Cards WBB vs GT

Well she is the 2nd leading scorer on the team. She hit 4 shots in a row against sUcK in the 4th period to give us the win. She hit 4 shots in a row against UConn in the 4 period to give us a win and your disappointed.
Look no one is saying she's a scrub. She's just not the star she was described as being.

It’s true the officiating is horrible and clearly amateur, particularly with the 3rd foul on Emily, and the subsequent Technical on Jeff when the officials actually reviewed the play, but only after having failed to do it without Jeff’s complaint, earning the technical.

Defensively our wings are getting sucked into helping Olivia on Cuba, leaving the GT forwards wide open for 3s. Disappointing that Jeff failed to adjust, That along with missed FTs are hard to understand.

Refs just refuse to call the body contact on GT. Also, these ‘announcers’ are just so excited with how GT is playing and they are showing bias.

2:35 left down by 5 and I think we have already lost this game. However it is not because of HVL this is a team loss.

Walz called timeout to set that play up for HVL. That's why he's such a beloved coach by the players. He wanted to give her confidence and she came through. Her strength is going left with her shot.

They deserve to lose this game. Missing all those FT's and bunnies is not the refs fault.
They’ve done very little today to deserve this game. GT is coming off a pause and playing with only 7 players. And it looks as we’re playing under handed coming off a pause.

Man, sounds like some people want them to lose. Didn’t get what you wanted. Gutsy win!

One of the most undeserved wins I've ever seen. Cards just weren't mentally focused for this game. They only got focused in the 4th quarter when they saw they were going to lose.

Walz again shows great coaching with those two plays at the end. Lucky win but I'll take it.

South Carolina should remain #1.

The play was designed for HVL but when the 2 players left “M” to cover HVL “M” just couldn’t pass up the layup. It was funny after the game was over you saw HVL and M over there laughing about it.

HVL is $$$ in crunch time and she's just getting started !

If everyone would look at her stats compared to some of our past great guards she is ahead of most of them at this stage in her game. I watch a lot of women’s basketball and right now there are only a few freshmen or sophomores who are performing at her level.

Yeah I think to be honest she a victim of her hype coming in, not to mention we’ve been spoiled by some really great players. I suspect when she’s a senior or maybe next year will be very impressed. If you think about Dana Evans climb it’s very similar.

This reminds me of the first period against Boston College all defense and no offense. We are going to have to get pints in transition to get our offense going.
Koz took your advice and proceeded to get a pint during each transition from game to commercial break. You are a hell of a bartender, I mean Coach. You all can thank me after my post game slur. Another great wine, er I mean win for the Carddddddssss.

HVL uses her left handedness to her advantage. She has to because she's short and isn't quick or athletic. I thought she was a better 3 point shooter than she has showed.

I believe her hype has both helped and hurt her but one thing is for sure, she's a gamer. She's plays hard and she's fearless. But this notion there's not many guards at her level is rather comical.

She's not a all-American. She's a role player whose effort gets her the stats she has. She may improve her outside shot just like Dana Evans did in her sophomore season? But she's no Shoni Schimmel or Asia Durr.

Ok - must reply. Asia Durr was fantastic. Shoni - had her moments but wasn’t very good defensively- at all. HVL is a SOPH. She is a complete player - period. Passes, rebounds, plays solid defense and scores. Her shot has been coming around more and more every game. I don’t give a crap is she is shooting 3s - she just needs to score - which she has. But, she doesn’t need to need to lead us in scoring. I am not sure what some people thought she was going to do.

Statistically she is ahead of Dana Evans, on pace with Shoni Schimmel and behind Asia Durr.

Totally agree; HVL is like a lot of men’s and women’s shooters who struggle at times with their shot falling. She has excellent form and it will improve based on how hard she works in the gym.

Hope you guys are right. I would love for her to prove me wrong. For the record, I wasn't referring to her all around skills, just her offense. She's definitely a winner and a very valuable player. I just think she's very limited offensively. She sure as hell can change my mind and with her determination to get better, she probably will.

One thing you have to figure when you are comparing these players. Who were their supporting players and what roles did they play. Asia and Schoni were the main outside threats. On the current team you have multiple outside shooters and the scoring and shots taken are going to be more distributed.

No matter what kind of game she's having I don't think there is anyone who would have a problem with HVL taking the last shot of the game.

Go back and look at the shooting slump that Dana experienced at the tail end of the season; it happens to most everyone. HVL has a very nice rhythm and form in her shot, but when she missed the 2 FTs early on, it made me suspect that she might be adjusting to the emphasis Walz is placing on her defensive responsibilities. Clearly Walz believes this roster has the athleticism to play a level of defense that can overcome a poor half court offensive performance.

To Real’s point…no, HVL is not a shooter like Durr or Evans. I agree and many probably thought, due to her HS ranking, she’d come in and dominate. She is a scorer though vs a shooter (IMO). She isn’t going to come into game and just dominate it like Asia could or just fill it up like Beuckers at UConn does. HVL’s game is an all-around game and I am not worried that she isn’t an AA when it comes to stats. She is a winner and is tough - that is what makes her who she is.
