RCS Miami: Five teams that should be pleased

"Louisville is a team that dozens of prospects mentioned when talking about the schools that stand out early in their recruitment. The Cardinals have done a great job making the Miami area a priority in recruiting, and by the overwhelming response from prospects it is paying dividends.

A few important names for Louisville fans to keep an eye on from the camp are linebacker MVP Gerral Blue Jr, OT Jordan Church and ATH Kenneth Kelly. All three were standouts on the day and have Louisville toward the top of their list." - Clint Cosgrove

Dave's Deliberation:

Today I spoke with a source who told me that Blue is scheduled for a three day visit. When? Well I forgot to ask that but I would assume this coming weekend, the one after that, or some time before the dead period. This will be his first visit and Louisville will be assessing his future role on the team when he comes and whether or not he has the frame to play here. "But Dave, he won linebacker MVP in the Miami camp!" you may be thinking. Cool, he won linebacker MVP in shorts and a t-shirt. Did he knock a pulling guard back in the hole and stuff a third and short a yard in the backfield? Nope. Anyway, from what I've been told Blue is kinda thin and he's only six-foot-one so I'm not sure he's a take nor do I know if Louisville has accurate measurements for him. Maybe he's a linebacker, maybe he's a strong safety. As we say back home, "Ionno." Once he visits I will let you know if he's a take or not, he very well might be but I haven't seen him in person so I'm going to have to rely on my sources.

Interior offensive lineman Jordan Church is a guy to watch but it seems like Louisville is giving a lot of these prospects deadlines to commit and he's been here three times on his own dime so I don't know what the hold up is. I don't know if he's torn between schools or if he's even a take right now. Anyway, I'm going to assume he's a take and he wants to do the official visit circuit before announcing. I reached out to him a few minutes ago. When he responds I'll update this thread.

Athlete Kenneth Kelly's status with Louisville is unknown at the moment. You're probably asking yourself, "what does this idiot mean by status?" In this context status means whether or not he's a "take." Now you're probably asking yourself, "What the hell is a take? He keeps saying take this and take that. The kid has a scholarship offer, of course they will take him!" If you asked those questions you're probably new around here so welcome to the community. We are all definitely very normal people who don't get emotionally invested in teenagers' decisions about where they will attend college. If you're not new around here and you read my stuff and you still don't understand what I'm talking about here is a remedial refresher:

Louisville offers a lot of prospects. In fact they've offered like 200 kids in the 2023 class. Currently, Louisville is expected to take 25 new scholarship football players this year, including transfers. Many of those 200 kids will go elsewhere but until they commit Louisville will hold a spot for a select few over other kids. So for each position on the field there is a board where prospects are ranked. So if 10 receiver prospects have offers but Louisville is only taking three receivers that cycle and the 10th ranked player on their board wants to commit he's going to be told to hold off on that for a minute. That means he's not a "take" at the moment because there are nine higher ranked options still available on the board. As those options commit elsewhere, the tenth ranked option's chances of being a "take" increase.

But Dave, if a school is only taking three receivers why would the staff offer 10 players scholarships?

Because, new subscriber, schools have to "show love" to these kids who have multiple scholarships or else they won't feel the "love" and they won't talk to or visit a school sans offer. So a blessed "scholarship" offer in 2022 is more like an offer to come to campus to get measured at Junior Day. If the measurements match the numbers being reported by the kid's school, hudl, milesplit, rivals account, or uncle L.V., then the player may move up the board, get an invite to camp, or even be informed that they can commit right away. Of course the top prospects in the country are getting committable offers but the unranked player without a profile headshot is most likely gonna have to come run a 40.

What I'm saying is, I don't know where Kelly is on that board, I actually don't even know what position board he's on right now. My guess would be he's being recruited to play safety, or some derivative thereof e.i., Card.

The title of the article was five teams that should be pleased and Louisville was ranked third. I think players down there speaking well of the Cards is definitely a plus, so sure, Louisville should be pleased. However, Clint left Sam Singleton out of the Louisville paragraph article and said he believes Tennessee is leading. For Louisville, Sam is definitely a take. In fact I would say he's the number one target on the running back board. Further it's unclear if any of those players mentioned in the Louisville report are takes. Louisville should be pleased but they could be more pleased is what I'm getting at here.
