Protecting top brands?

To play devils advocate here...question for you Rollem and any former players....if you personally had a bad call, called on you how did you take it, and react to it?

Did it motivate you to play harder? A little smarter? Spark that competitive spirits in you to do better? Copping an attitude to an official or blaming the officials for an egrecious error/call never seemed to work for me.

And ultimately it seems to always pop up by the team that loses. No?
IDK, venting is a part of human nature and I get that. Just an observation. We live in an unfair and imperfect world. Bla bla bla.o_O;)
There were a lot of bad calls (we thought) and no calls. But there were two I was involved in.

I had a holding called on me when I knocked the out of the game temporarily (I later played with him in college 🤣) that called back a TD. We won easily anyway.

And we lost a State championship on a “no call” when I was held on a sweep that scored. It was right on the end of the LOS and was easily seen on film. Should’ve had inside help but oh well…

How did it affect me? I don’t remember to be honest. 🤷‍♂️🤣

But obviously I never forgot it 😉

The key is to win more interconference matchups. That will help the perception of the league. That SMU can come in right away from the AAC and dominate doesn’t look good. We have to do our part by beating UK. Clemson has to beat USCjr, FSU over UF, and so forth. When we get a shot at a B1G school we have to win it. It will take a few years of that, but by doing that we will improve the perception of the ACC. There is no substitute for victory, as MacArthur said.

True. But dog chase tail.

It’s hard to win “consistently” when obvious bad calls prevent it…..but you need to win consistently to get “a pass” on borderline calls.

Keep in mind the SEC has done this for years. There is a valid business reason. The problem for the ACC is it has an image problem. It has been Clemson and everyone else. It is really up to the other schools to start winning. The SEC has only been Georgia and Alabama the last 10 years but they have several other brands.

Virginia Tech can’t lose to Vandy and Rutgers. Louisville can’t lose to Pitt and UK last year. When the league has image problem Louisville-VT officials can’t be perceived to have an agenda. The league took a PR hit. The overturning of the fumble in the SMU game from a league perspective was stupid. It potentially impacted the Miami game and now Clemson game if Louisville won. Both would be top 25 matchups on TV. Miami game would have been talked about nationally before and after because it was a great game. Instead the ACC took another PR hit by over turning a call that wasn’t clear to anyone. Miami probably still wins that game. Why take PR hit? It hurt Miami as well they aren’t really that good they are lucky.

The leadership in the league is lacking that is clear but Louisville and others have to start winning more consistently.

Something going terribly wrong in Lexington

The problem is the conferences. The SEC and Big Ten have become too big. The only way for them maintain peace among the ranks it get more playoff spots. It is the only way to protect coaches for their crazy fanbases more specifically the SEC. Big Ten fans are crazy but self aware.

They are absolutely going beat each other up because TV isn’t going to let their brands not play each other. Unfortunately for UK the brands need a break. UK won’t be able to avoid having to play 3-4 games against UT, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, LSU or Alabama. Then UK gets teams that are on a level playing field with them Missouri, Miss St, Arkansas, South Carolina or even Vandy. Then let’s say they thread the needle on the cusp of the playoff then they have to play Louisville. It is brutal.

UK is no slouch but man there is zero hope for playoffs. And if there is it will be quickly extinguished like this year.
