For anyone wanting to discuss the rest of the NCAA Tournament.

Clemson getting boat raced by McNeese St. right now.

Of course they are, they're the last pick I need on my parlay that would pay $150. This is the reason parlays drive betters crazy. One game simply makes no sense.

Cal vs Pitino
Must see TV. It was kinda weird watching Pitino stalking the sidelines last night, ready to choke somebody out😂
I'll definitely be watching these two knuckleheads go at it tomorrow.

Cal/Pitino will be fun. My brethren have decided RP is the greatest coach and a swell guy.....lol....so I guess 4 or 5 years is where emotional memory evaporates.
Drake looked MIGHTY good...winning 31 games is a great feat no matter your conference.
Gonzaga shows that yes they are way underseeded and Georgia shows nope they ain't quite there.
McNeese State has its first ever win. Kansas and Self lose their first ever first round game.
Kansas plays JUST at the level point shaving can be considered and Calipari fails to choke completely.
Auburn plays like talented psychos and advances. Houston looks scary good. St John's defense is nasty, nasty.

Day 2 setting up. On with the show.

It will be interesting to see the makeup of the teams that advance in the tournament. What is the mix of portal vs returning vs impact freshmen. I have always been of the opinion that you can't win it all with freshmen/younger players being the base of your team. Too much pressure. Maybe that applies to having to many portal players, they have talent but lack tournament experience. However it shakes out it sure is nice to be able to enjoy watching the tournament again. The previous two years really soured me on basketball, but we are back baby!

Gonzaga has played very well the last month. It wouldn't shock me to see them advance pretty far in this thing.

Drake plays a version of that Virginia basketball that drives us and other teams crazy, controlling the tempo. They're legitimate, especially if they get the lead.

As good as the $ec was,the committee went too far with 14 teams. Color me shocked on that.🙄

Round two ready to get underway soon. Who are yall's upset specials today? Hell,I need a winner $$$😅

Bill Oliver:
Did you happen to watch the Kansas/Arkansas game? It was evident that Self is clueless, and that Dickerson (7'2") played more like he was 5'2" while playing the worst game of his extended college basketball career.

Self took finally took Dickerson out when the Jayhawks fell behind by 10 midway in the 2nd half, but inexplicably put him back in after Kansas had not only whittled away the deficit, but went up by 3 and had possession of the ball.

Over the balance of the game, Dickerson was involved (if not directly responsible) for 7 unsuccessful offensive possessions that resulted in the 3 point Kansas lead, evaporating into a 7 point loss. Not sure if anyone asked Self in post game about his decision to bring Dickerson back in, but it did not escape the attention of the TV analyst in real time.

I am sure everyone thought that Bill Self and Kansas hit the lottery when Dickerson arrived at Kansas, as he was clearly the best big man transfer that anyone would have imagined, and yet Kansas lost a first round NCAA game as much a result of his 4 turnovers, 4 fouls and 4-13 shooting exhibition. Conversely a 6'11" Aidoo scored 22 points and committed only 1 turnover in 39 minutes for Arkansas; this from a guy who was averaging under 7 points a game coming into the contest, but humiliated Dickerson.

The moral of the story here is that some of these portal transfers can be over-rated and others can be under-rated.

Plenty of folks associating Dickinson and point shaving. I kinda think it was he just wasn't as advertised. The SEC got in 6, maybe 7 teams more than they should have.
Kentucky is officially a MASH unit...wouldn't surprise if Illinois advances. St John just couldn't shoot. Florida looks beatable against UCONN. Auburn needs a psychiatrist.
Some good catchup today. Let it rip.

Bill Oliver: I had shared my thoughts about Dickerson, and Shelf in a previous thread, one where my focus was on why Shelf let Dickerson return to the floor given the bizarre performance he exhibited, but mostly after witnessing how Kansas erased the 10 point deficit and went up by three with Dickerson on the bench.

I did not think at the time about point shaving, but can appreciate how a Jay Hawk fan would question that possibility.

Ky is the underdog in this one. They might score 200 points total.

Dude for UCONN flat footed on those missed free throws. Clayton Jr. saving the day for Florida

No 3 peat for UConn though they gave Florida all they wanted. Yeah those two missed FT rebounds and that huge 3 by Clayton killed them.

