Vandeross III is a Junior WR at Toledo; his 12 receptions for 194 yards in yesterday’s win over Pitt was as impressive as any that I have seen this season. Only 5’8”, but displayed the ability to elevate on several acrobatic catches, and his ability to run elusive routes all over the field catch everything thrown at him, was reminiscent of Harry Douglass. In one 4th quarter series he alone had 4 consecutive receptions despite everyone in the stadium knowing that he was the target.

You really think we would “outbid” the BIG or sec for his services?

We can’t compete.

We’re a small market pro franchise.

Someone wrote that securing a player by the portal ends on the 28th. (midnight I presume). Anyone seen or heard anything about a new player(s)? Thanks

That someone is wrong.

Players have until 12-28 to enter the portal.

They can sign any time after they enter.

Honestly, I am not 100% sure as to who, why and how much those that support UL football would pay for any portal candidates.

I am acutely aware that UL is no where close to where most of the P5 college and Universities are in terms of how much funding is available when competing in the Portal, but somehow we have been successful attracting some talented and coveted players that I am being told were being pursued by both SEC and BIG schools.

I would like to say I hope you are right, but paying for college players rubs me wrong.

For us or anybody else.

Totally agree Rollem; just hoping UL can survive this unsustainable period in sports history. Unfortunately we are in no position to withdraw our own participation in this process.

The paying of players isn’t going away. They will figure out how to cap part of it. The problem, there is no way to put the infrastructure in place to properly restrict NIL so it isn’t pay for play. It is such a weird market because unlike NFL players boosters/sponsors/advertisers don’t want anything in return. Just play and win.

Whoever is funding Miami or FSU has and will write more checks even though they pissed it all away. FSU had a historically bad season. Miami bought a roster only to have their 6-8M QB quit at halftime and lose to freakin Iowa State. How do they justify making that investment again with that head coach? They literally got whoever they wanted in the portal and their defense was awful. It is like fantasy land.

I don't like paying for players either, but if we don't do it, we will definitely fall behind everyone else. Now it just seems like a necessary evil. You don't like it, but you do it because you have to.
