Ricks back on the coaching market

RP emerges as the national focus on college hoops starts to reach it's peak.
Imagine that!
I am shocked.

Sadly we have turned out to be the villain in this. And we are clearly victims. I mean the players and fans didn’t want this.

Rick will walk away with zero consequences other than a 5 game suspension. That is complete BS!

Rick at yewcon or St John's is my guess. To the above poster....Rick's problem was he was new and bad at cheating. ALL good P5 programs bend the rules I.E. cheat. Recruiting and P5 basketball in general is a damn cesspool. It WON'T get fixed too much money involved.

The 5 game suspension was only for this year. He's free and clear for the 18/19 season.

I think he will end up on the east coast somewhere like UConn, St. John’s or even Pitt. I have nothing against CRPbut I am going to hate seeing him coaching somewhere else.

UConn will have to start Jim Calhoun on an antacid drip were they to hire RP. Old rivals could wind up burying the hatchet.
Don't see St. John's getting rid of Chris Mullin yet.

No way uconn hires RP at this point - they have too much history and would want someone younger, to have to look it pitino’s direction. I think that it will have to be a program that has been down for a while but, wants to win bad enough to take the pr hit. DePaul and St. John’s are the most likely candidates imo - both in big cities, both in the Big East, and both catholic universities. That checks a lot of boxes for both sides.

The crap Journal is now reporting that the recording that the FBI has that is supposed to be Rick Pitino isn't Rick Pitino. Of course this is after they reported that they had him on tape, a great newspaper to get your source from. So now is CRP as bad of a hire that you thought?

The courier article today is a jumbled mess that is click bait only. He isn't on tape. The only reason his name came up in the Bowen deal was because Dawkins was boasting he talked to Rick. I serious doubt Rick talked with someone he barely knew about paying a player $100K. I don't believe Rick was directly or will be directly linked to Bowen when it is all said and done. While the Bowen issue is a problem, the bigger issue is Fair is on tape discussing another player for 100K. That is a problem for any school moving forward. How do you trust him to hire good assistants? Plus the Powell scandal.

I will be shocked if a Power 5 school hires him in this kind a environment. That school will get roasted by the media.

Well so far all the other schools who were implicated haven't suffered any consequences from their actions. The sports channels don't even talk about them. I think CRP ends up with a good coaching job somewhere.

Why do you think the Media made Pitino to the poster child? He is a polarizing figure that isn't liked by the media. If he does get hired that school will be hammered by the media. On top of that he has had multiple issues that are as equally polarizing today and none of them shine a good light on Pitino.

I think the media made Rick the poster child because the idiots in charge at the university handled everything wrong. No other university has admitted any guilt or fired anybody so they don't have anything to report at this time. We keep admitting guilt and keep getting hammered.

The idiots in charge didn't have all this scrolling on the ESPN ticker the day it happened. ESPN didn't have Sean Miller or Bruce Pearl listed at all. All the national papers hammered Pitino. The only coach hammered was Pitino. Pitino was going to be the poster child for this no matter what the board did. FYI, the board had to fire Pitino.

The new school was have to decide if they want to put their university through that, I think the backlash will prevent a Power 5 school from hiring him until all this FBI/NCAA thing is done. He will be suspended again for the Fair issue.

Let's say Pitino had all this baggage when Crum left would you have supported bringing him to Louisville? I think the simple answer is no. We don't even want a former player back that has been coaching at a program that has been to multiple Final Fours because it is perceived he cheats.

Pitino to the NBA. Look for him to end up at Phoenix or Milwaukee.

Pitino was the poster child as you put it because he was fired. None of the other coaches named in the investigation were fired they are still employed at their current schools. So what does that say about your Power 5 schools wanting to stay clear from this.
sUcK now has 2 players being named in these inquiries but I don't see where they suspended players. The best way to handle this would have to deny it like everyone else.

None of those coaches had prior history with NCAA and the schools have no FBI data. I understand you don't like the board, but no board in the history of boards was keeping Pitino after the FBI thing came out. He was absolutely toxic at that point. We just became the 1st program to have a title vacated as that was being considered we have a assistant coach on tape breaking NCAA rules. Yeah, let's keep Pitino that is as about as smart as McGee's recruiting plan.

I never said let's keep Pitino, I said let's keep Jurich and minimize the damage. Now we have a 3 Ring circus making things worse by the day. I also think Pitino will get another job because he is a good coach. This moral argument you throw out there because they are a P5 program doesn't hold water. There are too many examples to prove that.

I don't see anyone touching him. Think about it....we've been discussing on this board how difficult it is going to be for Louisville to hire a coach in this environment with the FBI scandal hanging over the entire industry and not knowing who's involved or not. You really think a school is going to hire a coach that was fired because of the FBI scandal? A coach that was already on probation for one of the biggest and most, salacious and publicized scandals in CBB history? The first coach to have a championship banner stripped? A coach who banged a whore in a restaurant and tried to pay off only to be blackmailed by her?

I would like to think most programs will be looking to not taint their image in this day and age and I can't imagine any decent program will even consider hiring Rick or will want to even be connected to considering hiring Rick.

Hope Rick doesn't coach another meaningful game in his career. Good riddance.

I’m confused. You have several posts in this thread complaining that Pitino being fired made him the poster child of the FBI inquiry. And then you said in this last post that you are basically ok with Pitino being fired. And then you suddenly insert Jurich into this.

I am sorry you are confused because my post are not upset that CRP was fired. I am upset that the way things were HANDLED and I am upset by the firing of Jurich. I never said that Pitino was the poster child for the FBI that was the claim of other posters. Please try and keep up or at least read these threads before you post.

My bad...when you said “Pitino was the poster child as you put it because he was fired” it appeared that you agreed he was the poster child because he was fired

Folks HOF coaches like Rick are few and far now. For a lower tier P5 school or mid major to get a coach of Ricks stature even if he only has maybe 3-5 good years left is more than worth the gamble.

Uconn would be a good spot but Calhoun ain't gonna have that. Rhode Island i could see also Boston area where Riicks from and used too. he said at any level.

Rick won't coach in college probably ever again.

Look for him to be in the NBA next season.

The only way a school hires Pitino, is if Tom Jurich is the AD. And I don't see anyone beating Jurich's door down trying to hire him.

Not true.

About like the only way Fat Cal doesn't go to the NIT every other year is if the age rule doesn't change, but when it does ole man boobs will be in the retirement home.
