We play great “D”, kick the ball at the 26 second mark and the damn clock resets to 20 seconds? Are you kidding me? If that is indeed the rule it needs to be changed!

Think about it, if they did not do that the last couple of minutes would look like a soccer game.

I’m not sure but the old rule might have completely reset the clock.
What Sawyer is saying is that teams (players) will try to deflect passes by kicking the ball if there is no penalty. Game could get ugly.

Thanks NC, that was the point I was trying to make.

The old rule would have reset the clock to 30 seconds. You are correct.

I would hope the rule would be changed to reflect soccer's version of a hand ball; is it a hand ball where it lies outside the normal frame or the body, or is it ball to hand?

To me it rewards what can theoretically be a bad pass.

Kicking the ball is an illegal play on the part of the defense. The penalty is the clock resetting to 20 seconds. It did in fact used to be 30 seconds.
