Coaches not impressed

The Top 25 Coaches poll today and Louisville didn't receive a single vote. Some 40 teams overall and no Louisville.

The AP pole the Cards did receive 27 votes which places them 35th overall. That's about right even though I don't get how Indiana has 72 votes and is 5 spots ahead.

Looks like the coaches are not impressed much with the new Cards.

What a joke! Would love for someone to rationalize placing IU ahead of Louisville. If Louisville won against OK I wonder if they would even be ranked?

The coaches didn’t watch and probably had no clue the beat down IU took. Coaches poll is a joke

Not surprised or concerned at this point. Cards next six opponents are 34-10 (77% win pct), so we will have tons of opportunities to prove how good we are.

Neither of those two polls are even the one I care about. The only one that matters to me (the committee’s) doesn’t publicize its top 16 until mid February.

As PU said, just keep proving themselves and it will come.

I do not believe the rankings this early. UConn lost 3 games to unranked opponents, but remains in the AP at #25. Most media know they are missing Karaban and they will be a whole lot better when he returns very soon.

The reason I started this thread was to show the difference between the AP and the coaches on the perception of Louisville through seven games. I thought it may be interesting to have people wonder why the big disparity, yet it's the same thing like "I don't believe in the polls" and "the polls don't mean anything."

I just don't get it. There's been rankings each week for college basketball for decades. Fans want to see where their favorite team is and when there's a big disparity, they wonder why.

The first sentence of your last paragraph says it all. We’re just trying to help you youngins “to get it”. 😂

I used to care about the polls, but I eventually realized that the very large percentage of people voting in those polls know significantly less about the Louisville basketball team than I do. It’s going to take them a couple of months to “get up to speed”. Most of the voters are like the outraged IU fan I messaged with last week who was upset that his ranked team lost to a “rebuilding UofL that was 8-24 last year.”

That realization taught me to care very little about polls (especially in December), and also to figure out what was worth caring about when it came to my favorite basketball team.

The disparity (I wouldn’t call it a big one, but I will acknowledge that it exists) is because coaches are too busy coaching to put any effort into doing research on teams they aren’t playing before they vote in the poll each week. I’ve always found the writers poll to be more current than the coaches poll for that very reason - writers have a little more time on their hands than coaches do.

Not a single coach who votes in the poll has played UofL yet, and the only one that will eventually is Adrian Autry of Syracuse. He doesn’t play us until Jan 14th.

I hate to break it to you. Karaban played in all 3 losses, one game he was leading scorer. He played against Dayton, Colorado and Memphis.

I read somewhere that coaches don’t do the poll. They all delegate it out to someone.

i don't see the point of the tournaments. we went 2-1 and didn't get ranked.
better to go 3-0 against cupcake teams.
