out of curiosity, anyone know if he, or even mack, takes a job does their buyout go down? or it that set in stone no mater what they do. sometimes can be based upon future salary.
Well, they were wanting a savior, they got a Pope instead. 🤷🏻♂️
There was a clause for mitigation but don’t know how much. “The buyout is also subject to a duty to mitigate, meaning that if Payne gets another job in coaching, whatever salary he draws at his new job will offset the buyout some”
In Mack’s case the buyout with Mack was less money than his contract had originally but he successfully got UofL to remove mitigation clause.
If any fan base deserves a coaching search heartache, it's those backwoods turds. I just wish this would stretch out another week or two. Pope needs to hold out for about 8 million or more because he will earn it through a shortened life expectancy due to stress.
Obviously both fanbases got a dose of reality. Coaches hires are tricky and there isn’t any special sauce. Coaches in general make decisions on their future based of their current level of comfort and the opportunity their current job presents.
Once a situation at a school becomes uncomfortable they start looking-questioning that situation. At any point a coach thinks a job or their boss hinders their ability to win they either fix the relationship or they leave.
Both administration went for the right people. They both ended up with good coaches. We will see how they both play out.

M.Pope is a avg coach and you can’t convince anyone tell that he was in there top 10. That’s a helluva drop off for the “great kitty cats”. He’ll be gone in 2 years or less.
Complete panic hire. IMO brainfart knew that they had zero chance at Hurley but had to make a pitch so that the fan base could not suggest that he would have agreed if offered.
Drew was the guy he convinced himself that he was going to get. Hope the phone call to him at while at the restaurant from the idiot yut fan - was the final straw.
They went through the top tier guys, but then it looks like they went right to at-large dime a dozen guys. Maybe they realized they were going to get 10 more no's from the Pearl, Beard, Wade group and just decided to end it and hire Pope. It could work out for them. Who knows?

Next, they thought they could money whip a top coach to come because as anyone knows EVERYONE is a whore and no John has more whoring money than UK. Fail.

And, it’s really hard to make someone who is fat and happy, fatter and happier while adding the stress of dealing with unrealistic expectations and a flat out wack-a-doo zoo fan base. But yet, the wack-a-doos were totally surprised, dumbstruck and embarrassed by this revelation.

Pope may turn out to be a good coach. Impossible to say right now. This doesn't look good, however. Looks bad, actually.
brainfart is a holier-than-thou boy scout. Foolishly he would never look in any of those three's direction. To be fair though, I think that the sec does have a current edict against any member school hiring Wade.
All of these coaching searches are simply a huge reality check to fan bases. No one is nearly as important as they think and, money isn't the driving factor for the top guys because they are already making a ton of it.
