Trenton Flowers bolts for pro check

Don’t hate on the decision; do hate the timing. C’mon dude; a wasted scholarship that could have been used elsewhere. 😒

How many unprecedented things can happen to Louisville basketball? I doubt this will be last person to do this but he was the 1st at this point in the year. He could have done this any other time and they could have possibly recover but not now.

The reality it is a shot at KP fair or not. You don’t do that for a coach you respect.

Agree 100%. Just a depressing time for UofL bball. No pressure Jeff Brohm

This is what college sports has become, and we ain’t going back to yesteryear. I feel like this kid was searching for another path the whole time. What an amazingly disingenuous statement he released.

Now the question is can this team still get to ten wins? I felt pretty good about it before, but now I’m going to say anywhere from six to eight.

Who knows but this is more a reflection of Flowers than KP. Looks like he took money for NIL already he felt no obligation to anyone. Not to mention the coaching staff and other players. That is a really bad look for the kid and his parents. That is not high character kid because of the timing not the decision.

This was a choice KP made to go young frankly that is a slippery slope with these kids and their handlers. I think it is impossible to do what he is trying to do in this environment.

But, I thought that KO - I mean KP - only recruited high character kids?

What an effing number he has done to this program in 1 1/2 short years…

we suck again GIF

Rumors going around that Flowers wanted and considered himself to be a PG and then was seeing that either wasn't going to happen or was told no. Who the heck knows?

Just that rumors only persons that know what really went on are within the program. As KP stated today he wish him the best . These young men are not making the decisions themselves. I can see for myself reading the tweets from his mom . People just cannot wait NIL not enough for her it seems.

The problem with character is it is impossible to really know anyone’s character until things go bad. Kids and parents are great while things go their way. It is when things go sideways when you really find out about people.

That is KP’s problem he doesn’t understand how to manage the PR part of the job. This Flowers not KP fault but a lot of people blame him. If it is true that Flowers was getting worked by the older players then leaves that is on Flowers and only Flowers. However the media and fans blame KP which is a KP problem. He has the same problem as Satterfield. I don’t think he is going to survive because once you lose the fans and media it is nearly impossible to get back.

If Flowers had strong demands to play PG, was signed but not accommodated, then the HC has gotta take some heat for what just happened.

If it's just a $ grab that's a more gray area. No matter how long you spend recruiting a kid you don't know what they'd do in a situation like this.

We're all speculating but one thing we know for sure, the entire game has changed in ways that make it impossible for us to put the same energy onto it that we used to.

The greed of the NCAA and institutions messed it all up. They should have made these kids employees a long time ago, shared the $, and then you get recruits on a contract not what it is now.

Wait - you’re reading his mother’s tweets?

Sweet baby jeebus…

I recommend any of you that are speculating to go an podcast Eaves show this morning he gave the inside scoop more to the story than anyone knew these local.media.hacks are going to look silly.

Hear it for yourself it's their to listen 790 am yall rather makeup crap then actually get some insightful info from a person that is in the know. They not only screwed KP but Chris Renner ,Mike Vine at Bluegeass Audi also all this went down Sunday nite. They been shopping this kid got NIL and basically went and made a deal that Eaves said the number was substantial.
Eaves didnt sugar coat it either he said if we gonna swim in the big pool with these type of players going forward this is what to expect

This is interesting and you just provided a brief summary that was requested so thanks for doing that.

I am wondering if people that got screwed on NIL will be able to file lawsuits to recoup the $. A lot going on behind the scenes I absolutely agree with the point you are making.

Eaves stated nope because the ncaa doesnt allow NIL contracts .Its a free for all out of control.he said KP and NOlan were blindsided to include those others as Flowers brother didnt report to a enroll in a local school that's the Chris Renner angle . Eaves was a connector.

Sucks we will never get the real 100 percent story from the coaching staff. As a coach cannot talk about the decision to leave as bad. However you can tell by KPs tweet he wasn't happy whatsoever.

it's the state of college basketball. pay to play.

Flowers made it clear he was a one and done. probably realization that he wouldn't have averaged over 10 points a game this year. so he panicked and took the money.

The staff can’t come out and bash Flowers. They have to deal with it and move on. This is the Flowers crew making a decision and screwing the staff. Rarely does this work out for the kid when parents make all their decisions for them.

If he really wasn’t killing it in the pre season workouts why is going to Australia playing against men a good idea. I get why they did it but I doubt he ends up in the Lottery.

It is always going to be a problem when you have loser parents who are relying on their kids to make enough money to take care of them. I guess we need to start vetting the parents and looking at their backgrounds before signing a kid.

CBB HC doesn't have any leverage with the highly coveted players. If you are "lucky enough" to sign 'em you need to cater to their every demand. If you are unwilling to give them what they are seeking, don't sign them, unless you are a sustained T5/10 program with depth and a confirmed winning brand, which UofL no longer can say they have.

Even if you do roll over for the kid, you still could have something like this happen in August or even during a season like down the road with Sharpe.

I believe you follow the $ in this business. You got to be aware of what a kid's support system is saying. If a player or handlers are telling you they are trying to get to the NBA as fast as possible is it worth the pursuit?

If the handlers and/or family are heavily involved and have any demands, or if you can't guarantee them what they are seeking, you probably just need to move on and not sign the player.

It's a double edge sword my man then you end up with a team of limited talent. That might over achieve if your lucky but cant count on it. And the fanbase is pissed because of the lack of high end talent. I hate this happened but imop i rather keep going after the high end talent. Heck with this NIL transfer crap the lesser players are demanding things also. We see that already here.

I prefer the pretty girls yell they come with more demands and issues but they sure are fine.

I get what you are saying but I do believe you can win at this level without the high end HS recruit. It's a great conversation to have - how to build a D1 team in this era. The previous Final 4 didn't push any high end HS players at us. It was 4 teams built on mostly experience with a few transfers here or there. It's just one season. KU won the title the year before without 5* action also.

Duke/UK get a head start every year but if the 5* hit was the only way to win then they would be trading turns winning titles and make the F4 most ever year. But this is not what is happening in March.

I'm not saying eliminate chasing the high end guy, but they really need to do all their due diligence and take a hard look at the list of demands/requests/requirements a player has. If a kid is telling you he needs to play PG to jump to the league, you gotta accommodate him or don't bother bringing him in.

Mgbako gave 'em the middle finger and now so has Flowers. So right now they are not winning these lotteries. Maybe one player in the future can offset these losses. But a lot of time was put into those players and it blew up in their face.

Just my opinon it's a good conversation.

We will see what happens on his next class as they are in on alot of high end talent.Edwards is a high end guy albeit not a one and done but he is listed as a 5 star type guy. I still prefer NBA level talent guys as getting lower development guys to stick around year year is almost a thing of the past.

Mich St is a trend title pick and they return pretty much their entire roster losing only one SR. Purdue is returning the same roster too. Even Duke is returning a lot of starters and has a SR PG.

I totally see where the landscape is with the portal and NIL. Kenny was able to retain the players from last year's team most fans wanted. Let's not fast forward our lives, but.... it will be interesting to see how many return after this season.

It is a tough environment for a HC no doubt. We will probably see musical chairs in the F4.
