VJ King enters name in the draft.

Wow is right...

He isn't hiring an agent though so there is that I guess. And he will have his degree this summer.

Fan denial and oblivious-ness are funny things esp. this time of year...

I predicted this a few months ago and haven't changed my opinion. I said it's 99% a sure thing that Nwora and Enoch were gone, and that it's 50-50 as far as King and Williams. It's a little surprising to me that Williams hasn't announced something because he might be the best NBA prospect on the team.

None of these guys who "test the waters" are coming back, so you might as well prepare yourself. They come to college because they have to. But they wanna be paid to play basketball ASAP. That's their ultimate goal every day of the week regardless of what they say. And they're simply looking for ANYONE to say anything good about them to cement the decision.

VJ ain't worth sweating about anyway, because he's not a good P5 player. You're better off rolling the dice on another grad transfer if Mack can find one.

They each think they have a lottery ticket that's potentially worth millions of dollars. And they're not holding onto it any longer than they have to. It doesn't matter if it's one-in-a-million...

It wouldn't be DUMBfounded by news about guys like VJ turning pro...

People have been predicting VJ leaving here since last year.
As a transfer or a grad transfer.

Not entering the draft.
Props to him staying thriughout the demise of UofL basketball, however he woundnt get drafted if there was 100 rounds.

I wish him well in whatever he decides to do. I really thought the kid had the makings of a super player but for one reason or another, even with three different coaches, he couldn't seem to get a strong footing in college. From someone on the outside looking in, he seemed like a fine young man. Good luck to him.

If you are predicting (hoping and praying) for the worst case scenario you will be right sometimes. It doesn't make a genius. We all know that you fearing that next year's team will be good.

It would be crazy for him not to enter his name, all juniors that have a dream to play in the NBA should do the same. Get feedback and make the best decision for yourself.

Now if Mack wasn't in the loop and found out like the rest of us that isn't a very smart thing to do. That is bad look for VJ. Not that he needs Macks approval, however at least say coach heads up I plan on returning but I am going to test the waters.

I always thought he would be a grad transfer and the way this was released doesn't scream I want to be back. Which is fine, good luck to him.

Mark and Luke seem to think he's getting feedback and will grad transfer.
He could go somewhere and play 30 minutes a game.

Win win for everyone.
VJ gets playing time.
Cards get a scholarship for a Grad transfer point guard.

You consistently don't hear what I say, don't wanna hear it, don't understand it, whatever. And you're not necessarily alone.

When I was saying where these guys were gonna end up now, I got plenty of pushback from optimistic fans. But being a fan and being able to analyze objectively are often two different things. I try to keep them separate as best I can which causes guys like you problems. Sorry, I can't help with that.

Just keep your fingers crossed that you don't hear similar news from Malik in the next couple of weeks. The Spring term is almost up...

I like those guys, but consider the source(s). They sounded almost flabbergasted to hear the news about VJ.

I think there's almost no chance that this is about a grad transfer, although I thought that was remotely possible a couple months ago. This is all about returning to college or not..

The guy averaged 3.9 PPG. Once the draft pool closes let's stack his stats up against all players that stayed in the draft and see how he grades - sound good?

An announcement of this player putting his name into the draft at this time is not a sign "fans are in denial" - it's just really funny.

The guy will have an opportunity to meet an agent, and get feedback from scouts that he needs to work on everything, and they will probably recommend starting with a number change.

To be clear I am rooting for VJ whatever his address is next year!

We all understand the players can now get the feedback I don't think Nwora and Enoch staying in the draft is going to stun anybody. If that does, then those people are indeed in denial.

I am also surprised Williams hasn't put his name in - and I actually agree with the Zipper he is the top prospect, and I actually don't even think it's close. With respect to Nwora and Enoch. And. Giggles. VJ.

"Denial" is a reference to the (way too) many in our fanbase who take this news as a complete shock. Evidently, Mark and Luke are part of that group as well.

The narratives of "he ain't ready" and "where's he gonna go" completely miss the mark. That doesn't even cross the minds of these guys.

As I said...
  • Wanna get paid to play basketball much more than go to school
  • Old enough and getting older while waiting
  • Don't need to play in the NBA to be happy
  • You never know, look at Donnie Utah!
ALL of those thoughts are what are rolling around in their heads. And you're in denial not understanding or admitting that those considerations trump everything else.

The even more amazing thing to me is that fans don't learn from experience. This isn't our first dance...

This time last year (April 6th to be exact) you were so oblivious you listed Deng Adel as returning. You also called Enoch Brian, but, I'll let that one slide LOL

I'm glad to discuss anything...

Malik Williams
Jordan Nwora
Duane Sutton
Darius Perry
VJ King
Deng Adel
Ryan McMahon
Brian Enoch

That's eight guys to form the nucleus of your starters and reserves. And that roster of sophomores, juniors, and seniors

.

