Very good coach for us for many years. Won and also lost us a natty, all while apparently going through a mid-life crisis.

He was at UK before we hired him, so I long ago lost the ability to be shocked or dismayed when he associates with or praises our archrival.

Don’t really care what he does, unless we need to try to beat his St John’s team on the court.

According to Adam Zagoria, former Louisville and Kentucky basketball coach Rick Pitino will attend the Vanderbilt-Kentucky football game on Saturday night. New Kentucky head coach Mark Pope also mentioned that Pitino plans to attend the Wildcats’ practice.
“He kind of asked me, but really he just told me he was coming to practice,” Pope said.
Earlier this year, Pitino also contributed to Kentucky football’s NIL initiative.

Not surprised by anything Ricky does. I guess the bbn apologized for those signs they made about JoAnn🤷

Pitino won a lot of basketball games while he was here. Final Fours, Championship. He also exercised bad judgement. Porcini's, hiring Andre McGee, "Coach-2".

I think ultimately it's a case of a guy who got too old to properly manage a big time college program. He's lucky he's getting an opportunity to redeem his reputation through winning - a grotesque cleansing but that's sports for you.

His narcissistic love bombing of UK fans is funny. Giving NIL to UK football is something that's technically legal, but morally suspect. That's Pitino's calling card.

The guy is and was a mixed bag. Good luck to him I guess.

For all the good he did the disaster that followed his actions and inactions was much worse. Wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire but then never think about him anymore unless someone on here brings him up.
I appreciated him while he was here but cannot say I ever loved him. We were there b4 him and will be there again w/o him.

It sounds like he needs to focus on HIS St. John’s team instead of THEIR uk team

We all knew Pitino was a UK homer when he was hired here. Most of us was shocked when Jurich announced he was seeking Pitino for the job. I wasn't that keen on the idea just because he had coached UK, but I knew UofL needed what he would bring after the end of the Crum era.

And he did exactly what we all wanted. We played a fast and fun style, and got back to elite 8's, final 4's and a national title. The program had pizazz again and I personally didn't care anymore that he coached at UK.

Everything was grand until Andre McGee. Before that dipshit, the program under Pitino had no NCAA infractions while programs all around the game did. However, as we again all know, Pitino, having just won his 2nd title and being selected for the Hall of Fame, he let his guard down and delegated and trusted in his former players a bit naively.

Most Cards fans I know believe what Luke Hancock says about the scandal, which is that those people on the team that knew of the parties, didn't want to bring the wrath of Pitino and jeopardize the teams championship chances. Everything in Pitino's past suggested he would never allow major infractions.

However, the sordid details of the parties and the media backlash was to forever change the perception of Pitino from not only fans but of his peers in the world of college basketball. He continued on coaching despite being double crossed by the people hired to mitigate any sanctions and he soon discovered he was going to be scrutinized for every little thing until eventually the FBI of all people, used his notoriety to push it's probe into college basketball malfeasance.

UofL, for whatever reason and there's several opinions, decided to rid both Pitino and Jurich despite knowing that Pitino was not one of the coaches the FBI had the goods on. And everything after that is what led Pitino to his disdain for the UofL basketball program today. He also probably was disappointed in the amount of Cards fans who voice their hatred of him.

So it's a natural thing for him to go back to being a UK homer, especially after Mark Pope was hired.

I believe Pitino one day hopes to be back in the Cards good graces, but if it doesn't happen, so be it. The fact is Louisville needed him more than he needed UofL, and I think we all have to admit had Jurich hired someone else, this stretch of okay to bad basketball would have started a lot sooner than it did.

Yeah however had it been any other coach that had the Karen situation they been fired. As Rick should have been let go . That's always going to be a debate as it was a moral issue not NCAA. But i'm pretty darn sure as with every university employee any infraction that brings embarrassment . Is a fireable offense.

I just never understood the angst with some Cards fans about Pitino's affair the very first year he was UofL's coach. His marriage issues predated his hiring at UofL. It wasn't like Pitino was some playboy messing around on his wife because he could.

And if he hadn't been extorted by the crazy woman no one would have ever known of his infidelity. He could have paid her and avoided the embarrassment, but he chose to do the right thing.

And the reality is Pitino wasn't just some University employee. He was hired to do a specific job that would make the school a lot of money and sustain the excellence of the men's basketball program. The circumstances of his behavior was relevant and his history of such behavior was non existent. Now had this happened 3 or 4 years into his tenure here, there may have been a different outcome.

