the 502!
I don't take any satisfaction in Cincy's baptism to the B12 but it can't be denied they are off to a pile of dog sh!t start there, and in sports it's never easy to turn it around once a HC loses a fanbase. I'm not rooting against the former UofL HC but he's not doing much to make anyone miss him if they are a UofL fan. Combine that with JB already putting 2 real nice wins into the holster in year one, and it feels goooood.
Where was this UofL team predicted to finish in the ACC? Was it 8th? Let's see if these guys can keep proving the haters wrong.

Believing me doesn't matter in this instance. I can hold Jurich accountable for K-rag--which I do--whether or not he held himself accountable.
Jurich was the best AD in the land, but he wasn't God. K-rag was one of his few, costly mistakes. And I hope it's therapeutic for you reading that...

University administrators are judged not only by who they hire but who they fire. Miles Brant as IU president fired the most popular coach in Indiana and went on to a job with the NCAA. Tom didn’t fire Rick and went on to not being a top college sports administrator or university employee. Simple as.
As for me, if they fire Josh, I’ll flip my sports harder sign over and paint “ We Want Josh” on it. Then march around the campus until it’s time to go get a Heineken and some wings at Spring Street.