The one UConn defensive rebound on one of the UF missed FTs, that was tapped out to UF, was clearly “an over the back foul” that was not called; which was one of several late calls that explains Hurley’s reaction. Not sure it would have changed the outcome, but it was a significant no call that resulted in a loss of possession. The game was so physical that I am not sure anyone could keep up with the action, but there were 3 other calls that appeared to benefit Florida at UConn’s expense.

Got to give UF credit for hitting some huge shots when it counted.

Sweet 16 Conference Count

5 SEC Teams in (Alabama & Ole Miss still in play)
3 B12 teams (Iowa State & Arizona Still in play)
2 B10 teams in (Mich State, Maryland, & Oregon still in play)
1 ACC team
0 Mid-Majors (St. Mary's & Colorado State still in play)

March Madness looking like how the bids were distributed. The main 3 leagues dominating, Duke as the ACC represenative, and Colorado State as of now as the only cinderella.

I swear, the thought of “is Dickenson throwing the game” crossed my mind .

Looks to be more and more like this in the future. Top few conferences dominate and gap widens significantly to next tier.

Yeah,NIL $$$ stacking the odds in favor of the bigger markets…err, bigger conferences.

Parity lives in the P5 but mid majors are merely a minor league now, where guys really go to raise their value. Just my 2

Looks like I was wrong about the SEC having too many slots. 7 in the sweet 16.

Honestly though I didn't think Texas, Oklahoma should have had invites. I'm as surprised as anyone Arkansas and Ol Miss made it. Pleasantly pleased by Kentucky.
Was pretty sure Auburn, Alabama and Florida would ve there...and this is Tennessees third trip in a row.

Duke right now seems to be an overwhelming favorite to win it all. ( not happy but is what is.)

Glad to see the insanity of Hurley out.
Michigan and Michigan State looking pretty good right now.

Gonna be some really good basketball Thursday and Friday.

Duke is the favorite IMO. Playing really good basketball and are more talented than anyone.

But it isn’t a year where a favorite can run through because Auburn, Alabama, Houston, and Florida all have teams that are title contenders and all survived.

And even the undercard of teams with Michigan, Tennessee, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Ole Miss and BYU all have strong teams that can pull upsets.

UK stepped up against the Illini; good combination by playing solid defense and hitting the perimeter shots when it counted. Amazing that after beating the Vols twice, the Cats are still underdogs in this 3rd contest.

In all fairness, the SEC having 7 teams surviving out of the original 14 is not so surprising when considering the seeding advantage they enjoyed. Of the remaining 7 teams, it should be noted that 5 received seedings of 1, 2 or 3. Conversely, out of the BIG 10 teams, the 4 survivors, only Michigan State received the coveted 2 seed.

While I would never suggest the BIG 10, BIG12 or any other conference would deserve 14 bids, it is a fair question as to how others conferences might compare if they too enjoyed 14 invitations, along with the huge benefit of low seeds? I honestly believe this selection and seeding process is akin to “a self-fulfilling prophecy”.

Arkansas is the most deserving of all SEC entries, as their 10 seed resulted in some very tough matchups, of which they prevailed. In contrast, Ole Miss was the most fortunate to matchup with an undeserving UNC team, followed by an ISU team that was playing without its best player.

Likely one of UofKs better games recently. They'll have to duplicate it to knock off the Vols for the 3rd time.
Duke has so many weapons.
Florida has Clayton Jr.
Houston is a team flying under the 1 seed radar.
Michigan on a roll. Yeah, it's gonna be some great basketball Thursday and Friday

So unless I’m missing something, this means a strong possibility of 2 and maybe 3 from one conference in the FF, leading to a sec/ BIG final?

That sounds exciting.

If it's like Duke, Florida, Auburn, and Houston as a chalk #1 seed FF, then it'll be exciting to me in all honesty. Great coaches, great talent, and great teams. I personally don't care about the conference labels.

The SEC has benefits greatly from having key veterans return while adding legit guys from the portal. I think the SEC will have a transition year in 2026. They still have great coaches but more reliant on portal to rebuild their rosters. On the flip side the ACC almost all the rosters were flipped. Clemson-Wake returned the most. Still not sure what happened with Wake.

This weekend will be a good one. UK is a matchup nightmare for UT. They haven’t been able to shut UK down and their offense can disappear against UK. Really interesting to see.
