A great start to the Cards 2020 Field Hockey season, Louisville getting the 3-0 whitewash of Duke Saturday afternoon at Trager Stadium!

The Cards got on the board with their first goal with just 23 seconds left in the first half. Mercedes Pastor took a feed from Mattie Tabor in front of the Duke goal and sent it past Duke goalkeeper Piper Hampsch.

Louisville tallied again with 5-1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. This time it was freshman Charlie van Oirschot getting her first collegiate goal when Minna Tremont sent a pass into the the box and van Oirschot guided in ball in past the out-stretched Hampsch.

The Cards wasted no time in getting their third score. Just two minutes after the second goal, Mercedes Pastor tried an attempt from the top of the circle. That attempt missed, but the ball was deflected back to her and her second shot found net.

Louisville had a 10-5 shot advantage in the match and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Cardinal goalkeeper Hollyn Barr got the shutout with three saves.

The two squads meet again today (Sunday) for a 1:30 p.m. match. The game will be shown on the ACC Network.

(Note: yesterday's scheduled Volleyball match between Louisville and Notre Dame was cancelled because of COVID testing protocol. Unofficial but reliable sources revealed that a Cardinal tested positive. No re-schedule date has been set, as of this writing}.
