He was on Deener's show this morning. Now, he did say it was their back up plan, and they would host round one, but I'm guessing he doesn't have a whole lot of faith in DP and the team today.

Think it's just preemptive measures. He said they had to submit the paperwork before the drawing and stuff just in case.

He also said that it won't effect coaching hire and plans to "bring closure" before April 11th.

Tyra shows everyday what a big thinker he is. An NIT game is $50,000 more in the bank...
Serious question.

Would we net $50k from an NIT game? Or are you including gate and concessions?

I'm thinking if it's on the road, we lose money. Like with a lower tier bowl game.

I was thinking revenue, something like 2,500 tix at $20 a pop. How much ancillary income you gonna make on a few thousand people? Expenses would be much less if it's played at the KFEC.

If we win tomorrow, this guy can REALLY start thinking big! And fire up the Learjet...fanboy's hitting the road again!!

I have to admit that I hate he bothered to say this in public. That's the kind of thing you might do behind the scenes as an AD but you sure as hell don't mention it publicly on the day your team is fighting to make the real tournament. God grief Vince.

He was directly asked I’d they would participate in the NIT if they didn’t make the NCAA.

That fact that he couldn't deflect the issue and firmly say that we have other goals for the postseason is just another glaring example of what a terrible choice it would be to hire this fraud on a full time basis. Could you imagine Jurich having a public discussion about the NIT and filing paperwork for it when the NCAA is still within reach? I'm sure the team appreciates his enthusiam and mentality this postseason.

My take as well. The apologists refuse to see it this way lol. We have some idiot fans for sure.

It seemed to really affect the team yesterday.

What I've noticed about Tyra- he likes to be seen and heard. I don't know if it's his strategy, like, "look at me, I'm working hard," or if he's enjoying the spot light. He's a lot more visible and accessible than Jurich. I'm not saying either approach is right or wrong. Jurich seemed to let his coaches coach, got out of the way, and schmoozed donors up in the suite. Tyra just has a different approach.

That's when you should be smart enough to say something like " well we think we're in a good spot to make the NCAA Tournament so we'll see" but he wasn't.

I think he has to be. One of the knocks against Jurich was he wasn’t visible enough.

It was a pretty logical decision. The schools are basically obligated to play. TJ previously made that decision as well. If it were good enough for TJ, then..,
TJ didn't talk about the NIT while his coach and players were still optimistically talking about an NCAA invite.

Of course, TJ wasn't part of the clown show...

Don’t remember us being squarely on the bubble at this point of the year. Maybe we were sometime in last 15 years.

I'm not sure why you're trying to argue. I've already acknowledged that your guy's a big thinker, and I'm happy he's openly talking about the NIT...

I disagree that this was a big decision. I’m sure Tyra appreciates your support, but it was just a routine matter. TJ made the same decision so there’s no need to assign some higher accolades to VT.

Our last NIT season was 2006. I don't recall being on the bubble then. I felt everyone knew the NIT was going to be our destination. BTW, that team's record on Selection Sunday was 19-12.

I don't understand the outrage. Their was a due date to submit paper work to host a game, so applying to host NIT is a no-brainer. If he didn't do that and we ended up on the road @ Davidson or something in the 1st round because of it, you would have shredded him for fumbling the task.

And it's no secret we are right on the border of not making the tournament. Who is really offended to realize that our AD is actually planning for the possibility of the NIT?

Plan for it, sure. Speak openly about it while our guys are still battling, no. Tyra could use a little PR skills there.

I guess I see your point there. He could have deflected. "Right now we're focused on making the NCAA tournament." I heard the interview live, though, and I didn't think much of the NIT comment. Every UofL fan I know is aware of the NIT situation, and most are pessimistic we will make it to the NCAA, even before the ACC tournament started.

It doesn’t matter what VT said it’s up to the guys on the court. If anything it should have motivated them more to get to the big dance, but they once again cashed it in. I personally don’t think we’re in and that’s on the players. CDP put them in positions to win. Like well the UVA game at home. Not saying CDP was perfect, but had we beat UVA at home and we should have, we’re in.

As far as TJ just when did he have to worry about the NIT? Once maybe in the year we lost 11. And no one thought we were going to the NIT. Everyone and I men everyone thought we were in. Other than that we were in the dance.

Nothing to see here.
