Nate Ament update

He's going to Duke. I guarantee it. Idrc though, the dude may be talented...but he is a bean pole. I would rather have an experienced wing or big that has muscle.

Cal probably wrote a check to the Arky NIL fund himself to make it happen.

Could it be he's waiting until Duke's season ends? Duke right now is not dwelling as much on next year's roster as they try to win a national championship. Maybe Ament is waiting to see who comes back to Duke?

I believe he’s announcing tomorrow.

If he goes to Duke he will face more competition for playing time then he will by going to Louisville at this point. If he is as good as he is projected to be playing time is crucial because he won’t be in college very long. I would think he will be in college 1 or 2 years at the most so the opportunity to display his talent is important. I don’t care if Boozer or anybody else is in his ear his decision is going to based on money. At this point he has no loyalty to any of the schools recruiting him.
SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

In other news, Cedric Henderson announces his regret in having signed with UGA. My apologies for the sarcasm, but this exchange is so reminiscent of the recruiting battle that Denny and Hugh Durham had back in the day.

I have no idea who Ament chooses, but I am most encouraged that UL has moved so far up in such a short time period, to a point where we are a serious candidate for a much heralded 5 Star HS recruit.

As for me personally, give me a few more Adrian Wooly level transfers and I will be happy.

Nate Ament tells ESPN that he is postponing his decision.

“I’m just not 100% yet; I want to take some extra time to be completely confident in my choice. I will connect with the people in my circle and will also be interested to see some transfer portal moves now that the tournament is coming to a close.”

He is the No. 4 prospect in theclass of 2025 and is deciding between Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee.

They clearly need another athletic wing. I haven’t seen them listed with any guys at the wing. More than likely that is due to the possibility of Ament. When I start seeing wings set up zoom calls and visits that is the day Ament is no longer an option. He is wanting to see what Ark and Duke are doing in the portal. I think the money is a factor but playing time is going to matter to him.

Louisville has been focused on bigger and more athletic guards. I think there is room for another stud at the 2. Once that is filled the back court should be good. Then they can focus on what they want to do at the 3.

Do you think there is need for another/back up PG to come off the bench or can Kobe fill that need?

According to the local talk shows the coaches love Kobe. He was really coming on before he blew his knee out.

They do have some flexibility at the 3 just depends how they want to attack it. Ament is a unicorn at 6-9 that plays like a guard. Hadley and Rooths. That makes them stupid long. Without him they could go smaller 6-4 to 6-6. Big bodied dudes that shoot and create. A lot of guys in portal that would be interesting. The Xavier kid, Cromwell, would be an example. He just committed which makes for a nasty set of guards.

They can now go multiple ways at the 3-4-5

ESPN just showed Ament to Louisville under the roster for the Burger game. Did he commit or was this a mistake?

The fact that Ament placed UL at the very top of his recruitment is a testament to where CPK and UL BB has progressed in one year.

If losing Nate as a result of being out-bid, I think we should consider it more as our unwillingness to compete further, than his choosing a better school. Regardless of how the recruiting battle for Ament works out, I like our chances when we visit Tennessee for the rematch.

Henderson's exit from Duke probably paves the Ament to Duke path more clear. Just my guess though, I think others guessed this before I did, I haven't followed it too closely.

I agree, and I also think that we should move on. He obviously wants a bidding war and it also appears to be a me first player,

My disdain for anything and everything orange continues to grow. If it weren't for Nashville and Gatlinburg, the whole state could just fall off the planet. Lol
They poached our short stop and now they've obviously swooped in with their deep pockets and taken us out of the picture.
Oh well, I'm thrilled we landed Brown, a true point guard in a game dominated by guard play.

I don't know that Ament is necessarily going to the highest bidder, though with who is his final four/five are it would be easy to jump to that conclusion. It seems to me given the pushback of his timeframe it likely has more to do with playing time and it's potential for him to be in the Draft in 2026 though I was warning back in January when I watched his games being streamed he didn't have the combination of length plus athleticism necessary to be a Lottery pick in the '26 Draft. He still seems like he's growing.

Either way, the last thing he'd want to be is to have his frame and not be able to showcase his skill set for 28-32 minutes a game. Not many players platooning with somebody else for 20 minutes a game are ending up in the Lottery.

Rumors are 2.5-3 million is where his offer landed. I just can't and won't understand that. He's 6'9, 185 pounds!! Not the kind of dude Barnes usually goes after but is what it is! Can't wait until we play them!!

I think it’s about playing time as well. But as far as draft pick - he’s definitely a lottery pick.

The reality is the Louisville roster didn’t churn. At this point they have a legit 10 man rotation even without Pryor. I think that is Pryor delay. I read the Pryor and kid from Auburn situation as they may go somewhere else together. The Auburn kid isn’t coming to Louisville.

That doesn’t mean I don’t want Pryor back but I see it from his perspective. He is going to want significant minutes. If he comes back someone’s playing time is going to be impacted.

Ament dropped Louisville because of that you saw Arkansas add guys to which impacted Ament. UK was the same. Duke has space now which will make it a UT Duke battle.

Where did you read that?
I heard the same thing from my recruiting in-the-know son last night. Apparently they were together at the same school in Florida a few years ago. I’m not saying they end up going as a package but they MIGHT be shopping that. He said they took a vacation somewhere exotic recently.
They're tight.

Well I thought it was about playing time but now that we know what players are staying and what players are leaving I now think it is about money.

Are you referring to the instagram post on Pryors account with the 2 of them with the caption “making moves”?

we don't have the size to beat Kentucky. so really need to shore up size with those last spots.
Kentucky has Malachi Moreno at 7'1. Quaintance at 6'9, and Andrija Jelavich at 6'11. they can play all 3 of these guys at the same time.
