The Cards set a new team record over the weekend, a dubious one. The team record for Wild Pitches was set in 1997 with 86. The Cards have eclipsed that mark. Current count: 87 wild pitches. 8 games to go. They could end up well over 100.

I dug through the record book to check Most Bases on Balls. Despite the inability to consistently throw strikes, the all time Most Bases on Balls record is safe. The record: 420 (1981.) Current pitching staff has 259.

It really is amazing what they have done with the group. They don’t have one weekend starter that can go 4-5 innings consistently. Give them Notre Dame’s 3 staters and the closer, this team they would be excellent.

Coaching hasn’t been the issue. The entire problem was how they built the pitching staff knowing they were stacked offensively. I really don’t think they did the work necessary to find key pitchers in the portal. Cutts hasn’t been good which is a surprise but none of the other guys were highly thought of.

None of the returning pitchers were weekend guys. I think Bevin and Forbes should have been flipped. Bevin the starter and Forbes the closer. Even with that neither of those guys know how to pitch. They needed weekend guys at least 3 from the portal that knew how to pitch at this level. Then pray a couple freshman are ready.

With that said this weekend the offense was the problem. They didn’t have a good weekend.
What? Not coaching? Who recruits? Who recruits the portal? Cutts hasn’t been bad. Leaving pitchers in too long is coaching. Not having pitchers warmed up and ready is coaching. Not choosing the right pitchers to enter the game is coaching.

Injuries may have played a part but both Bevin and Forbes have been major disappointments. 3 or so years in the program and both are struggling. Comparing their stats to other ACC programs "big guns" is quite sobering. To make matters worse, Michael's performance - stats are now trending in the wrong direction.
I just don't understand how Mac and Williams didn't see this coming. It's inexplicable.
Everyone talks about Bevin's potential once he figures it out but as one poster noted that will happen after he leaves.
Finally, another huge miss in recruiting the high school ranks appears to be Collin Mowry and yes, I understand this year was planned to be a redshirt season. Defensively he's a disaster behind the plate even given the garbage being thrown at him. Offensively, he simply cannot make contact.
Rant over. Happy Sunday.

Kelsey Talks About Roster

Ridiculous! Louisville could sign three 5 star recruits and Lunardi would have the Cards a 4 seed. Same thing with the polls. Cards wouldn't be a top 5 pre-season either.

Just more of the same.

Cards have 4 dudes 6'8 and taller. All expect to contribute significantly. It wouldn't hurt to have another one, but for me the Cards need a back up PG to spell Brown.
Lunardi projected UConn, Creighton, Purdue and Duke in the 2024-25 Final Four; how did that work out? This jerk deserves no credibility and seldom is he being called out for how his original projections fail to develop, yet as the season progresses he gains more and more influence. Seeding for the tournament becomes “a self fulfilling prophecy”, as those with low seeds (1-5) are matched with higher seeds (12-16) that are clearly more predictable. It’s a sham process.
