Nate Ament update

we don't have the size to beat Kentucky. so really need to shore up size with those last spots.
Kentucky has Malachi Moreno at 7'1. Quaintance at 6'9, and Andrija Jelavich at 6'11. they can play all 3 of these guys at the same time.
Don’t really care about uk. I’m concerned about beating our conference foes.

Where did you read that?
Meant I interpret the situation, their relationship and the timing to be exploring the market while trying to find a spot together. Pryor is the wild card because of his knee. Maybe a 2 for 1 improves Pryor’s leverage.

There is no reason Pryor hasn’t enter portal or said he was staying. If he was staying or found a better spot we would have known by now. That tells me the market isn’t there yet probably because of the injury. He may try to extend this until summer trying to get more leverage. I think the staff is being patient. They can, but at some point probably next week they force his hand.

The roster has not yet been completed, but I believe our size, even at this early point in time (with or without Pryor) is comparable to UK’s current 2025-26 roster. I appreciate size as much as anyone, but suspect it will be the guards who dictate who wins this next in-state rival game.

Amari Williams isn’t walking through the coruppt arena door and he’s far better than anyone they’ve coming in

The Portal closes Tuesday, so you have to be entered by Tuesday. We will for sure now his intentions in the next 24/48 hours

agree to disagree that we don't need size. but the numbers say otherwise.

James Scott against Creighton had 0 points and 2 boards,
against Duke he had 6 points and 2 boards in 32 minutes
against UK, 4 points and 0 boards.

Khalifa had 3 games over 9 points in 2023. he was frequently shutdown against top 25 teams.

I’d agree that an additional frontcourt player would be beneficial. 6’7”-6’10” guy who likes to rebound would be a great find.

What’s up with Pryor? I really hope he stays. This seems to be drawn out more than I’m used to, I guess. We really need him at PF. Running a three guard offense with Pryor and Fru. Then Fru switching off with Khalifa and James Scott between forward and center.. I’d love another PF/C defender, but i think we’re set unless we go for the auburn or fsu kid.

Houston got as far as the NCAA Championship game before losing to Florida with two (2) 6’8” big men …… that’s it, no one taller than that played in the final game. Clearly the Gators were taller, but the difference between winning and losing had nothing to do with superior or inferior size. At the end it was all about turnovers.

Agree that Scott was invisible against Creighton, and he was pretty much ineffective in the losses to both UK and Duke as you stated so accurately. However, our loss to UK was a direct result of Butler’s 33 points, and Owen’s 17 points; 6’2” and 6’4” respectively.

Two of the greatest rebounders to play College basketball were Wes Unseld and Charles Barkley, both of who were only 6’6” tall. (I went to school with Wes, and those reports of his height at 6’8” were overstated, his older brother George was 6’7”, and clearly a bit taller)

I am not saying that size is not a factor, or is irrelevant in college basketball, but your own example of Scott at 6’11” helps illustrate that just being tall does not necessarily translate into being effective.

College is a game dominated by guards. You still need guys that can protect the rim and rebound the ball with abandon, but I'll trade 3s for 2s all day 😉
