Judge in Federal Hoops Trial

No one, including Zipp has suggested that Pitino was not responsible for his assistant coaches (McGee, Johnson or Fair) behavior. Not trying to speak for Zipp, but I think most all of us can agree that Rick was both accountable and responsible, something Rick has acknowledged himself. However, not only is there zero evidence of Pitino having any knowledge of either of the 2 scandals (Strippergate, or Bowengate), there is testimony under oath from the co-conspirators that it was intentionally hidden from Pitino. In Strippergate there are at least 5 UL players living in Minardi Hall at the time Powell was entertaining McGee’s guests ......... who have testified under oath in a deposition that they were unaware of any of those events. If they did not know, it is quite likely that no one else outside that circle would know either.

For those UL fans who believe Pitino either had involvement, or was even aware of the Adidas payments to Bowen’s father ................. you better hope you are wrong, because if the NCAA Committee on Infractions believes you are right, this University will most assuredly be up for the Death Penalty.

We're up for it regardless, but the good news is the last time a program was given the death penalty, it never recovered and the NCAA has said since they wouldn't be doing it again if it can be avoided. Look none of this matters any more because Pitino is gone, Jurich is gone, and the new regime is in place. It's not going to change what has happened, but it MIGHT lessen the pain the NCAA can cause by reacting to the stench instead of ignoring it or defying it ever happened. It's over now. The new era is here. The old era is not coming back.

Then what do you suggest? Seriously, I am curious. I’ve seen you make your arguments about recruiting before and it’s all been rooted in fear and paranoia. Would you prefer your school to pursue only 1 and 2 star athletes who are low risk?
The answer is different for different schools...for slapd!cks, it's easy.

Get a coach who relies more on actual coaching and not entirely on recruiting the bluest of blue chips. Then, you're not completely dependent on recruiting.

For other schools, the answer's more complicated...

The "death penalty" ain't even for sure an option for the NCAA. I continue to point out that we weren't a repeat offender, i.e., on probation. The FBI stuff came out before the penalties for McGee and the ho were imposed...

Do you honestly think the NCAA is going to let you slide because of a two week window between the FBI stuff and the Powell punishment? I’m sorry but it’s common sense and they will look at it like a repeat offense.

So what’s your answer to the question? I asked you your opinion on what Louisville’s recruiting strategy should be and you went on to talk about Kentucky.
It sounds like you prefer lower rated guys but I don’t know because you sidestepped the question. Is Mack the guy who can win with 1 and 2 star talent?

Death Penalty not on the table [for anybody anymore]. But I could see additional probation years or recruiting restrictions tacked on. The closest thing to a Death Penalty for us would be another postseason ban which causes our #2 class to dissolve.

IMO a 2 year ban is what is coming. I so hope I am wrong, but this is the NCAA's chance to look "tough" in front of everybody because of the visibility of Louisville in this whole matter and we have a dude on tape saying "Gotta keep this on the downlow, we're on probation because of ugly nasty stanky skank trickass ho's".

I think it will be a one year ban and scholly reduction. I don’t know, but seeing how Mack jumped at the job surprised me. He was the top choice for any school last year and he didn’t hesitate. It almost makes me think someone has slipped a note under the door to Tyra. Metaphorically speaking.

He jumped at the chance to coach the Cards because like it or not, the UofL head basketball coaching job is one of the best in the country. I know you guys hate even admitting that as true, but it is true. UofL is on the same level as UofK, KU, Duke, and UNC as far as the rest of the college basketball world is concerned. We are not little brother to anyone in spite of what you may think.

Go CARDS!!!

I think UL is a top 6 or 7 program all time and you absolutely should be proud. Not quite on the level of the programs you mentioned but that’s not a knock. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Mack would jump at a job like Louisville. It surprised me that Mack jumped at a job that’s awaiting sanctions. That should make any card fan feel optimistic about said sanctions and their severity.

Your opinion. Not a fact. My opinion is the UofL job is as good as any in college basketball. It's subjective for sure, but considering the job is rarely open, it means it is a coveted job.

I don’t argue that it’s a top job. It is and in a hot bb market

IMO before all this scandal crap, the UofL job was a top 4 job when you consider salary, fan support, city you get to live in, conference, etc. The only job I would’ve put ahead of it for sure is UNC.

Has anyone seen his contract? Does anybody know if U of L gets sanctioned, he may not be obligated to fulfill his contract? In this day and age, a coach would be stupid not to have some outs, especially if he had nothing to do with it. It might not be as big a gamble as some think.

His contract gets extended if UofL has sanctions not of his doing.

It was more like six months, not that facts matter to slappies...

You're a slapd!ck which is why I gave you the slappy context.

Mack should recruit 4-star and lower talent unless he has rock solid evidence about a blue chip recruit...

Whatever penalty is imposed going forward should be appealed and then litigated. Of course, that's if "Vince" can raise the money...

I’m pretty sure that’s everyone’s recruiting strategy

Do you know what's in your own backyard?...
I know what I see and I’m happy with our recruiting. If we get popped for cheating I’ll be bummed like hell. But I’m not gonna sit around wringing my hands and worrying. That’s for cowards. Let’s be honest reeling in the big fish has worked well so far. Whenever you gather some facts and proof that we have paid players then I expect you to swing away. Until then I don’t care.

You obviously don't know what/who "everyone" includes...

I know who my program is recruiting...

Well they didn’t. So there’s that.
And you’re basing that statement on what exactly?

You have no idea what they did or didn’t get. IIRC the Chicago paper (Sun?) never printed a retraction as demanded by the family and uk- despite threats of legal action. They only took the story down - which doesn’t in any way mean it wasn’t true, just that they couldn’t prove it beyond doubt.

You know exactly the same amount of facts as me. Just because you want it to be true doesn’t mean it is.

Works both ways. Just because you don't want it to be true doesn't mean it isn't true.

See how that works?
Sure, but I only deal in facts. Fact is there's no evidence. As a matter of fact it wasn't even investigated. When there's something real to be bummed about, I'll be bummed.

Fact is there's plenty of evidence. It's just being covered up which is what kittens do. They cover stuff up that smells. :D
