The Courier is a ginormous piece of garbage.

What evidence do you have that they aren't guilty? The innocent until proven cliche is asinine in this circumstance.
Remember, Zipp. I was fighting the good fight with you on the MB, prior to these FBI allegations.
Well, let me put it this way... Lack of evidence--which is where you are--doesn't mean or even suggest evidence to the contrary. You're reaching.

I heard a retired FBI agent talking on Friday about the complaint that involved Pitino as "Coach-2". He said two things... There was nothing in that filing that implicated Pitino. And if the Feds had anything on him, he would have been put in handcuffs.

Pitino hired another guy who broke rules, and for that, he lost his job. (I think the first guy--McGee--was really too stupid to know he was breaking rules...) I have no problem with that. But if Pitino didn't know anything, there's no way in hell Jurich knew anything.

Anything else you're believing, you're just willing to believe. You have no proof of anything. And there's no way Jurich should be close to losing his job.

As far as your help anywhere/anytime, thanks but if that's your attitude, don't bother. I'll do fine...

Honest question, just curious. Zipp, considering the wait and see approach, do you believe that Brian Bowen should be allowed to play by Louisville as of right now, given what we know? If they had a regular season game tomorrow, would you play him?

Not zipp, but the answer is NO. Too many potential issues to allow him to play. Even though he may not have known that his “dad” took the 100K he’s been put in a horrible position. Perhaps the IMG Academy in Florida could use him. Or maybe he should head to China to play for pay.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Yeah, I doubt very seriously that Bowen didn't know even if there isn't documented evidence. I mean, there are some things I'll accept on faith.

The only thing Bowen was jeopardizing was one year in college that more and more of these OAD kids are considering ways around anyway.

If Bowen was at a school that had no prior issues and this came up, the school would have some wiggle room. That ain't U of L...

Look - Zipp and Commodore won't even try to defend their position because they have nothing to defend. They have nothing to defend. They are as articulate and knowledgable as the victims of the 1960s hippie drug counter culture.

That's cute. I don't even know what that is supposed to mean.

I am glad Pitino is gone, I thought he should have been shown the door after the Powell scandal, even if he was cleared of "not knowing" by the NCAA. The Karen Sypher incident was personal. Thousands of men across this country cheat on their wives and are forgiven and given second chances. Maybe you can be so judgmental because you are faithful, or you are not actually human, but a higher deity, perhaps?

Pitino was always larger than the program. Those of us who grew up in this area know what its like. 70 miles Northwest of here we saw it unravel with Bobby Knight at IU. It's great to have an iconic head coach, but they always become bigger than the program itself, that is never good. In Penn States case with Joe Paterno, it became downright creepy..

Jurich, should be given his due process. Of course it's easy to see how much he is paid. Everyone knew it, why are some people mad about it now? Why does it matter now? Jurich has ran 21 clean programs. I don't fault people for being loyal but Jurich stuck his neck out too much for Pitino. Lesson learned. I have met Mr. Jurich a handful of times and he is a great guy. He called me by my first name. Stopped me in the hallway of the Superdome during the 2012 Final Four and called me by name and said it was great to see me in NOLA. I was stunned. I'm sure there are people who he rubbed the wrong way, and those people are out in droves with their grinded axes waiting for a moment like this.

Mark it down. If Jurich is let go, it will only a few months until he is hired at a big time program....Nebraska, Colorado, Tennessee, Miami, etc. He will get hired. And we will be left with the smugness of a few that ran him off and wished him ill-will.

From the Courier Journal 10-18-17: U of L's willingness to pay Jurich, Ramsey, and presidential staff far more than their peers, while intentionally underpaying the College of Arts and Sciences - "highlights a fundamental hypocrisy in the decision making processes of those in power." Dawn Heinecken, U of L Athletic Association Board.

So it's bad when people make large salaries for a job well done? Are you a Socialist? Louisville should compensate someone for the same salary as a Memphis or Western Kentucky? Is that what you are getting at??

You haven't been clear through this whole thread. Are you just calling people names and arguing just for the sake of arguing? What is your agenda??

And you quote the Courier Journal. That's precious. :)

That statement comes from a member of the U of L Athletic Association Board, Dawn Heinecken. Stay tuned. More is coming.

Pins and needles

I looked at Miss Heineckens ratings on Rate My Professor. Below average at best. Lots of "poor and awful" ratings. Not a favorite of the students.

I bet she has an ax to grind with everyone.

I think the point was it was a member of the board that is supposed to be setting the salaries and paying out bonuses that is questioning where the money went.

Which isn't the official rating system, just an online rating system that tends to be utilized by those with an ax to grind. Only 20 people have even rated her on there.

You ain't getting any attaboys here quoting the CJ as an objective reference. That's a joke.

Find a better source, and come back to see us. If the problem's as obvious as you think, there oughta be plenty of sources with comparative data...

Zipp - that’s not fair. There no way eatwood will be able to do that - not with Jurich controlling the media.

Yes, the CJ is a biased and outdated medium. And yes, they are currently perpetrating a massive smear job on Jurich and Pitino. Having said that, it IS one the bigger stories in sports recently and it is simply smart to capitalize on the story being at their front door by providing content that is going to be picked up and circulated all over the country. Can't really blame the source for UofL being THE story right now.

We all realize the CJ is basically a liberal demokraut rag. Having said that, at times they have done some decent and telling investigative work, and the U of L scandal appears to be thoroughly researched. This is a rather shocking story. From Martin J. Greenberg, a Milwaukee lawyer who teaches sports contract law at Marquette University: Jurich was "extremely richly paid. He has a lot of compensation vehicles that are unusual." One of the benefits: Making some compensation tax free by "grossing" it up, or essentially paying the taxes for him. This was a $1.6 million benefit to him in 2016.

If the CJ is doing "decent and telling investigate work", then please point me to where they are comparing all this to other AD's and universities? And make sure that comparison includes something other than a "CJ survey" for data points.

I’ll bet that the quality of their “investigative work” correlates directly with whether you agree with the conclusion.

There won''t be an agreeable conclusion and it will likely get much worse as the FBI and NCAA investigations roll out.

I can count on one hand the quality examples of CJ "investigative work" re. U of L. That's the discussion here...

End of the day, I don't think the alphabet investigative agencies care how much anybody makes. Even the IRS, as long as they got theirs from someone.

The Justice department will charge those caught in active bribes.
The NCAA will decide whether to dig its own rabbit hole into paying players.

The folks of Louisville and the State of Kentucky will have to determine what if anything else to clean up as who got paid what.