Pitino messed around on his wife when he was at UK. It was an open secret. Much like Porky’s shenanigans with his wives, local media chose not to talk about it.

All I know is there was nothing I ever heard about Pitino's marriage in all the time I remember him coaching at a high level. He was a target by some for his cocky and narcissistic manner he would sometimes come off as, but as for being a serial adulter, I don't recall.

I'm sure there was quite a bit of "going on" with coaches all over the country. I don't remember anyone getting fired for that, but maybe I'm wrong.

He alone took down our program and ruined the career of Tom Jurich. Like I said before, he and Ky fans deserve each other. No slick Rick talk can ever make him welcome here ever again. He can choke on a King Kong Dong…
Let's place the blame where it truly belongs. Andre McGee took down the program, for something that is child's play compared to what programs like UK, Kansas and North Caroline routinely do.

I'm very conflicted tonight. I do support Rick Pitino but definitely hard seeing him in UK blue.

I'm 39 and I know this board trends older with mostly those in their 50s and 60s. Whether some of you all like it or not, no one in the fan base 45 and under remembers the glory days of Denny Crum. Being 39 I wasn't even born for the 1980 title or the 1983 team (that would've won the title if not for Houston most likely) and I was way too young to remember the 1986 title.

Whether some of you like it or not, the reality is no one 30 and under even remembers seeing Denny Crum coach UofL and no one 45 and under remember any type of glory years for Denny Crum. All we remember about Denny Crum was losing and being irrelevant. When I went to games late in the Denny Crum years as a kid, there were a few good memories, but it was mostly losing and sometimes getting run out of our own building. We were not relevant nationally.

What the older UofL fans needs to remember is that Rick Pitino was our Denny Crum. Under Denny Crum we were no longer an elite program. Rick Pitino made UofL relevant nationally. Rick Pitino didn't have to come to UofL, and let's be honest, in 2001 UofL needed Rick Pitino FAR FAR FAR more than Rick Pitino needed UofL.

Rick Pitino won UofL a National Championship. Screw the NCAA. I was there that night and nothing the NCAA says can take that away. Andre McGee was the one that screwed it up.

The way UofL (the university obviously, not the fans) treated Pitino and acted like his time here never happened, it was an insult to Pitino. And it was an insult to the younger fans who only remember Pitino. Honestly, while I hated what happened tonight, it was almost inevitable. If I was Pitino, I would basically disown UofL and do anything I could to trash the program. Pitino has taken more of a high road than I would've taken.

It hurts me to see Pitino back in UK Blue, for multiple reasons. Yes it feels like a betrayal. And yes it means most likely Pitino never steps foot in the KFC Yum Center again wearing UofL gear. It most likely destroys any chance of there being reconciliation between Pitino and UofL. But at the end of the day, it was going to happen.

Rick Pitino is in the rafters at UK. Is he at UofL? Enough said.

The actions by the UofL administration and board back in 2017 are the reasons tonight happened. When UofL fired him, ignored all the success he had brought to the program and all but disowned him (for actions not done by him), it was inevitable he would go back to UK. While the UK fans might have hated him (and I'm sure he hasn't forgotten it), UK itself never disowned him like UofL did.

Despite the amount of time that has passed, and having access to the actual facts related to the Minardi Hall scandal, there are still folks who continue to contend that Pitino was aware of the parties. I understand the hatred for the ensuing probation, but there was sufficient evidence that not only was Pitino unaware of what McGee was doing, there were several players (Luke Hancock, Steven Van Treese) who testified that they too were totally unaware of the parties. McGee was a sex addict using his position at UL to further indulge in prostitution with those he knew were inclined to participate along with him.

Was Pitino responsible for failing to monitor McGee? Absolutely, something he acknowledged responsibility for failing to do. As so many have responded with expressions of appreciation for the wins and the entertainment, I am one of those who enjoyed the UL-Pitino era.

Do I like Rick? No, and I am not the least bit surprised at his return to UK, and I find the term Camelot as nauseous. I hate UK, and all of the sanctimonious UK fans who practice idolatry in their support of a basketball program that has its roots deeply founded in racism, and cheating. The sooner the local media quit worshiping Pitino, the sooner we will not have to hear about him.

What a pathetic attention whore this guy is. There were definitely some fun years here with him at the helm but honestly, I’m so glad all the drama with this guy is gone. Also remember how he was Cal’s whipping boy and a control freak that constantly talked down to our fanbase.

