  • VJ stated to Rick in seasons ending coaches one on one assessment with each player.. That he felt Rick gave him a much shorter leash than other players. And both came to terms on why. so hopefully all is good going forward with VJ.
Rick also admitted that the NCAA investigation has taken a toll on him this past season and he needs a much needed recharge.

I think King will become a major contributor in 17-18.Did he have a shorter leash?Maybe, but Freshman in this system usually do.The kid's got skill.

Needs to transfer? Haha
No, really. Anytime you score 24 in one game and 5 minutes the next is absurd. And don't give me that tired can't play defense line. 5 minutes doesn't give you a chance to be that bad.

The kid stayed commited through the scandal and got less playing time than a former walk-on.

Needs to go somewhere the coach and FANS have a better appreciation for him.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH he only scored 24 and played in that game because Deng Adel was suspended. He HAD to play. He HAD to score. He HAD to do it all. He didnt even do much in the 2nd half.

Please dont tell me you honestly think he needs to transfer. He will most likely be a star next season. NO ONE comes to UofL to be a ONE AND DONE. He KNEW that. If you're a 5 star and you go to UofL, you know coming in that you are NOT a OAD. It doesn't work that way at UofL. He had 0 intention of being OAD otherwise he wouldn't have came to UofL.

Speaking of.....weren't we supposed to hear something regarding the appeal last Friday??? Did I miss something?

The NCAA responded on Friday but it will not be released to the public until UofL decides to do so. Nothing new, but the best case scenario would be the NCAA accepting our self imposed ban. [This year feels like a ban too, smh]

Only way VJ could have been one and done , was to beat out Adel. He didnt.
If they played one on one ro 10, Adel probably wins 10 to 4.

I can honestly tell you from a statement made directly to me from the father of a respected player on the team. "VJ is a pro and kills Adel in practice everyday and Adel gets fustrated with VJ eating him alive and coach doesn't like a freshman doing that. " . You don't have to beleive it but it's from a player on the team that has no reason to lie.Nor do I.

I believe you. Should have played more. Just my opinion but I think he should leave before all of his confidence is destroyed.

So Coach Pitino would start a player, that is beaten out daily...........
We all have game tape.
Adel played all around-scoring, guarding 2 positions.
VJ looked like a lost freshman.
I call bogus on your information.

Which player's dad are you talking to? Genuinely curious.

You EARN your playing time from what you do in practice and games.

Coach Pitino just said Donovan will challenge Q for the starting PG spot.
So he's not going to favor an upperclassmen over an underclassmen who is getting beat out.

Coach Pitino is paid millions to win. He's not emulating Dean Smith's favoring upperclassmen.

Let's do the math. The only dad that's around here is Q's dad. I'm calling this info bogus as well. Deng is probably our best defender with Donovan. I've seen Deng beaten off the dribble a few times but I've yet to see Deng get dominated by anyone.

VJ is not the first victim of mind games but I digress.

Defense is great but how much do you need? I've never seen a 0-0 game. Somebody has to score.

So if VJ can score 26 and his guy score 20, that's a net win. If somebody scores 0 and his guy scores 7, who's not playing the defense?

But what do i know. Fr know they won't play here, so most go elsewhere.

Did you get banned Beasley?

Since its from the dad of a respected player then maybe you aren't BS'ing.

If King would ever learn to "see both" on defense he might play. Until then, his place is rightfully on the bench. He needs to learn how to play defense, he's a "ball watcher", whatever he gave us on the offensive end he gave back on defense. It's not that hard, but requires effort. Hopefully he'll get there.

The solution is simple. Since most of the posters on here feel he has little worth and Adel needs to continue playing 37 minutes a game he needs to leave NOW!!

It's only an issue because he's a Mickey D.

Siva only averaged 11 minutes per game freshman year, and I remember wishing it was more.

It's a right of passage. You better really be doing things right to crack the heavy minutes.

Where is this magical program that doesn't care about their incoming transfers playing defense? You act like there is some landing spot for people who don't play defense, other than a spot on the bench.

Whatever the situation this year is over and done with. If we are to go deep next season VJ has to average close to 10 a game.

