It really is amazing what they have done with the group. They don’t have one weekend starter that can go 4-5 innings consistently. Give them Notre Dame’s 3 staters and the closer, this team they would be excellent.
Coaching hasn’t been the issue. The entire problem was how they built the pitching staff knowing they were stacked offensively. I really don’t think they did the work necessary to find key pitchers in the portal. Cutts hasn’t been good which is a surprise but none of the other guys were highly thought of.
None of the returning pitchers were weekend guys. I think Bevin and Forbes should have been flipped. Bevin the starter and Forbes the closer. Even with that neither of those guys know how to pitch. They needed weekend guys at least 3 from the portal that knew how to pitch at this level. Then pray a couple freshman are ready.
With that said this weekend the offense was the problem. They didn’t have a good weekend.
Injuries may have played a part but both Bevin and Forbes have been major disappointments. 3 or so years in the program and both are struggling. Comparing their stats to other ACC programs "big guns" is quite sobering. To make matters worse, Michael's performance - stats are now trending in the wrong direction.
I just don't understand how Mac and Williams didn't see this coming. It's inexplicable.
Everyone talks about Bevin's potential once he figures it out but as one poster noted that will happen after he leaves.
Finally, another huge miss in recruiting the high school ranks appears to be Collin Mowry and yes, I understand this year was planned to be a redshirt season. Defensively he's a disaster behind the plate even given the garbage being thrown at him. Offensively, he simply cannot make contact.
Rant over. Happy Sunday.