Nothing wrong with him supporting his boy but drooling all over himself and talking about his beloved “Camelot” in the same place where he (and his family) were called every nasty thing in the book makes this Louisville fan wanna reach for a barf bag.

What does that even mean? I lived in Lexington in 2001-2004 when Rick took the job here and “disowned” doesn’t even come close to the insane vitriol that UK fans had towards him and Louisville. It was the only time I felt threatened there while wearing my UofL gear and after Pitino and the Cards walked into Rupp Arena in 2003 and upset UK, it was at a boiling point.

Just because he left Louisville and took a neutral job, softening the hate somewhat, doesn’t mean that those same people cheering him in blue yesterday, weren’t some of the worst people this side of WVU football fans. And by the way, UK fans never endured having him being extorted for banging a slut at a restaurant while getting ready to play a Sweet 16 game as the number 1 overall seed and didn’t have to watch him help take down the best Athletic Director in the country with all the crap that went down under his watch.

Louisville fans “disowning’ him? I guess some have (whatever that means) and the would have every right to do so.

I think the whole thing is kinda funny in a sad way both for Rick and the Uk fans.

What really got me was Pitino saying he would go on Matt Jones show after he made a career spitting the most vile vitriol imaginable about Pitino for years.

When UK fans acted angry for him coaching us, we thought it was ridiculous.

Now our fans are acting ridiculous for him putting on a UK shirt.

This rivalry sometimes just makes people act way too angry. I used to be way too into the rivalry, I’m not like that any more. It’s a game. It’s not like he’s working for Bin Laden or Putin, it’s sports. I love it, but having a family and marriage I just can’t have anger for him.

He’s my GOAT. I was here for the 2005 Final Four. I was there for the title in 2013 and so many other games. You won’t make me forget.

The games and memories happened. His hiring was so massive for our University and athletics dept. If he isn’t hired, we don’t become a clear top 5-10 job in the country. Just imagine if Denny hung on a few more years or we had hired Larry Eustachy? The donors that were brought on board and the energy brought into this community.

Also, has Rick Pitino been invited back by UofL since 2017? That’s my one question. Because if we haven’t invited him back and Kentucky did, then I mean there’s nothing really we can do about it.

It’s his life. If he wants to go to a place that called him all those things, it’s his life again. He’s old and wants to mend fences.

I’ll also point out the “WELL IM NOT MAD AND ILL SAY IT LOUDLY BUT IF I WAS A ST JOHNS FAN ID BE MAD!!!!” is coming from our fans. Let SJ’s fans worry about him, PK is our coach.

I mean Rick went to the biggest rival or his former school, he did that himself and took the risk of being hated by them. If the situation was reversed, we would’ve hated Denny had he went to coach Kentucky. So I respect that he came here and went right at that fan base knowing he’d be hated.

It’s time to move on. He’s old and at the end of his life. Let him and UK mend fences. And one day he’ll be back here and all of us around for those day will be there to cheer him on.

Full Pitino quote on Louisville: “It's sort of like Bob Knight in Indiana. I'll always treasure my players, I'll always treasure the fans, but all I wanted was an apology, and they never gave me that apology, just sorry for the way we did you in. That's all I've always said, Hey, maybe I deserved to be fired.

Coaches get fired, but it's the way they did it that was so bad. But there's a new administration, there's a new trustees, new and I wish them nothing but the best. And to the fans and my cherished players, I love you dearly.”

I dragged a couple of co-workers to bw3, was working in Lexington at the time, for the UK/UL game on '02. As literally the only card fan in a packed bar of redneck dumbasses, I listened to the gloating of what the were going to do to us and many comments about traitor Rick and what a POS he was for leaving and he was about to get what he deserved. We'll 30 minutes later it was like being in a tomb after Dean and Garcia lit them up. The absolute vitriol that following that loss that I heard you could compare to what it would be like if Hitlers wake was held in Jerusalem. I wanted to laugh at every one of them but not being a dumbass myself I just smirked and we went back to work. Greatest feeling I had in awhile as you could imagine...well that doesn't compare to the absolute devastation he wrought on this program. Involved or not his obvious lack of oversight brought about 7 years of turmoil, to put that mildly. He's an egotistical pos. And the fact he coaches at another school but appears he wants more attention from another fan base than he does the one he works for is just F'd up to see. Enjoy your GOAT memories. Some of us see something entirely different.
