Women’s Sports gaining momentum

The 9K+ at the YUM! last night should be no surprise, as the UL WVB and WBB attendance and attention continues to grow.

Monday night I was at CAL to watch my niece and her Assumption Field Hockey team beat Sacred Heart for the KY State Championship to a packed stadium; the level of excitement and fan support there was truly amazing.

I seldom watched any women’s sports teams in the 60s through the 90s, but over the last 20 years my own interest has increased significantly. There is something very refreshing about witnessing HS and College ladies playing sports, while at the same time exhibiting a serious interest in their education…….something that has been declining in some of the Men’s sports.

In all honesty there is less drama in the women’s sports compared to the men’s sports. They are good athletes who are playing for the love of their sport. If the women received the same exposure that the men get they grow at a quicker pace.
