Ticket sales -2.4 million

This is the next frontier of setting the record straight... Assigning blame at U of L.

The media and current U of L regime will have everyone believe it's about the PRIOR U of L regime. And they will simply assume that cause-and-effect and that everyone else will believe it. It will become our job to correct that impression because they won't have any hard data behind their conclusions...

I don't Padgett is doing just fine.
And he's earned the right to be interviewed for the permanent spot. Should he be hired however - season ticket sales will absolutely take another hit. People realize that no recruits of any value are coming in next year and though he has done a decent job as the interim - there is no excitement surrounding Padgett as the permanent guy - game attendance tells that story all too abundantly. The main way to regenerate / jump start the excitement around the program again is to make a home run hire for the next coach. People that don't see that are absolutely fooling themselves.

Be careful for what you wish for. If the powers to be are still in place, you won’t get that home run hire you desire and it’s likely they won’t have any ties to U of L and will only be here for the money.

I don't think ticket sales is the proper gauge on Padgett... Too many confounding factors to cleanly make that connection. It's more a program issue as far as basketball, but I'd argue program support is a U of L management issue. That's the only way to explain, for example, why women's basketball attendance is down. People are voting on the U of L administration with their feet, as they should...

Well there’s no correlation between ticket sales and Padgett this year to be sure and, it wasn’t my intent to suggest there was. Where there is a correlation I believe is attendance. Attendance is IMO is going to go down should Padgett be the permanent guy, because - at least up until now - he doesn’t excite the fan base. We need a home run - Padgett is an infield hit.

Jurich said so much in an interview yesterday. Keep thinking that Vince. I’m in a tough spot. Do I keep my FB seats or let them go? I’ve got great seats but if this doesn’t change it won’t matter. So, I may sacrifice the seats. Complete mindset change for me.

First, I've done this analysis many times for myself over the years... Normally, it's about what you're risking and saving; it's best viewed now as trying to keep money out of U of L's pockets. If you have made a major upfront donation for either a football license or basketball season tickets, you should probably continue to pay that down and renew annually. The only exception might be if you just started, e.g., first year in a five-year payment plan.

If you're a football season ticket holder with no upfront donation--just annual--you need to see how easy it is to buy seats in your section. If it's not easy, you might as well keep them because U of L will sell what you turn down to someone else anyway. Otherwise, if you're in the upper reaches of the UPS flight deck, for example, drop them. They're too easy and inexpensive to get there.

Without an initiation fee, my advice for just about all basketball season ticket holders is drop them. The arena will have thousands of unsold seats for most games indefinitely. When you consider how much you pay for some of the rinky dink teams we play each year, it's a no-brainer nowadays to only buy tix for the games you want and try to sit where you want.

For the other sports, I wouldn't change anything. We're not talking about enough money for it to matter. But don't be afraid to become a buy-along-the-way fan. I've done that in basketball since we moved downtown, and I've saved literally thousands of dollars. Before it was to get the best seats I could for what I was willing to spend. Now it's to keep as much money from U of L as possible...

I have had season football tickets since the old Cardinal Stadium days and have also purchased a mini season ticket package for women's basketball the last few years. With yesterday's news my wife and I are now reading between the lines and discussing the possibility that we will not renew either next year.
I have absolutely no confidence in Dr. Postel as President and recognize Grissoms intelligence and track record but am not convinced that there not is an agenda at play here. I typically wouldn't buy into conspiracy theories and fully understand that Frankfort is pro UK but I am paying close attention and will spend my money accordingly. It would be with sadness that I no longer support the University financially but I will not be duped by people who do not have the best interests of the University and city as their primary goal.
(Fair disclosure: I have family members who retired from the medical school and others that have received undergraduate, JD and Masters degrees. I am 100% Louisville loyal )

All good points. Dropped my BB tickets 3 years ago because of all the funky dink teams. I attend plenty of games but the ones I want and can attend. I always find good seats. But I’m in section 206 for FB on the 45 yard line. Great seats. Normally there’s no movement in that sections. Will see this year.

I’m with you. My brother, my wife, my son and daughter and myself have all attended UofL. Still tailgating with close friends from UofL. It’s become a great tradition, but now it seems to all be in jeopardy. Very sad.

Attendance has nothing to do with DP.

Louisville fans like winners and contenders. Always have. Lose those elements and they do something else.

Spoiled? Of course. But you let Alabama go downhill and watch their attendance fall.

When they fired TJ a LOT of people saw/see a sinking ship...and they’ve jumped. There are not as many “die hard” fans as people think. We, had n this board, have surrounded ourselves with other of like mind.

Our biggest worry is about the “casual” fan showing up in good times and weather.

