It can't be overstated, this weekend has the potential to serve as a seminal weekend for the Football Program. Looking back at our history I can remember few that pack the potential of this weekend, with the December visit weekend where Teddy Bridgewater had a number of future teammates on campus being the best example I could cite. Teddy's Pied Piper impact on his class out of South Florida has the same look as Clarkson's, but the value of Steve Clarkson strikes me as every bit as critical as it applies to recruits. He's like a de facto talent evaluator as much as a referral source. I would think as much as recommending a skill player to the staff--or any current teammate of Pierce--he could alert the staff on who NOT to recruit and the best part about that is it won't stop with this one class. He potentially serves as a source with an eye for talent in a talent rich area for years down the road. I've been following Louisville football closely for 40 years, and with a brief period where Schnellenberger would get some players out of St. Louis, Louisville has NEVER landed players West of the Mississippi with any volume. The template of Floridians and Georgians was entrenched with Schnellenberger; to see what we are potentially strong with what we are competing with for Texas and California preps is something completely unprecedented.
...this weekend looks setup to really get an O line together and what is interesting to me as we have a solid offensive line foundation but can sell some immediate impact playing time at guard with Chandler graduating as well as Trevor Reid and Adonis Boone from the two deep. Sanker by my estimate would be the highest rated offensive lineman we would have landed at Louisville; Burgess would fall into the Becton caliber as far as where he is currently ranked. Church and Pullido would be headliners in a number of previous recruiting classes of linemen. If we land those caliber of linemen this line class could rival the one that brought Chandler to campus along with Mekhi Becton and Cole Bentley. To get multiple offensive linemen who were multiple year starters and garned first team All-ACC slots isn't exactly common at Louisville. That I won't have to worry every year about depth on the O line is something I could really embrace.
