Cornerbacks in Louisville's defense will have a lot of pressure to execute next season if the Cards can't develop a pass rush. The longer a quarterback has to throw, the longer corners (and safeties) have to cover. From a defensive coordinators standpoint, the longer a quarterback has to throw, the weaker his job security becomes. Due to their scarcity, pass rushers are a premium commodity making them harder to obtain. Defensive backs, however, are more common in the population, but they're not exactly abundant. In the interim, Louisville is going to have to add quality corners and safeties to mitigate the lack of a pass rush until they can develop one.

They mitigated that loss by signing three-star Jamie Vance from Louisianna then added some depth with two-star early enrollee corner Marqui Lowery. In the 2019 cycle, Louisville signed late qualifying Junior College corner Justin Ford. Unfortunately, Ford seemed to become disenchanted with football after failing to crack the two-deep and became a stranger around the football complex. He is currently in the transfer portal. Over the past two cycles, Louisville has two cornerbacks to show for their efforts.

Louisville loses Character next yeat, so they most certainly need to sign one corner, and with Johnson being a red-shirt Junior, they will probably want two.
