University of Louisville field hockey team lost 2-0 at No. 14 Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest Friday evening at Kentner Stadium. The loss drops the #7 Cards to 9-3 overall and 0-3 in the ACC

After the teams played through a scoreless first half, it was the Deacs who broke through with 5:23 left in the third quarter when Sky Carron’s penalty stroke found its way into the cage. A call that could have gone either way, but the refs decided in favor of the home team.

Wake Forest (8-3, 1-1 ACC) added an insurance goal midway through the fourth quarter when Immie Gillgrass connected on a feed from Nat Friedman to make the score 2-0.

Wake Forest outshot Louisville 12-9 and held a 4-3 edge in penalty corners. Cards goalie Sasha Elliott posted a season-high nine saves – including five in the second half.

Despite good ball movement and plenty of opportunities, UofL simply couldn't put one in the net and that' how you amass wins, by scoring more than your foe. The Cards have yet to score in three ACC contests.

Louisville travels to Liberty next for a non-conference Sunday match at Liberty.
