I can copy and paste the story if anyone wants it. Source, this morning's Columbus Dispatch. Losses due to one less home football game and conference revenue sharing. Total AD budget was just shy of 300 million. I simply fail to understand this.

Yea I agree. But as Pervis noted if OSU cannot break even in this new "age" of collegiate sports; who da hell can?
Most colleges only get positive revenue from football and basketball and maybe a few from baseball or WBB at a place like So Car. All other men's and women's sport are an expense. They certainly are at Louisville. Inflation and corporate greed has driven up the cost of everything.
What’s not sustainable is an athletic department having a $300 million budget and then whining that they lost $40 million dollars because they had one less football game and had to share revenue with the other schools in their conference.
Good heavens. You’re telling me that you didn’t know that you were going to have one less football game or that you were going to have to share revenue years in advance? Hard to have any sympathy for anyone who cannot figure out how to cut your budget down to a paltry $260 million.
Ohio State is simply capitalizing on their national championship to announce something shocking and sensational, which will allow them to pass the hat around to fundraise. It’s a time honored strategy - one employed by no less than Tom Jurich in 2006, after the Cards’ first BCS bowl game appearance.
