You gotta admit, you're kinda getting there. what's not to like about him at this point ?
Not to pick on you but I can't believe this is the depth of why Tyra appeals to people.
The Louisville AD gig is one of the true plums in the AD galaxy. Nation-wide. What makes it even more attractive is that, even in spite of morons at the top, the negotiations through this period of perception challenges for the university are going to be easy. All one has to do is not screw up. And, at the end of this inevitability, suddenly you are a hero in a corporate-friendly, wealthy, sports mad town and driving the bus for everyone..We pay better than anyone, our programs are smashing successes with an improvement arc we are maybe halfway up on. 6 programs had perfect APR's and athletic scholarship far exceeds the achievements of the general student population. We produce more Fukbright Scholars than all the Universities in the state, combined.
While it is nearly impossible not to like the fireplace smile of Tyra, my position is one of more caution and a reminder - the rave above is not to make us feel better - it is the state of the Department. I mention that because I have a hard time believing any available - or perhaps even less available - AD with experience would not walk barefoot over broken glass to get this job.
In other words, what I am saying is that people haven't got the foggiest dam clue about who is available and what they might bring. For so many of us, just having a guy in place was always going to answer a prayer. They perceive it as "moving on" and therefore some kind of legitimately, blanket healthy thing. Too bad, really.
I say we owe it to ourselves to "check the mail". You want closure, great. But to accept that as a bottom line is the path to potential mediocrity. There are talented individuals who are trained for what Vince is having his on the job training for. And not a one of them has ever made what he does, even with his silly "pay cut".
