Five quotes from Steve Spurrier's surprise last minute press conference

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier called a press conference at the last minute to address some things that have been on his mind. It was so last minute, the Head Ball Coach had to hold it outside some elevators in the team facility.

Those who suggested this could be a retirement announcement could not have been more wrong. Spurrier came out shooting hate-filled verbal arrows through his "enemies," which include Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Atlanta-based media and anyone who thinks he is nearing the end of his career.

1. Spurrier is not retiring: Spurrier said that when South Carolina was winning 11 games, no one questioned his age, but after a 7-6 season there are "enemies" who think Spurrier "can't do it anymore."

Spurrier: Nobody said anything when he was 69 and they were 11-2. Now at 70 and 7-6, "enemies" are chirping.
Spurrier not happy with recent comments that he's on a "descent." "I plan on coaching a long time."

2. A response to Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson: With a 1-0 record against the Gamecocks, Watson told fans he plans to keep that record perfect while he's suiting up for the Tigers. Spurrier, holding a 6-4 record against Clemson that includes five straight wins from 2009-13, offered his retort.

Spurrier talks about DeShaun Watson saying the #Gamecocks will never beat him. Says they are looking forward to it.

3. The "enemies" in Atlanta: Columbia's primary newspaper, The State, ran a piece from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Mark Bradley that was critical of Spurrier. The coach not only was upset at the hometown paper for running the article, but dismissed the opinions of the Atlanta-based writer.

"Enemies that write in the Atlanta paper that cover the Bulldogs"
Spurrier: Says media who don't want to see #Gamecocks succeed are enemies. Says he won't address it in future. Hopes recuits don't believe
Spurrier: He's upset with The State running Mark Bradley's piece. Says the paper shouldn't have let him have say.

4. The impact of the hate on recruiting
: Now we get to the possible impetus for this address. Spurrier suggests that the media's talk of his decline has impacted the Gamecocks on the recruiting trail. The timing of this presser now makes sense as 247Sports notes that a big recruiting weekend is coming up.

Spurrier: Says media who don't want to see #Gamecocks succeed are enemies. Says he won't address it in future. Hopes recuits don't believe
"Last year a few recruits chose to believe what they were saying"- Spurrier #Gamecocks

5. An artist who wants to review his work
: Spurrier closed the press conference asking the reporters gathered, "What time is it going to be on the news? So I can go home and watch it."