No I agree with this, pretty much completely, but....

it's a little embarrassing for a player with a body of work to be putting his name into the draft with an avg of 3.9PPG - I mean it's not stunning since again, he is going to get free advice, but it's still a laughing matter man. It just is.

Notice of allegation will probably help in a 3 of these decisions maybe more.
Another interesting point...

I'm still not too sure everything's out there on VJ King and adidas. It's possible he didn't have a choice about playing any longer at U of L...

They can all do what VJ is doing once (from what I understand). So why not? He might make enough of an impression to get someone to say they'll take him on as a free agent. Lots of money to be made and he might just make it. I wish him the best.

Do you really think VJ is up in the air on what the NBA is gonna tell him about his potential at that level? I don't think the guy's anywhere close to being that stupid or uninformed...

It certainly makes sense for him to “test the pro waters”. It’s the equivalent to going through with a job interview even if you are pretty damn sure you aren’t gonna get the job. You get good feedback, you make connections, you see what you can work on. I see no downside to him putting himself out there right now.

Don't know. Just saying the way the rules are set up, they can all do this 1 time without hiring an agent and still return to college if they wish to. Doesn't matter if it's a walk on. If the player is a junior, then why not? It doesn't cost them a thing.

I don't think VJ is but his inner circle might be, some kids completely trust their inner circles opinion. I am not even sure what he hopes to learn from testing the waters because he nor his inner circle is going too like what they hear.

Out of context, as always.

That was a thread about preseason expectations, and those were the guys on the roster. You were sandbagging for Mack, so you downplayed the possibilities.

For the record, I now call this past year's performance a "good" season, in large part based on who ended up on the roster. That was not what I was saying in that thread, meaning I adjusted my sights.

Congrats to you for your Adel prediction; I don't recall being asked for that, so my roster above wasn't a "prediction".

Keep following me!... :p

Really nice try. You placed Adel on the roster last April. Its not a big deal. But you become a hypocrite when you chastise others for being oblivious when you are "guilty" of the same error the prior season.

It aint context. You put him on this year's team at a time it was obvious he was gone.

Being wrong really hurts you. Hang in there. The greats get it wrong sometimes, I didnt expect much last year and the team gave me more.

I was wrong. Not Deng Adel will be on the team wrong, but wrong!

VJ did not speak with Mack before placing his name in the NBA draft feedback evaluation. So that should tell you he is no longer a Card!

It (Adel) was obvious to you, and I congratulated you for that.

This thread is on the subject of one guy returning--or any of them. The thread you quoted was not specifically, it was about Mack's performance. Find me a thread from last year that discussed/questioned players returning and where I was quoted. I don't recall taking a strong position either way on Adel.

As I said, out of context. And nothing "hurts" me, certainly not in this space. But I appreciate your being sensitive to that...

FWIW, I also expect Williams to test the waters. If his goal is to jump after his junior year, then he needs to go through the evaluation process this summer.

I just don't believe these guys look at things the way we do. History shows that they lean toward leaving early and in the face of what we think is logical.

And Williams looks to me like as good an NBA prospect as we have/had on the roster. I think he's at least the equal of Nwora in terms of true potential.

Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am... ;)

Testing the waters is one thing, but hiring an agent is another. Williams will probably also “test the waters” and I think he should just to find out what he needs to work on. Enoch’s age may be the real deciding factor. And on Nwora it just might be his driving ambition to play for pay. But I’m hoping his dad can convince him to play college basketball for one more year, plus work on is game this summer. With all of this being said, I’m convinced that we have some really good freshmen coming in and am hoping that they will make the difference that CCM and our fanbase are looking for.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

You shared an opinion on what the roster was going to look like and you included Adel on that roster when it was obvious he wasn't returning. It does not matter which thread you were oblivious in. And it is not a big deal that you were wrong - just like it's not a big deal if people were wrong about who is staying and leaving this year.

Your initial response here was "Fan denial and oblivious-ness are funny things esp. this time of year..." so all I am saying is your fan denial and oblivious-ness last year at the same time was funny to me too.

We are laughing. It's okay to laugh at yourself. I guess it's a little more difficult to do in this instance because you walked in to the door calling out other posters for doing something you did yourself the prior season. It's hilarious. Nothing left to add.

Williams is more ready than VJ. Its surprising about VJ because he is nowhere near ready. I could see him xferring but not NBA. I am not even sure he would make G-league. Also possible he has the wrong people in his ear.

VJ is a junior. If he has pro aspirations, he needs to go through the evaluation process once, even if he doesn’t like what they tell him. Next year, he goes through the process again no matter what, but he does so with the knowledge he gained from this year’s attempt.

Something else to keep in mind is that the NBA might not be his goal - at least not initially. The coach who recruited him to Louisville is currently coaching pro ball very successfully in Greece.

No doubt it cannot hurt him to network and go through the process. I think we all agree we hope he does well wherever he is next year and in the future.
