Pitt Panthers OC Resigns

Coming off quite an impressive year I assume he's heading somewhere.

Headed to Nebraska with Scott Frost. There apparently was a fallout between Pat Narduzzi and Mark Whipple when the administration and staff found out he was talking to Scott Frost about a job opportunity. It happens. Going to Nebraska is weird though especially with Frost having 4 straight losing seasons. I sense he will not be at Nebraska long if they have another sub 500 year.

Pitt is also going to be playing without its quarterback, he bypassing to prepare for the draft.

Bowl games have become meaningless except for the playoffs

So is RB Kenneth Walker from Michigan St. I don’t blame athletes that are projected 1st round draft picks for opting out. There’s millions at stake so I get it.

Look at it this way - you get to crack open a beer and watch your team play a football game over the holidays. While it's disappointing that the QB and RB aren't playing, think of how exciting it will be for Pitt fans if their freshman backup QB (I don't know if he's a freshman or not, just making a point) comes out and throws for 400 yards or something. Or the RB back-up runs over fools Michael Bush style. Personally I enjoy these game for what they are. In Louisville's case, I am looking forward to the "Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust Bowl" and rooting to end with a 7-6 record, Satterfield 2-0 in bowls as the Cardinal HC, and optimistic for next year.

The Louisville - Airforce game is going to be so old school they should play in leather helmets. Enjoy it!

Agreed. It's a chance to catch a glimpse of what's to come next year (albeit the term "glimpse" because it's not a make or break to the results on the field next year).

Nick Patti is the backup QB at Pitt. He's a redshirt Junior. He has shown flashes but in limited time playing. As far as Michigan State goes, I believe their back up running back is Elijah Collins, Junior Harold Joiner and Jordan Simmons. Simmons seems to be a nice back up (averages 4.7 yds per carry). It should still be a good matchup to watch.

I see nothing wrong with putting a clause in the “scholarship” that if you don’t play in ALL games your expected to, because you may hurt your chance for big bucks, you owe the cost of the 2-3-4-5 years of tuition room and board to the school.

If they’re “quitting” for “big bucks” they can pay for their audition.

Not sure why they would need to owe money back to the school. These schools and the NCAA make billions off of these athletes. A scholarship to the university is like losing $5 out of pocket. It's minuscule in comparison to what these schools make.

You don’t. I do.

I paid for my daughters college. For them to walk is a slap in the face to people paying their way. IMO anyway.

To me, a scholarship is a contract worth, depending on the schools(s), figures.

If they walk out, they break the contract.

Pay it back.

Besides, a 4 yr scholarship is minuscule to what these guys think they’re going to make. ;)

In addition to turning your back on the university, you also send a “it’s all about me” message to your “brothers” that are committed and playing in the bowl game.
As for paying back part of the scholarship, yes prorate it by games available and willing to participate excluding injuries.

I hear the government is going to give everyone free college education so none of this will matter.

Why stop there - just give everyone $100k/year and a house on the beach. Just fire up the printing press and have at it.

So, if you work for an organization, program, job, position, etc...and your organization makes billions off of your accomplishments, talents or deliverables, you should be responsible to pay them back? Nah, I disagree. If you had the opportunity to make millions of dollars by just signing your name and looking at this from a risk/reward perspective, you most certainly will take the low risk route to guarantee X amount of dollars.

I'm not a fan of someone reaping the wealth off of my talents while I get scraps from the table (e.g. - scholarships which are laughable to be honest).

We can agree to disagree.

I agree.

But……;)Just one more question.

If not for the scholarship afforded these athletes by “corps” making Billions…what is their future earning potential?
Guess it depends. If I understand the question properly, it goes back to the 1.6% of athletes that ever make the NFL (or become a future HOFer). Once athletes are done with college, it all depends on their field of study. If they don't have that career at the next level, should they be obligated to pay back a scholarship?

I'm still paying for my education (two degrees with only one paid off). It's essentially a moot point to me to be honest.

I think the genie is out of the bottle. The only thing that kept players from sitting out Bowl games all these years was the culture and fear of hurting their draft status by sitting out.

Now, the only barrier seems to be players staying in the Playoff. I think we'll eventually see top NFL prospects sit out the Playoff too.

The NFL is probably studying the G-League/NBA structure to determine if it's in their best interest to expand their product to a minor league/developmental league.

Right now it appears the NFL is saying, "We like our free farm system the NCAA is giving us" so they haven't gone through the pain of expanding their overhead.

This entire dynamic is no different than the real world really. The majority (the fans/peasants) suck it up while the oligarchs (owners & Institutions) count their $.

The SCOTUS ruled by law the players deserved their cut of the $. At first glance it felt like a bit of a surprising ruling, but maybe law just favors the players in this situation.

The collateral to the decision sticks it to the schools, who in some parts, are seen as the liberal enemy. Nothing changes for fans (peasants) though, they still gotta suck it up.

A gigantic boycott could possibly change the market, but not seeing that any time soon.

You guys can feel however you want, I prefer having guys that love playing the game no matter what. There’s insurance policies to help somewhat financially help them if they get injured. We live in a SOFT world now.

This is why I am starting to like women’s sport more than the men’s sports. They play for the love of the sport and they appreciate the opportunities they are given by the universities. They don’t whine like the men and their families about how they aren’t getting enough.
