Serious question.Tyra shows everyday what a big thinker he is. An NIT game is $50,000 more in the bank...

I was thinking revenue, something like 2,500 tix at $20 a pop. How much ancillary income you gonna make on a few thousand people? Expenses would be much less if it's played at the KFEC.Serious question.
Would we net $50k from an NIT game? Or are you including gate and concessions?
I'm thinking if it's on the road, we lose money. Like with a lower tier bowl game.
I have to admit that I hate he bothered to say this in public. That's the kind of thing you might do behind the scenes as an AD but you sure as hell don't mention it publicly on the day your team is fighting to make the real tournament. God grief Vince.
My take as well. The apologists refuse to see it this way lol. We have some idiot fans for sure. That fact that he couldn't deflect the issue and firmly say that we have other goals for the postseason is just another glaring example of what a terrible choice it would be to hire this fraud on a full time basis. Could you imagine Jurich having a public discussion about the NIT and filing paperwork for it when the NCAA is still within reach? I'm sure the team appreciates his enthusiam and mentality this postseason.

And others can't see the forest for the trees (or worse, have their forest blockers on...)Some fans like to cultivate issues
I think he has to be. One of the knocks against Jurich was he wasn’t visible enough. What I've noticed about Tyra- he likes to be seen and heard. I don't know if it's his strategy, like, "look at me, I'm working hard," or if he's enjoying the spot light. He's a lot more visible and accessible than Jurich. I'm not saying either approach is right or wrong. Jurich seemed to let his coaches coach, got out of the way, and schmoozed donors up in the suite. Tyra just has a different approach.

For sure. I've been saying Tyra is a big thinker. Planning for the NIT is a prime example. (And he knows who to hang with...)There are real issues. I’m aware of that. This ain’t one of them.
Zing! LOLFor sure. I've been saying Tyra is a big thinker. Planning for the NIT is a prime example. (And he knows who to hang with...)

TJ didn't talk about the NIT while his coach and players were still optimistically talking about an NCAA invite. It was a pretty logical decision. The schools are basically obligated to play. TJ previously made that decision as well. If it were good enough for TJ, then..,

Of course, TJ wasn't part of the clown show...

I'm not sure why you're trying to argue. I've already acknowledged that your guy's a big thinker, and I'm happy he's openly talking about the NIT...

Don’t remember us being squarely on the bubble at this point of the year. Maybe we were sometime in last 15 years.
Back then the barometer was 20 wins to make the dance...Our last NIT season was 2006. I don't recall being on the bubble then. I felt everyone knew the NIT was going to be our destination. BTW, that team's record on Selection Sunday was 19-12.
I don't understand the outrage. Their was a due date to submit paper work to host a game, so applying to host NIT is a no-brainer. If he didn't do that and we ended up on the road @ Davidson or something in the 1st round because of it, you would have shredded him for fumbling the task.
And it's no secret we are right on the border of not making the tournament. Who is really offended to realize that our AD is actually planning for the possibility of the NIT?
I guess I see your point there. He could have deflected. "Right now we're focused on making the NCAA tournament." I heard the interview live, though, and I didn't think much of the NIT comment. Every UofL fan I know is aware of the NIT situation, and most are pessimistic we will make it to the NCAA, even before the ACC tournament started.Plan for it, sure. Speak openly about it while our guys are still battling, no. Tyra could use a little PR skills there.
