UofL QB Brady Allen

No surprise there; somewhat strange when he initially announced entering the Portal, as there was insufficient evidence that he would find himself in high demand without much of a resume.
4th string QB's should be smart enough to realize this. Staying in Louisville won't improve his status -- unless -- he's a really really really, VERY late bloomer. But even then, we may never know.
He has had 3 full seasons with Coach Brohm. I think Jeff knows what he has with him.
Meanwhile, a highly touted transfer is coming to campus, as well as a promising true freshman. They join a RS freshman, and a bazillion year senior who is supposedly starting our bowl game and still has eligibility left. Hard to see a path to the field for him, in my opinion.
But ... Maybe he just wants to be a college student that plays on the football team. Maybe he values a 4 year experience after one transfer. Maybe he wants to coach. All laudable pursuits. And good reasons to stick around.
I'm saying the coaching staff wanted him to comeback or he wouldn't BE coming back.. There's a reason..
So we have our running game pretty much intact.
If the qb can throw ends to keep em honest we may be ok.

This staff carries a boat load of QB's. Last year the QB room looked like this:

It's no surprise that they took him back when he asked.
How do you know HE asked to come back ? And not the other way around ? I'm not saying he didn't, just curious if you know it was him wanting to stay or did the coaches convince him to stay.
No idea.
We do know that when Brohm became our head coach he didn't immediately bring Brady Allen with.
Brady stayed at Purdue for the spring and only came to us after not liking where he was on the depth chart there.
I'm not expecting much from him given his past 3 years. I think he woulda shown something by now.

That could be true about every QB on the roster not name Slough. I didn't go to the spring game last year so I just have to trust Jeff.
I thought Allen may have decided to return when Clarkson decided to leave. I thought that would have made him the favorite to be backup to Moss in 2025 and then possibly grab the starting role in 2026 if JB was unable to grab a better QB in the portal. However, another Site stated this morning that Bailey has a year of eligibility remaining. So who knows?
Brady did himself a favor by returning for the Bowl game, and if he has another year of eligibility, he has a choice to make ……. stay at UL with an excellent chance to compete for a starting QB role, or transfer to a place where he feels like he has a better chance of playing.
I'm thinking JB is covering his bets here. Likely told him he'll get a chance to compete for the starting spot. None of these qbs are really ever a sure thing,to get here or be what JB wants.
Guys, I think you're both off here with Allen having a excellent opportunity to compete for the starting job next season. No way Moss would have committed if he felt he could be beaten out by two dudes who hardly played.
He was a top 3 QB transfer and was obviously what Brohm was looking for. If Bailey or Allen were serious options to start at QB, there's just no way Moss would have committed to Louisville.

Brohm doesn’t play backup’s. And if you don’t play this year, and goes after a top five qb transfer, you ain’t playing next year either.
He doesn’t play bu’s because he doesn’t/can’t trust his defense. Or his defensive play calls. No lead is secure.
But, some would say it’s ridiculous to think JB doesn’t care about defense even if he’s never had one.

You are probably right. I think Jeff will always shop for a proven QB. But crazy money is being thrown at these QBs and its going to keep going up. There could be a year when JB is priced out of the market.
Disagree, I think he probably told them they could compete for the spot and in their mind they think they're good enough to win the position. Moss probably thinks he's not worried about losing the spot to a couple guys that have been here for a couple years and can't even get garbage minutes. Brohm is going to play the best guy regardless of who it is. There's also the possibility of injuries and being the next man up.
I mean if he shows up for practice in reality he's competing for the spot. How well he competes is up to him. Also, Moss could get hurt and at that point it's up for grabs.
We are just like an NFL team today.
Full of paid free agents, and……if our QB goes down our season is phuked as we have no prepared BU.

Well, I do concur with this assessment. In their own minds, Allen and Bailey probably believe they're the better QB, and Moss has to be very confident he's the better QB.
And of course Brohm will tell all three that he will play whoever plays the best.
But at the same time, Brohm is preparing Moss to be the guy even after Bailey's 3 TD performance in the bowl game. Moss had other options and I'm sure he fully expects to be the starting QB.
But anything can happen and I'm sure if Allen tears it up in the spring, he could win the job?
The real question is, can whoever loses the job play DB? ☺️

However, I thought Allen looked very comfortable, despite having very little time to prepare for stepping in for his first start at UL. He missed badly on the early deep routes, before connecting on the one deep TD. In just that one contest, he displayed the poise and command that warrants an opportunity. Remember Allen returned knowing Moss was transferring in, if he believes he can compete, I for one am not going to question his ability to play.
Next year is huge; we need at least 2, if not 3 quality D1 QBs capable of fitting into Brohm’s offense.

You are confusing Allen with Bailey. It was Bailey who started and played against Washington. Allen didn't play.
Allen was the 4th option this season behind Shough, Bailey, and Clarkson. Him deciding to enter the portal was expected and his withdrawal from the portal is a surprise.

I don't know about that. I know Tom Brady is old but I think he still can play
In what limited sample sizes I saw with Allen in the public practices back in the Spring and Fall camp it would kind to say he was even third string. Even in pass skellies he doesn't deliver the football with much authority relative to what even Plummer did when he was here.
