An area that must be emphasized in order to return to the Final Four and win the national championship is hitting free throws. Missing free throws has cost us some games the last couple of years, including the return to Final Fours and likely another national championship. High Division 1 players must develop the ability to consistently hit free throws in order to compete effectively, especially in the NCAA tournament. It is time to make this a TOP priority.

I see too many flat-footed foul shots and too many with no or poor rotation. Bend those knees, follow through and get it over the front of the rim. Somewhere there has to be video of the late Al McGuire calling a game describing the FF shooter's flaws. Or take a look at some footage of Ice or Macy shooting them.

There is no reason D1 athletes should ever shoot below 80%. It's a skill that can be practiced. Too few players and coaches focus on it... but come on. Drives me crazy! World-class athletes should be able to hit those consistently. Often times, it is the difference in the game...

30 years ago, a good free throw shooter hit 90% and a center was a 70% shooter. Today, you can find point guards who shoot in the 50% range.

I compare it to a football team that doesn't put enough emphasis on special teams, it often is 25 percent of the scoring, it should get the proper attention, I had no idea what amount of coaching time they spend on it but it either isn't enough or inadequate
