I believe that will put us ahead of IU in total wins, NCAA tourney wins, Final Fours, NCAA appearances……I believe it's time to move UL into 6th place in the all time college bball programs. IU only has UL on national titles but when you factor in all other criteria and being relevant decade after decade UL has passed IU on the all time list.

I agree with this, Indiana has stood still while Louisville has continued to win. Who are your top 5?

There's little if any debate who the top 5 are. UK, UNC, Kansas, Duke and UCLA. Louisville in my opinion is #6 but unless they go on a title streak like three more titles in the next five years, they will not make the top 5. UCLA with it's titles will always be there even though they are beginning to be one of those "older" programs when it comes to today.

Programs like UCONN and Michigan State are right there even though don't have the overall wins.

1. Kentucky
2. Duke
3. North Carolina
4. Kansas
5. UCLA
6. Louisville
7. Indiana
8. Syracuse
9. UCONN
10. Michigan State

The two in the top 10 that surprises me are Temple and St. John's on the all-time wins list.

My top 5 would be:

1. UK
2. Duke
3. UCLA
4. UNC
5. Kansas

I'm a little surprised to not see Michigan, Michigan St, or Ohio St on that top 20 list. And frankly shocked to see BYU up that high.

For most of the last 15-20 years, there has been a consistent and fairly unwavering "Big 6" when it comes to college basketball. I believe Louisville has now cracked that group and supplanted Indiana.

1. UK
2. UNC
3. Duke
4. Kansas
5. UCLA
6. Louisville

I have a lot of trouble ranking the top programs, just because they are so close and we're talking about such a long period of time. How do you rate UCLA's championships vs. other factors, for example?

In the past I always thought of it as the "Elite 6" with 2 tiers: UNC, UK and UCLA on the top tier, Duke, IU and Kansas on the next tier. But really all 6 as Elite programs. The past few years, in my mind, Louisville has moved into that 2nd tier to make it an Elite 7.

I agree it's tough. To me consistent success outweighs titles. Look at UCONN they have 4 titles just like Duke but I don't think anyone would put UCONN up with Duke above Kansas and UL. But on the other hand you got UCLA with all their titles albeit most of them in a 15 year period but you have to put them up there in my opinion.

My list which is probably similar to most is:

1. UK
2. Duke
3. UCLA
4. UNC
5. Kansas
6. LOUISVILLE
7. Indiana
8. Michigan State
9. UCONN

Interesting breakdown:

6 ACC teams (3 former BE teams)
5 PAC12 (1 former MTN W)
3 B12 (1 former BE)
3 B10
1 SEC

2 AAC (1 former BE and 1 A-10)
2 IVY
1 BE
1 CUSA (former OVC/SBC)
and BYU

So the old BE would have had 6 teams to the ACC's 3 teams; with the PAC 12 having 4 before the most recent round of movement. And yet some of the BBN would criticize UofL for having been in easy/soft BB conferences????? Really?

Their SEC brethren are no where to be found either......surprise, surprise.!

But they do have 8 and the conf. has 11 NC's...so there is that. Good on them. Does anyone know how many NC's that the ACC and/or the BE old members have/had?

The AAC Teams with Titles would be Cincy and U-Conn, and unless U-Conn was in the A-10, there is not a team in the current AAC (other than Cincy and U-Conn), that has won a title...Cincy has never been in the A-10...They played as Independents at 4 different times and where in numerous different conferences...Ohio Athletic, Buckeye Intercollegiate Athletic Association, MAC, Missouri Valley (Won 2 Titles), Metro, Great Midwest, C-USA, Big East and now AAC.

The Old ACC
has 12 Titles...UNC-5, Duke-4, NC State-2 and Maryland-1.

The Old Big East (Pre Louisville) has 5 Titles...U-Conn-2, Georgetown-1, Syracuse-1 and Villanova-1

Louisville and U-Conn got another 2 titles for the Big East when they were both in the conference together.

St. John's was a major power back in my childhood (50's and 60's). WKU was #3 in total wins until the 80's. It shows how far you can drop in perception if you don't take care of business.

I was mistaken Am. Male. I completely forgot about UConn.....and was thinking of Temple in the AAC. Mea Culpa.....brainfart. That means the AAC with 2 n all time wins. How could I have possiblly overlooked the UConn victs? I know.....just don't like or respect their program much.....silly me...but they are not on the list for all time wins, Temple is.

The Old BE would account for 11 NC's then if you count 2 for UofL, 1 more for UConn, 2 for UCinn, and 1 for Marquette. (I'm counting cumulative, all time NC's) for all the teams that made up the OBE whille uofL was in it and it broke apart 2 years ago now. Slight difference....but good point on your account.
