Pitino Trying To Block Merle Code Book

Personally, I think Pitino knew about all of it including stripper gate too. Pitino is as shady as it gets. I'm not a troll. I love my Cardinals and hate what he did to my beloved team and school.

Nobody in their right mind would think Pitino knew Andre McGee was paying for stripper parties in the dorm rooms. He had a championship level team and was going to allow that to go on?

Now the Bowen thing is believable he was involved but one thing we all know for sure is all sorts of people use Pitino's name to write their books and gain attention to their causes.

Pitino will forever deny wrongdoing so his latest move doesn't surprise anyone.

The Bowen family and Pitino’s assistants would know if Rick was violating any NCAA rules as it relates to Brian’s recruitment to UL. Not sure that anyone other than those directly engaged could know.

Personally I think it’s ridiculous to think that Pitino knew about McGees late night stripper parties! I hate how it ended for Pitino and UofL just as much as the next guy. But, he led the Cardinals to 2 big east 1st place finishes, 3 big east conference tourney championships, 3 final fours, and a National Championship.

God bless Pitino I guess he is going to die on that hill. Tough sell when every coach knew the system. Code didn’t say Pitino asked for money but said he ask Adidas for help. Pitino is smart enough to know what help means in recruiting.

To the contrary; Pitino has no history of paying for players, and from all indications Bowen was "school shopping" long before UL was even a candidate for his services.

Adidas was looking for National exposure and what better outlet when Duke, Kansas and UK are filled up?

Grissom, Postel & Schnatter had an agenda that resulted in a "rush to judgement" .......they had no evidence to support firing Pitino. Folks around here need to get used to the truth; Pitino did not violate any NCAA rules and his tenure at Iona right now confirms there is no evidence of having paid Bowen or their family.

Since the story broke Bill Self signed a “lifetime contract“ extension since then which now pays 5.8 million per year. It also has a clause stating that any past or current investigation can not result in termination as of the signing of the contract

Clearly the two situations are not mutually exclusive. It is entirely possible if not probable that Pitino - while intentionally not knowing the specifics of the Bowen deal - wasn’t naive when it comes to shoe companies roles in steering kids to schools. During that time - the height of the OAD player - Pitino was mostly unsuccessful in attracting those players. For him to reach out to adidas for help - while staying out of the specifics for plausible deniability as he’d seen happen year after year with fat, sweaty cal - makes complete sense. And for adidas to want to help one of their two flagship collegiate programs - also makes complete sense.

Pitino’s gig at Iona doesn’t prove anything other than there are some mid-majors that will hire excellent coaches despite previous baggage - (see also Hugh freeze / Liberty & Bobby Petrino / WKU)

The three choads that you mentioned absolutely used the opportunity to fire him. I personally had a conversation with the president of one of Louisville’s signature companies - someone who calls grissom (the head choad) one of his mentors - 9 months before any of this occurred and he told me in that conversation that grissom “hated Pitino” and would absolutely find a way to get rid of him. That pizza faced scumbag schnatter, has held a grudge against Pitino for blackballing him at Old Memorial golf club in Florida a dozen years ago. postel was an untalented administrator who thought that by being grissom’s minion, he could get to be one of the club.

I don’t see any problem with Pitino trying to block this if he feels the story is fabricated to implicate him. The Crap Journal headlines it like Pitino is trying to cover things up. Once again why would a Cardinal fan buy this rag. If all Louisville fans would not buy it maybe we could get rid of this rag.

Let me pose a different viewpoint.

I do see a problem with Pitino trying to block this as, two of the founding principles of this country is freedom of speech and freedom of the press (see the First Amendment).

Pitino is clearly trying to cover something up. Perhaps it’s only his tacit indirect involvement in the Bowen situation - perhaps it’s his direct involvement - chances are, we’ll never know. Either way, it’s in his interest only - not yours or mine - that this story isn’t reported.

While I certainly am old enough to remember when newspapers were a staple of every day life and, when the C-J was worth the $.35 or $.50 that you had to pay for it - trying to eliminate the free press is what is done in autocratic countries.

Beyond that, only consuming media that aligns with your already formulated viewpoint (living in your echo chamber) is part of what’s killing this country.

It’s been years since I’ve read the uk urnial! It’s amazing the lengths a local paper will go to trash the local college athletics program, and a historically successful one at that

I really don’t think is trying to cover anything up but he is trying to protect his image/ego. Trying to stop the book is bringing more attention to the very thing he is trying to cover up. The majority of people don’t care. It didn’t even make the ESPN ticker. If he is really trying to cover it up then he isn’t very smart. This is 100% his ego at play.

History pretty much shows he didn’t get elite guys. He wasn’t playing the game. He just didn’t do his due diligence with the Bowen situation. He ignored all the red flags, probation and still took the kid. It really is unreal how this played out.

I guess I don’t see how the headline is anti-UofL. Pitino is out to save his own hide.

Pitino should have been fired when he laid Karen Sypher in his best friends restaurant. Probably the biggest mistake Jurich made in his career.

Not anymore, that’s for sure!
But they are still friends. Also, suggesting Jurich should have fired Pitino for the Sypher situation is just silly. He was and is a private citizen whose personal life is his own business. He didn’t violate the terms of his contract and, UofL would have had to pay his buyout.

I thought Jurich made a mistake however when he gave Pitino a raise and extension shortly after the Sypher situation. I don’t think he should’ve been fired for that, but as a very high profile figure representing the university having such a salacious negative tryst should’ve been met differently by the athletic administration at the time. I think it foreshadowed Jurich’s loyalty to a fault.

How did keeping Pitino work out for us?
