Wow, what a first half for Louisville women's basketball yesterday. 41-12. shot that looked like the football score from...well, never mind. 10,000 + witnessed the second straight day of "Pitt pummeling" in the downtown arena. For "Dur-ress" verses "Durr-rest", keeping shooting percentages below 10%, ref-baiting gone awry and freshmen feats, let's score again off a turnover and go to:

FIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME

5) Oops, did I say that? We love "mayor for life" Jerry Abramson. Kevin Dillard doesn't fit into that category. "Hizzonerthemayor" will occasionally question an official's call from his sideline seat. He gave his opinion on the action yesterday and it met with stern rebuke from Mr. Dillard, who offered to "toss Jerry out of here" in a surprising reply. Maybe the reference to "Kev's work" in the Notre Dame vs. Louisville game hit a nerve. Do refs need to respond to fan's comments, though? Does the term "rabbit ears" apply here? Intrigue and drama. Right here in the River City!

4) "Durr"-able", "Dur-ess" and "Durr-Rest" . Asia Durr did not play against Pitt. She warmed up and was available, but the idea was to give her a night off, a little rest if possible. She's logged more minutes than any Cardinal WBB student-athlete and this wasn't exactly a top-25 match-up. As usual, fan inquiry and searching for the reason why #25 wasn't out there started jamming Paulie's twitter account. It got to the point where we started devising alternative answers. "She's tired from her WalMart visit earlier today", "Has a phobia about playing near Panthers, they're dangerous animals !", "She's celebrating National Chocolate Cake Day" and "is sitting out for Lacrosse season" were a few of Paulie's farcical replies.

She's fine. Just a little sore. She'll be ready for UConn Thursday night. A green light for the rest of ACC competition. Coach isn't worried and you shouldn't be either Next topic?

3) Are you sure there's a rim up there? Pitt made one basket in the first quarter and a mere two in the second quarter. 1-12 (8%) in the opening ten minutes. So, was it excellent defense, poor shooting and shot selection or a combination of both? Let's go with "combination of both". Poor Panther Cassidy Walsh -- she went 0 for game until a elbow to the head necessitated her removal from the game in accordance with the concussion protocol safety concerns. Pitt is a young team, has a new coach and will improve. It just wasn't their day down by the river. 28.3% for the chilly afternoon.

2) Rebounding with another big rebound night. The Cards won the battle of the boards 48-31. The second straight huge board effort in a row. Maybe the mindset of going to get the ball has kicked in. Kylee good for seven grabs and so was 5'6" Dana Evans. They'll need that and more against the Huskies Thursday, but -- they've got something started here and it's working.

1) Fine job freshmen! Walz was able to get Seygan Robins 18 minutes, Kasa Robinson 17 minutes and Lindsey Duvall 14 minutes. They made the most out of the extra court time by sinking a combined three threes, six baskets, six steals and six assists. They played in various court combinations, together at times and looked pretty good. We know not when their services might be needed for extended play in a crucial game, but -- I left the arena Sunday afternoon confident that all three are ready for the possible assignment. Commonwealth of Kentucky gals rule!