And now they see bad times coming.

If Pitino was still the coach -attendance would be better - Bowen situation or not. Buying into your premise of fans coming to see a winner - pitino is a better coach, so the record would be better = better attendance. To suggest that there is no correlation between attendance and the HC is silly.

Like it or not we are still in crash and burn phase of what Pitino and Company did to us. Once the uncertainty is dealt with and we know what we are facing then we can actually start digging out of the rubble. We can stabilize and move forward. We are not even in ICU at this point. Do I have concerns about the people who are supposed to rescue us? Sure but there is no way any rational person can blame them for the mess we are in. Blame them later if they screw up our rebuild but don't blame them for Pitino's sins.

This is totally wrong. Crisis management is a skill that we should expect out of our BOT and anyone in an appointed leadership position at this moment. You jump into the middle of it, own the situation, plot a course out, convey that, and drive to that end. Yes there will be more fall out but there is a big difference in dealing with the waves to come and having seemingly nobody at the helm. At this point it seems that the University is listless at best if not being managed in a manner that is not in its own best interest.

The BOT and the President are not accountable for problems others have caused, they are FULLY accountable for how they respond to the problems and any ramifications therein. My fear is that until there is a fundamental change in the top job in Frankfort...there are many who are happy to see this university atrophy. The commonwealth is going to feel the ramifications of this poor mindset for years to come.

Padgett has been handicapped in the recruiting realm because U of L hasn’t put their confidence in him and the sanctions may be coming. It isn’t his fault. He can’t recruit anyone if he doesn’t get the nod from the university. No one will commit if their whole staff that they committed to is gone.

Then color me silly.

I quit going because of Pitino. Not necessarily Pitino really, but his terrible OOC schedule. He couldn't help having a good record in January. You could have if you were coaching against that schedule.

Pitino had head scratching loses every year. And we'd only be playing 6 people because of defense and mistakes.

To say he'd have a better record now is not silly, but it is totally subjective.

Yeah, 3 or 4 major scandals within the basketball program and the office of the President of the university in less than 5 years will do that to you. Once again, none of that is Frankfort's fault or the fault of the BOT. Put the blame where it belongs and not with the clean up crew responsible for fixing it.

Tim Sullivan calls 'em a "clown show". Guess that same term can be used for some of our posters...

Subjective perhaps but based upon years and years of actual evidence.

I agree with the ones who are concerned about the people running the show right now. I don't feel good with Postel, Grissom and Tyra running the show. I really don't believe they have the best interest of the university in mind. To me this feels more like a political takeover instead of a business dealing.

The amazing thing to me is the number of people content to have this $hit show go out and hire a permanent basketball coach. Or to have the new AD hired by the same $hit show make that hire.

Stupid is as stupid does...

So, your solution is to have the shit show hire an unqualified coach on a permanent basis? On what level does that make sense?

The proper way to handle this would be to fill the top spot( Presidency) as the positions that follow (AD and Men's Basketball Coach) will report to that President. It is very basic and I guarantee you that Grissom would not allow this type of hiring practice in a business organization. That is why so many suspect a pre-determined agenda is slowly being rolled out to the public.

My solution is to be careful trusting these clowns to do anything. And I think most people agree with that now.
Chris Mack is not an "unqualified coach" !
He's talking about someone the clowns would hire...

I don't disagree, but that ain't the process. So you don't rush the coaching hire...

Keeping Padgett isn’t making a decision - it’s the avoidance of it.
And that's exactly what we want the clown show to do. I think you and I are again on the same page...

I’m never going to choose avoiding making a decision - particularly when I think that act causes more long term harm than good. Why not wait until we see who / what the choices are - before making a judgement? I promise that if the choice is between kenny payne and DP - I’ll cheerfully side with Padgett - just as I hope that if the choice is Mack or DP - you’ll make the wise choice and side with Mack.

Hey Ghost, I’ve got a suggestion. Since CDP is on trial here to be apparently even “considered” why don’t we apply similar requirements on Mack, like he needs to win the Big East tournament or how about not even winning the NC but making the FF. If he can’t do that, with the talent he has and all that experience..
Are those expectations any different than what you’re expecting from Padgett in his situation?

I am not pushing Mack but he has a track record over a reasonable period of time you can judge him by. There is no reason to say he must be judged on just this season. The situation with Padgett is much different.

Why is what Padgett does with this team and players is so different than what a coach does somewhere else with other players? Mack’s not bringing his entire roster with him is he? For those with eligibility, they have to sit out a year. Whoever’s brought in will be a transition, unless you want to tear everything down, you try to minimize the impact as much as possible for players and for fans.
