The Championship playoff is officially in trouble now.

It's in trouble and probably on the endangered list.

The reason being is that we're only 3 games into the season and Notre Dame is already out of contention. The powers that be that always ensured ND got a BCS bowl, or a bowl much better than they deserved have no power over this and will never let it stand.

3 years of playoffs and no Notre Dame yet? Totally unacceptable.

Nuck Fotre Dame. Glad to see them finally having to earn something more than what they actually accomplish.

Whatever ax you're grinding has nothing to do with U of L since ND is and has been one of our best partners for more than a decade now.

Notre Dame bashing is for U of L fans who have no vision and who don't understand how we got where we are and who was an ally in us getting there. It's about more than football even though football drove the bus. If ya don't get that, frankly, ya don't really know beans.

Notre Dame will just take a nice bowl away from a more deserving ACC team whether they have a worse record or not. Awesome, best, wonderful partner or not, it stinks.

Um, ok. I like Notre Dame just as much as anyone. I have been to at least 50 home games and 15 away games, 2 neutral site games and 2 bowl games. Only time I've rooted against them in ND Stadium was when Louisville played there.

I can understand your loyalty to them but you act like Louisville and other ACC football programs should take a back seat to them. Notre Dame football looks out for itself and only itself. The other sports programs I can see to play nice with, for they are within the ACC.. football is a total other institution and Notre Dame got a sweet deal just like they did in the Big East and it's not fair to other ACC football programs who get bumped out of a better bowl.

So yes, I do get it. I think "ya" need to get your head out of your backside. The only one that got us into the ACC that I appreciate is Tom Jurich. Duke and Syracuse helped us get into the ACC as well, do you love the Devils and Orange as "ya" do the Irish? ;-)

This arrangement is an infinitely better arrangement than what the Big East had. Notre Dame earns their fair share by playing 5 ACC teams each year. That relationship is helping to make the ACC network a reality. It's also going to ensure that the ACC network will be added by cable systems in Indiana - something I am VERY happy about, naturally.

Bottom line here is that the ACC wouldn't do it if it wasn't a very good deal for its members.

Thank you Push Up.. Mr.Coach seems to take the high horse route in his explanations.

Or, for people who don't like Notre Dame. Like me. Possibly the snottiest fans north of UVA.

ND needs to get all in a conference or all out.

Until then screw them . Even Bama has to play 8+ conference games
to get to the playoffs. Why is ND so special.

Don't you get it? ND is special because they helped Louisville. Well, according to some around here...and we should take a back seat to them for them graciously doing that.... ;-)

I think ND did help us and for that I am grateful as a Card fan. But, times have changed, ND administration better wise up and go "all-in" with the ACC! Their season is officially over and it wouldn't be if they had a shot at an ACC conference championship. The way I see it, it's their loss!

Fact is that ND has a better chance of getting to the 4 team NC playoff as an ACC member than as an independent. Especially since there is a perceived/actual preference to favor the conference champions for selection (which already leaves out one of the P5 conferences, albeit unfairly). Put ND in the Coastal and let it win its way into the ACC championship game and then the NC playoffs. I could see ND being left out of the 4 team NC playoff even if it was undefeated if its strength of schedule was lacking that particular year -- being passed over for a 1-loss conference champion. Who knows but why take that chance?
BUT there is a fierce independence amongst the ND fan base and they are currently fine with having a harder road to the NC as an independent. Its administration will have to make that change and knows that it is coming sooner rather than later. And it will be the ACC. Now if only the Big12-2 screws up before then and lets us grab UC as the 16th team.

TImes have changed, but not enough just yet. Notre Dame makes $10 million dollars more per year from their media deals than anybody in the ACC makes. Until that changes, you won't see them looking to join a conference. Maybe if at some point they have a great season but are snubbed because they only play 12 regular season games, then you might see a change. But even then, it would have to make just as much financial sense as it does college football playoff sense. I don't see either of those two things happening in the near future.

I don't worship at ND's feet. But let's also not forget that in principle, the ACC's bowl tie-ins are helped by the prospect of those bowls landing ND every once in awhile. We can deny all we want the value of that to the ACC...

Don't forget FSU and Clemson they pushed to get us in.

I am no ND fan. But to ignore the political influence they had in helping us, is seriously stupid. First off, the Duke AD at the time we were voted in TJ met while he worked for ND. Secondly, you know that given their preference to work with the ACC, that ANY kind word about us from them carried a lot of weight.

As far as ND "going all in" on a conference ... they value their independence way more than missing the playoffs in an instance like this year. IF .. IF they run the table, and go 12-0, and are somehow snubbed by the committee, THEN ... MAYBE ... they consider it. But that would be extraordinary, especially considering they will have play 5 ACC schools, USC, Stanford and someone else with pedigree (this year Texas, other years it will be another blue blood type).

Frankly, I don't think I'll see Notre Dame go "all in" on conference membership in my lifetime (I just turned 47, and plan on living another 53 years haha). They like the way they are. And they know a thing or two about winning national titles. As far as they are concerned, they need to run the table to have a chance .... and if they fail to do so, they don't think they deserve a shot at a national title. They WON'T sacrifice they're status as a football independent just because they lost 1 game, and didn;t get into the playoffs. That just doesn't move the needle with most of them.

With respect, I don't see gratitude and/or loyalty as concepts with an expiration date. Kind of reminds me of West Vagina.

ND is a great ally, a reasonably short drive between us for ACC Conference games in 21 sports, and a school I'm proud to have as a partner.

I don't begrudge them for their storied history and success that has given them a special place in college football. I applaud that and am happy for our association. If they EVER take a bowl spot away from us, it's because they earned it.

And sooner or later, they will join the ACC in football. To borrow a phrase, "The only variable is time."

I'm not loyal to them and have never been a fan of Irish football unlike you it appears, but they are an ACC member in every other sport and we will play them semi-regularly in football. That's the relationship that's building another addition to PJCS and lends cred to our program by association. It's not about needing an escort into the ACC because we earned it but we had important relationships that sealed the deal and ND and FSU were among them.

That has been enough for a non-ND football fan to get over their special status in one sport (which is literally no big deal and increases the ACC's gravity overall in bowl negotiations). I wouldn't mind if they joined full ride for football but it just doesn't bother me and whining over mid-tier bowl rights is beneath us. We are here to compete for championships.
