On that 4th and 2 call at midfield in the first half. Think we were up just 14-10 at the time. The call was beautiful, and one I remember from the archives. In brief, all the action in the play was moving left, and tightend slipped out in the flat on the right sideline. Gain of 16 or so yards. Dagger. Remember him running the exact same play against an over-pursuing Miami defense in 2006 with Gary Barnidge catching and running.

All the message board heroes here that claim Petrino has lost his knack for calling plays and running great offense are nuts. Our O-line and youth have made it nearly impossible to be an effective playcaller this year for any coach. Saturday reaffirmed by belief in Bobby M'fing Petrino. Glad he's on our sidelines along with Grantham.

Definitely agree and think CBP will be as potent as ever, but wouldn't get too far ahead based on only Saturday--we were still turning the ball over and making unforced mistakes--& against a much weaker D than we've been facing in recent weeks. Improvements were evident just the same, agree.

It was going to be a transition year in line play even if things had gone a little better and I was one who thought and hope that it would go considerably better than it has (once again, whatever our performance it was against one of the toughest schedules out there).

Isn't every D from here on out going to be weaker than the ones we've faced?
Exactly. And you have to weight the results accordingly. Valid comparisons can still be made, but you have to account for the strength of the opponents and their defenses...

All valid points about the quality of the defense we faced, but the fact remains that the playcalling was simply better. Didn't see BP dialing up some of those plays in the first 6 or 7 weeks of the season.

The 4th & 2 was a thing of beauty huh?

Yeah...no good offensive teams ever face fourth and short, right? 99% of coaches would have punted...petrino had the confidence of knowing a particular play would work. That's why he's an offensive genius.

That 4th and 2 call was a big call and was a defining moment in the game. Had the TE not made the catch, we would have been talking about how dumb it was for Petrino to make that call that early at mid field and up less than a TD. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to see him go for it, but it could have back fired big time. Petrino has always been ballsy with defining moments like that. He believes in himself, and his offense to get it done. I'm sure the kids appreciate the coach having their back.

Don't forget the start and tone of this season and specifically the game against Auburn was started with a crazy halfback pass that could have meant something special if it was successful.

Loved the misdirection on that play call.Love to see more of it.When CBP can line up and do things at will with personnel,it's easier to stay vanilla.Until then or even not, some deception is nice to see.

I remember that play. That is really what you love about Bobby, the confidence. I think the TEs are really starting to come into their own, and the overall play of the offense is really improving.