He better improve in the following areas if he wants on the floor: physical strength (get in the weight room), toughness (with added strength hopefully this will come), ball skills (decent ball handler, but nothing exceptional), and the willingness and understanding of CRP's defensive system (he was simply lost on defense 75% of the time this season).

I've been around the game (not at the college level) and I hope the added physical strength will do wonders for VJ. To me, he appears very soft. I once had a strength and conditioning coach tell me that if in the off-season a kid would work super hard in the weight room and add the needed strength and bulk required that a player could never touch a basketball and come back a considerably better player.

He said the time spent in the weight room would be much more value added than a player playing pickup or repping shots, etc. I believe his theory and think this is what is holding VJ back. College ball is physical, you have to be bigger, stronger, faster. He's on the slight side physically, he needs to fix that.

There wasn't a lot of defense played against Michigan.

So, how do we keep getting kids that "aren't prepared" when they are ESPN Top 100 players? I know ratings don't matter, but why do we hang our hat on them?
http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/171062/vj-king

Last year we (fans) couldn't wait to get VJ because of how much he was going to help us, and this year he's "soft" and can't play D.

Next year, same thing, we are so looking forward to a Top 5 class and how much they will help us, and I have to ask.....what makes anybody think these guys are going to help any more than VJ? They're still FR, so you think they know defense any better than him?

If this top 5 class comes in here and rides the pine like most FR, we can kiss top 5 classes good bye. Again.

So, why worry about it? There is going to be drama regardless who we sign.

It's in our DNA

I remember early in the season Kentucky having 3 freshmen who couldn't play defense that are now in the sweet 16. There are plenty of programs that would have given him a better shot than he gets here. Transfer!!

That cant be true. You're saying Pitino wouldn't play a freshman that was eating Adel alive on a daily basis? That's just silly

Yeah playing a 15 and 10 seed. Sooooooo hard!
He knew going in that it would be tough to crack the starting lineup.
Kanas, duke, and uofk ALL had one and done freshmen sitting behind non-NBA upperclassmen. .

Yes VJ should have had more PT this year, but he never asserted himself to be a starter.

Youre so green eyed. Just join the darkside with beasley.........

I'm trying to figure out where I said VJ should start. I never once said that nor do I believe he should. I'm just saying he should have gotten more playing time.

I can remember in blow-out games early in the season where he only logged a couple of minutes. Game experience is a valuable teaching tool.

I'm not advocating anything here but he should transfer and I hope for his sake he does. The rest of you can keep drinking the Pitino Koop-aid

No player comes to UofL and expects to play big minutes.

No player. None. Every single person that signs to go to UofL know that you aren't going to be a OAD and 2, most people will play above you unless you just "get it"

He didnt "get it" on defense.

Plain and simple. Why dont you just "get it" and stop posting such dumb things? Name 1 player who was a OAD at UofL?

You guys think he is so upset and mad at the program. But in reality, 95% that's not the case. He showed excitement from the bench, and him and his family also most likely knew that he had things to work on. That's why he chose UofL. To work and stay longer than a year. If he wanted to be a true OAD, he would never have stepped foot on UofL campus.

Wordless, you can't be serious wanting to compare the two guards up the road in kittyland to VJ? As much as I hate 'em it is what it is - and it isn't even close. Maybe their two frosh starters and VJ can't guard my mom between the three of them, but overall game? They're miles ahead of VJ and it has zero to do with playing time this year. They were way ahead of him when they walked in the door up there.

Believe me, I want to see true freshman play and start here - IF THEY DESERVE IT. VJ did not earn it - plain and simple. HE CANNOT GUARD A FENCE POST! Hopefully he'll get better.

Brandon Bender was a OAD under Pitino. After Bender's stellar career in Ukraine he has become a major recruiter/handler similar to WWW for UCF

" The 6-foot-10 Bender, who left the Cardinals as a freshman in 2002 under acrimonious circumstances, transferred to NAIA Robert Morris College in Chicago. He went pro early from there, signing with agent Mike Naiditch. "

It's not about "for his sake." It's all about what's best for the program's sake.

I'm only commenting on what I think HE should do. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. Said nothing about OAD, him starting or playing more than Adel. Transfer!
