The simple reality is...

Side note - the discussion around here has been really great. I'll be honest and say that watching UL sports became a chore over the last few years, it wasn't fun anymore and it was hard to care. I woke up today excited to watch Louisville play Duke on national TV on a Thursday night.

Speaking of Thursday nights....remember when Louisville on TV during the week (Tue, Wed, or Thu) seemed almost a weekly occurrence? Louisville was sort of "America's Team" there for a while, not that everyone was a fan but everyone was watching. It's cool to watch them tonight on a Thursday again.

All the points people are making are valid if the overall program was seeing all the things people freaked out about. I was one of them. He made his job tougher than it needed to be. However at this point people are still mad even though none of the things happened. Players didn’t leave, you could argue new assistants are better, play is better against better teams and recruiting is as good as it has ever been.

This fanbase is really strange when it comes to coaches and college football reality.

Scoring 62 points on any conference opponent, and gaining Bowl eligibility is reason to put aside criticism of Satterfield. I have to remind myself that it is possible to argue that aside from a few plays ……. this UL team could be 9-2 heading into the UK game.

The announcers made a few good points last night. It's a big if, but if Malik returns next year they claim the offense returns everyone. That's quite a big deal. If Malik returns this team is going to begin the year fringe T25. Not sure what he's pulling on NIL, or what his plans are. He may not know his plans right now himself.

The D took so many injuries get a few of those guys back, a shut down corner that was looking all-conference, and yeah even Satt himself might actually WANT to be here, maybe looking to make NEXT year his springboard.

Satterfield pursued the job without the courtesy of even notifying his boss in advance.
imho, no one notifies their boss they are trying to leave. and to your point of affecting everyone else, that's not his concern, his is hsi family, job and his life, it's everyone else's fault for not understanding how things work in coaching. if you think at any moment your coach is tied to your city it's your fault for having expectations of someone and a position where there should be no expectations. we hired a guy moving up the coaching ladder and lousiville is and forever shall be a rung on the ladder, not the top spot so any coach here who has any success will always interview for a better job. fans fault for expecitng something different and simple math says Happiness = Reality/Expectation. no expectations means you are infinitely happy. stop expecting coaches to behave they way you want. if you had a chance at another job you would let anyone know either, problem is too many snoops today to find out whereas 20 years ago no one ever knew

Glass: my point was not about Satterfield, or for that matter any coach needing to justify their career decision to the players, fans, etc; rather it my effort to show the contrast between a college coach‘s impact on so many people versus what any one in business might have.

I cannot, nor would I try to speak for all situations; however I know firsthand that Schnellenberger alerted Bill Olson on his plan to leave UL if the school ever agreed to join a conference in football, and Howard himself went public the day he heard from Oklahoma. Additionally I was aware of the exchange between John L Smith and TJ at the time MSU reached out to John L’s agent wanting permission to discuss their opening, No firsthand knowledge, but I believe Charlie Strong told TJ that Tennessee had reached out to him as well as his intentions to interview with Texas as soon as those offers were presented.

There is no down side to alerting the AD that an employed coach is pursuing another job, and I suspect it is a common courtesy in that particular profession. Conversely, my business experience would indicate that is not the case with most corporate departures..

Cowherd says it best in this tweet about another program. Although Satt trying to leave makes it a bit different, point remains. This program isn't where it was in 2012-2013. It isn't the team Lamar carried it to in 2016, because we don't have Lamar.

Not saying Satt is great or should be here forever. But, the issue Bobby left us with was depth, recruiting balance, and culture. Satt has the base with all the first and second year guys. Lets just see it move forward a bit. And if in 1-2 years he still isn't the guy? Well it'll be a more attractive job with a better roster and we'll have shown we'll give a coach 4-5 years to build. Firing him after year 3 would make people hesitate. Not to mention we don't have the money to buyout another coach to fire and then go get a Jeff Brohm type if we're being honest.

No one loves Louisville more than Brohm.
