Tyra, do your da%n job

Jesus Christ fire this guy now and have a meeting with the team. Add Russ Yeast to the list guys transferring. WITMF!

Ok. The reality is someone has to coach the team the rest of the season. Who do you suggest? I'll get lernt for this I'm sure but honestly the only guy who has the experience to do this is BVG and I'm not sure it's even up for debate.

Does it really matter who coaches the last 3 games? More than likely, it is 3 losses regardless. The players have quit. The coaching staff has quit. Players are leaving like rats leave a sinking ship.

This season is already lost, and the program has been set back at least 5 years IMO regardless who is coaching the last 3 games.

It's almost over. Thankfully.

My thinking is to just keep existing players around would be the reason to fire him now.

I've never thought that firing a coach mid-season made much sense but this might be an exception. I think Tyra needs to at least sit down with Bobby and explain to him that he's not being retained and begin working on a buy-out. The team needs to know that change is going to happen to avoid all these transfers.

We keep talking about the buyout, but this whole situation reeks of intentional action. I say fire him for cause and let him sue. We would have pretty solid footing in that court, in my opinion.

The only thing “intentional” is Bobby’s willingness to overlook the incompetence of his relatives.

Drew Deener (it pains me to give him credit) actually made the best argument for keeping Petrino till end season. He said firing Petrino would automatically ratchet up the Brohm to UofL talk while he is trying to coach his team to a championship.

The other thing is that there truly aren’t any great options as interim head coach and as head playcaller. Of course that is only a further indictment of the staff he’s assembled.

Deener stole that bit of rationality from a guest host on Jason Andersons show yesterday

Purdue fired Hazell mid year in 2016. The team was coached by the wide receiver coach and the effort shown by the players went up 10X. They were in every game and I think led most of them in the 3rd quarter but ran out of juice in the 4th. It was definitely a smart choice.

Unfortunately this a different situation. You let Bobby go and I’m sure Nick, LD and Ryan go with him. Hard enough to find an interim HC but now you’re talking about 4 staff positions with 3 games to go.

A) Firing him now means Jeff has to answer uncomfortable questions and could possibly turn down the UofL job before it’s even offered, in order to squash the distractions for his current position. For precedence, see Les Miles to Michigan rumors in 2007. If you want Brohm, bad move to pull the trigger now.

B) Buyout costs more if he is fired before 12/1. I don’t think failing to motivate the players constitutes cause.

C) As others have mentioned, Bobby’s family members might walk out the door with him. This would look bad for future job opportunities for them, but I don’t believe they’ll get many offers anyway, and they know it.

Face it. We are stuck with him. Given Bobby’s past, the buyout in the contact should’ve been weighted toward poaching vs firing, but that’s not the way it was drawn up.

I have lurked here a bit lately for the Louisville perspective. I have seen some good takes, and some bad takes.

I get the impression this guy isn’t joking, which makes it the worst take of all. May the Lord have mercy on you, Tenncard.

Explain to me how the coaching they’re getting is “working”?

We’re 9 games in and we look like kangaroos trying to eff a football.

I’m not sure Clemson or GT could score any more if the coaches had left the stadium.

Logical post...(and I mean that)

Ok, then fire him the second the UK game is over

Maybe, just maybe, Vince has already met with the Brohm team and things are being handled according to their wishes for the smoothest possible transition. Logical heads might actually be in play here. We may just have to wait and see.

No way Petrino accepts anything less than the full amount and why would he?

He probably won't but he might. Think about it from the prospective of a guy who's got loads of money. I know everyone still wants more money no matter how much they have....but...this isn't a 1 year thing. If he were to force UL to retain him, who knows when they would be able to pay his buyout due to how its structured. He knows this place is a disaster right now and at the very least he's going to have to fire assistants and probably all of his family. Does he really want to stay on at UL where everyone wants him gone and suffer through this debacle? I mean, he could stand his ground and keep his staff and just come back, but again, is that a situation you want to be in? He's not going to be able to recruit...he could barely recruit when he wasn't getting fired how's he going to recruit now?

I'm just saying, I do think there's a glimmer of hope that he may agree to a smaller amount because if Louisville actually can not afford to pay him the full amount then he's basically just agreeing to be absolutely miserable for the next few years and again, to you or I...we would absolutely sign up for that for that amount money but to him that might not be worth it.

Let’s see. Our defense can’t be any worse than Sirmon’s... Oh hell yes it can.

Ok. I didn't realize you had that much faith in our D.

But once you get to 77 does it really matter how much worse it is?

If I say we can't fire them now because of how it would look to the Coaching Fraternity, somebody says BS.

If I say fire 'em now, somebody says BS.

I don't know why I'm arguing the point. VT and Griswold are going to do whatever they want, and NONE of us will have any say in it.

Apathy is taking over from disappointment and anger. And apathy is VT's biggest threat right now. That's why he needs to have a plan ready to roll.

When people find other things to do, they may take a while to come back. IF they come back at all.

If he has some say in the matter, every MONTH that Petrino delays his exit is another month he's paid $350,000. With that kinda bread, he could afford to fire all of the family members on his staff and pay their current salaries out of his own pocket.

He won't leave money on the table for any reason. And other than tax consequences, there's no reason for Petrino to wanna extend how long he's paid. It's wishful thinking that Petrino will act in U of L's interests. He ain't getting a statue or banner in his honor anytime soon...

I think it’s possible Petrino would take less than he’s owed for one reason: he doesn’t actually want to be here anymore. If a true and honest negotiation were to take place, Petrino might acknowledge that his heart is no longer in coaching and that the last thing he wants is to fulfill the remaining years on his contract.

I don't disagree with that. But $350,000 per month trumps a lotta of what I "want" otherwise. And that's me speaking personally.

Not to mention, old coaches hang onto the notion of their legacy. If he honestly thinks there's even a 5% chance he can salvage what has happened here, he may well want that chance...
