I couldn’t agree more. One horse collar tackle by a UK linebacker cost UofL a title and really sidelined Michael’s career. He was never the same runner. My favorite UofL football picture is from the third play of that game and depicts Michael on his way to the end zone with the entire UK defense in futile pursuit. He was the difference between a national championship and where we ended up. No doubt.
Half of them were on the ground having been trampled underfoot.I couldn’t agree more. One horse collar tackle by a UK linebacker cost UofL a title and really sidelined Michael’s career. Earl Campbell run. Half the defense had his shoe prints on their body when he was done.Half of them were on the ground having been trampled underfoot.
I don’t think it was a horse collar from what I remember. It was just a very awkward tackle and the most unlucky situation in UofL history,I couldn’t agree more. Absolutely a horse collar!
I played golf with him last summer. Pretty good dude, solid golfer. He's around a 2 cap.
I stand corrected
You can grab the back of a jersey. He didn't grab the shoulder pads at all. That's a legal tackle. It was just unlucky. I mean unless you just don't want to watch, he pulled his jersey to bring him down, the video is there and his hand never goes near the shoulder pads. It truly was a freak accident because the sUcKs LB just couldn't bring him down normally and Michael's leg got caught awkwardly. You can see him grabbing around the middle of his number, not the shoulders.
The definition of a horsecollar is below as well. You can grab a jersey. Honestly, had the defender grabbed him by the horsecollar it might have been better for MB.
The horse-collar tackle is a gridiron football maneuver in which a defender tackles another player by grabbing the back collar or the back-inside of an opponent's shoulder pads and pulling the ball carrier directly downward violently in order to pull his feet from underneath him.
I don’t think there was ever a better environment than the 2006 Governor’s Cup. We parties all weekend and were so ready for that game. And we just were rolling. But man his injury ruined so much. Thanks for posting that clip. I watched the rest of the game. Great memories (except for Michael’s leg).
I think you meant to say "dominate CU<FSU<and The U" for league supremacy. We need to F U them all.The past can be cherished, but it is the future that we all look forward to. Over the years UL has had several opportunities to elevate the program to a higher level. The Fiesta Bowl win over the Tide, the Sugar Bowl win over UF and a few other situations where there was momentum, but losing our Head Coach resulted in having to start over..
If UL can retain Jeff, something that will not be easy, and something that we have struggled to do (Schnellenberger, JLS, Petrino, Strong) in the past; we have a chance to jump over the majority of our ACC brethren, and compete head to head with Clemson, FSU and Miami.
