There isn't much margin for error for those looking to stake a claim in the Washington Commanders' wide receiver room. That didn't stop one analyst from bolding claiming an overlooked pass-catcher could shake up the depth chart this offseason with a smooth transition.

Adam Peters made fortifying the supporting cast around star quarterback Jayden Daniels a top priority during his second recruitment period at the helm. The Commanders allocated substantial resources to the offensive line and the skill positions. Nothing is guaranteed, but hopes are high that there is enough for Washington's offense to become one of the league's best in 2025.

This increased competition for places stands to make everyone better. It'll take a monumental effort for the unheralded players to stake a claim. Although difficult, Brent Sobleski from The Bleacher Report picked out undrafted free agent Ja'Corey Brooks as a wideout with the tools needed to sneak his way onto the 53-man roster.

From there, the Commanders front office should still be looking for other targets who can do some damage. Ja'Corey Brooks originally committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide as a 5-star recruit. In 2024, the wide receiver transferred to Louisville where he led the Cardinals with 1,013 receiving yards. Brooks' game is predicated more on body control than speed and quickness."

Brooks looked like a potential superstar once upon a time. The highly coveted high school recruit went to Alabama and thrived initially. Injuries dented his progress, but going over 1,000 receiving yards after transferring to Louisville in 2024 got him back on track.

That wasn't enough to hear his name called during the 2025 NFL Draft, which worked in Washington's favor. They beat out several suitors to secure his services, but that doesn't guarantee he'll stick around.


Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel Sr., Noah Brown, Luke McCaffrey, and rookie Jaylin Lane should make it. Michael Gallup will also fancy his chances after being coaxed out of retirement by the Commanders. This could be it unless Washington allocates seven spots to the receiver room. That is the size of Brooks' challenge in pursuit of flipping the script.

Realistically, making the 53-man team remains unlikely. Brooks could take a meteoric surge forward, but a place on the practice squad seems much more feasible, all things considered.

Still, it'll be fun to see if he can make the impression needed to warrant a discussion about his role, if nothing else.
