Never have a I seen such a poor performance. I understand shots not going in…but.
1. Poor shot selection.
2. Missed shots tight under the basket.
3. TERRIBLE defense. That is controllable- effort, hustle, communication and a desire to stop the offensive player.
CJW’s stubbornness is showing by keeping Nyla on the floor. She really appears to have regressed in all facets of the game.

At the risk of being called an "attacker" again, It's very obvious Walz has dropped the ball with this roster. This is by far his worst team I think in his Cards coaching history.

He better go back to the portal because this group of freshmen were severely overhyped.

It will have to be a total turn around for this team to avoid a losing season.

I agree. There is more that needs to happen in basketball besides offense. Where has understanding the game by some of today's athletes gone that causes them not to put in the work and effort. In time the freshmen should progress. My biggest disappointment with this them is the upper classmen's performance todate.. This beatdown by NCst will just be one of many if this team does not see the ight.

If you are in Yum watching them play, coaching is not their only possible issue. Understanding your scouting report and, using it and giving effort is an issue. This team and previous teams are not playing the defense we are used to getting from the women's team. Many are quick to blame the coach. No coach in America teaches their players to play badly. If you can't carry over to the game what you learn in practice then that is on the player. In most sports you get what you earn.

I'm not criticizing Walz's coaching, it's his recruiting that has been poor. Nine freshmen is way too many. He messed up big time only getting one transfer and it's showing.

I think he was leaning on his experienced trio of returnees but they all have been, well let's say, not very effective.

I think Cochran should start but not Harris. Go small and play fast. Take 30 3's like the men do, because what he's doing now is not working.

I would disagree with sitting Harris. Harris is way more athletic than Cochran and hustles a lot more when on the court. She is also a better rebounder. To me, Harris's problem is she has no confidence in her midrange jumper and always wants to drive on her defender instead of taking the jumper.

CJW stubbornness in utilizing the portal is the issue. He doesn’t like and he tried to avoid it. No way are 8 Freshman going to carry a team in Division 1. Cochran is good but not the most athletic player and I don’t know whats going on with Harris. Nope his recruiting and stubbornness is the issue.

There is no way to defend today’s performance, nor can anyone explain it to suit me. I caught Jeff’s post game comments and he acknowledged his apology to the fans, something that needed to be said. This team cannot shoot, pure and simple. They had so many open looks, but could not hit them.

While no one played well; Nyla Harris came the closest ……….she was 4-10 and led all rebounders with 8 in 22 minutes. If the rest of the team played up to her level it would have been a competitive game.

I personally have no problem with the freshman. Tell me what the portal has to do with attention to detail from practice and an executing standpoint? Just because you are in the portal does not make you a smart ballplayer. It doesn't garauntee you will get hustle, defense, rebounding or shooting. It does mean you are more than likely seeking MORE money. Kelsey has a portal team. How is that working out? They play hard but that is just about all. If you want to question why he can't find a tall post player like it seems most teams have I can agree with that..

Well, for one thing, transfers are experienced and most of the time motivated to do more than they have already done at the college level. Most freshman still are learning things about their own game, much less the scouting reports of their opponents.

Smarter players are players who have learned and that is the advantage of experienced transfers over true freshmen. Walz doesn't have to stop recruiting freshmen, but he needs to balance it with transfers when necessary. I think we can see today it was necessary for this season.

As for Kelsey's portal team, I think it's pretty clear how good that was going to be until injuries devastated the roster. Plus there's several schools succeeding with large number of transfers, like Oklahoma.

It's weird because both the men and women are 6 and 5. The ladies have just one transfer and 9 freshmen while the guys have just one freshman and 10 transfers.

Nyla is grossly underperforming. I thought she was going to be the team leader and just excel this year. Total regression. The only player, today, who played like she ‘wanted it’ was Williams. This teams needs a dog - Engstler, Fruhing, Hines-Allen. They are soft and are not playing with the level of intensity required to win at this level.

Too many transfer portals last season learning to play together. Too many Freshman this year. Everything out of sync for Jeff. Guess there aren't many Engster's, Durr's, Van Lith's or McCoughtry's walking through that door anymore 🫤 🤮

Judging one player’s performance, in this case either Harris or Cochran, should be considered with respect to the performance of the rest of the players. Walz’s post game comments came as close to an explanation as we may ever get, as he stated that his pregame strategy was to take the half-court offense inside; yet the first 5 or 6 shots were 3s, albeit they were open looks; that was not what the game plan. Interestingly, Harris had 3 offensive rebounds in those early possessions, resulting in additional opportunities to get back into the half court offense.

Blaming individual upperclassman or incoming freshman or portal transfer player performances is overlooking the fact that it’s a team sport, and there is little if any evidence of chemistry or collective unity within this roster.

Jeff didn’t forget how to recruit or coach, but these changes in College Sports are effecting Women Basketball as much as Men’s. Jeff is frustrated more than we are, and I am confident he alone will have to figure this train-wreck out.

Individual players make up a team and it's up to the individual players to have unity and chemistry to go along with effort and ability. These players are not doing the job and for whatever reason, Walz cannot seem to figure out why.

Talented basketball players are required to win at this level and three of the Cards most experienced players are simply limited talent wise.

Cochran is a warrior who wants to win, but she is not effective enough down low because she's just not athletic enough and her outside shot is not consistent.

Harris has no post moves to speak of and is a bad outside shooter. She's a junior and should be by now the talented player she was forecasted to be as a highly recruited prep star. It's just not happening.

Russell is one dimensional which is fine as she's been a bench player her entire time here. She can make 3 pointers, but other than that, she doesn't add much.

Now I'm not disparaging these players to be mean or anything like that. They are Cardinals and I pull for them everytime they take the court. Players have limitations and these three veterans have too many to hold together a team where everyone else is a freshman.

Except Curry who may still not be 100 percent. She can shoot but her PG skills may not be good enough to start?

Walz needed his top rookies to be immediate impact players but Randolph, Arenas, Roberts and Berry all have been inconsistent, which is normal for most freshmen. Then there's the two front court players who can't see the court over the two foreign born players who do despite neither doing much of anything.

Walz definitely has his work cut out for him with this team.

Are there any on the coaching staff that are known as top recruiters / evaluators of talent other then Jeff ?
