What is Pitino thinking blaming the fans?

Michigan State had a distinct advantage in fan support over the other three teams at the East Regional in Syracuse over the weekend, and that probably didn't hurt Tom Izzo's team make its Final Four run. The Spartans defeated Louisville in overtime of Sunday's Elite Eight match-up, and Cardinals coach Rick Pitino was impressed with his opponent's fan turnout.

Pitino: "I couldn't believe how much green" was in the Carrier Dome. "I'm very appreciative of the 500" Louisville fans who were there.

I didn't take it as blaming the fans. UL got a crappy draw on locations. Seattle and Syracuse.

Not many fan bases could make those trips.

Everyone was amazed at how MSU fans invaded Syracuse just like Illinois fans did at the Final Four in St Louis 2005.

And I'm not sure why used the number 500. I didn't get to see the game, but surely there were more UL fans than that.

Sorry Steelers. I just hate to see a coach throwing things like that out there. I used to live in Louisville, I still read the Courier-Journal off and on. But to say 500 fans were there, I came over here to see what you guys were saying about it and I didn't see anything so I thought you had not seen the quote! I guess you had and it was not an issue.
Never mind. Wait til football...just kidding...

Pitino had taken shots at the UL fan base for years. He routinely begs UL fans to not sell their UK/UL game tickets to blue wearing fans.

Him bringing this up just follows a pattern. He knew UL fans weren't going to show up in Syracuse. He's hoping that maybe if he calls them out then next year will be different. UL fans can say it will but that's what they said last year.

OSU guy trolling, wow thats never happened before. I never felt like this team had any maturity, and could never get behind it. We werent elite. It will be Duke and UK for the title, MSU isnt going anywhere. We lost by a free throw, but we werent going anywhere either. UL fans are pretty astute judges of talent. After the February we had, I went to Florida. Syracuse? Nah

Next year there will be some NIT games in YUM so he won't have to worry as much about the crowd advantage...
