Plays UK tonight at Ulmer.
Per my insider sources. our softball team was not supposed to be very good this year. I heard the phrase "long year" used on more than one occasion preseason, as we are rebuilding while entering a tougher softball league. The season started out as expected with Cards fighting in every game, but losing as many as they won.
But then, some magic began. A few young ladies started ripping the ball, and a couple underclassmen began giving meaningful innings on the mound, and now the team has won 6 straight, only lost a single game over the last few weeks, and surprisingly sits atop the ACC. Tonight will be a stern test for this young team.
UK was supposed to have its best team in quite awhile, highly ranked just 1 year after a great postseason run. They just finished taking 2 out of 3 from LSU, who was ranked #1 in the nation going into the weekend. So the Lady Cats are obviously legit.
If you've never attended a Cards Softball game, tonight is a great opportunity to do so. First pitch is at 6 pm. Weather will be awesome. I'm planning to attend football practice, then head over from there. Tickets are $5 at gate, and should be really nice crowd. Or you can do what I do, bring a small cooler & chair and sit on the outfield berm. It's free there, and the view much better than baseball because you are 100 feet closer to plate.
