We can point to the offense as the problem at tines but overall the offense is good enough to win. It is also a good offense to recruit to. The ACC is not going to have a bunch of team with great defenses. Louisville will be able to put up points and has. The only way for Louisville become a player in ACC under Satterfield is improving the defense.
Takes time to build a defense.
1) Dline have to recruit better on the line. This could be a tough call for Satterfield but this is the most important position coach on the defense. It is not good enough today talent wise. Need to adjust if not go find someone that can bring in dudes.
2) Teaching your scheme. They most damning thing you can say about a staff is the players don’t execute the scheme. This group has no clue on how to play zone in year 3. The Virginia game really exposed them. Multiple times players were out of position which their QB took advantage of. You can win games with lesser talent as long as they execute your scheme.
3) Offensively Satterfield has to understand what he has on defense. He has to plan and coach to his defense. You can’t leave it to this defense to win a game. The offense has to win the games. That may not always be the case.
The development of the defense will ultimately determine his future. It starts with with BC and the rest of the season. All average offenses and that don’t run a bunch of plays.
